AbstractThe structural, mechanical, electronic, dynamic, and optical properties of the ZrPdSn compound crystallising into the MgAgAs structure are investigated by the ab initio calculations based on the density functional theory. The lattice constant, bulk modulus, and first derivative of bulk modulus were obtained by fitting the calculated total energy-atomic volume results to the Murnaghan equation of state. These results were compared to the previous data. The band structure and corresponding density of states (DOS) were also calculated and discussed. The elastic properties were calculated by using the stress-strain method, which shows that the MgAgAs phase of this compound is mechanically stable. The presented phonon dispersion curves and one-phonon DOS confirms that this compound is dynamically stable. In addition, the heat capacity, entropy, and free energy of ZrPdSn were calculated by using the phonon frequencies. Finally, the optical properties, such as dielectric function, reflectivity function, extinction coefficient, refractive index, and energy loss spectrum, were obtained under different pressures.

In this paper we discuss possible mechanisms of PV annealing in Si. Our approach includes a combination of density functional theory and lattice kinetic Monte-Carlo (LKMC) simulations. The density functional theory is used to find the binding energies and jump barriers for P-V pair at different separations (from one to three interatomic bonds between complex constituents) and in different charge states. The mobility of the complex is simulated by LKMC with event probabilities calculated based on the energies from ab-initio calculations. .

The reflectivity, loss function, refractive index, extinction coefficient and dielectric function of the LaNi5and LaNi4.5Sn0.5intermetallic compounds are investigated through the plane-wave pseudo-potential method based on the density functional theory. The effects of Sn impurity are discussed and some interesting features are found in the low frequency region. Some important optical properties such as static dielectric constant and static refractive index are obtained. The equation [n (0)]2=ε1(0)is satisfied according to our calculation, which indicates that our results are correct and reasonable. Nevertheless, the calculated results need to be testified in the future due to the lack of experimental data.

The electronic structure and optical properties of Cu-doped SnS2with Sn-substituted content of 0, 12.5 and 37.5 at.% were successfully calculated by the first principles plane-wave pseudopotentials based on the density functional theory. It is found that the intermediate belts appear near the Fermi level and the energy band gap becomes narrower after the doping of the Cu atoms. The absorption peaks show a remarkable redshift and the absorption region broadens relatively after introducing acceptor impurity level. When Sn atoms of 37.5 at% were substituted by Cu, the optical absorption coefficient is significantly improved in the frequency range below 5.58 eV and over 8.13 eV.

Lanthanum orthovanadate (LaVO4) is the only stable monazite-type rare-earth orthovanadate. In the present paper the equation of state of LaVO4is studied usingin situhigh-pressure powder diffraction at room temperature, andab initiocalculations within the framework of the density functional theory. The parameters of a second-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state,i.e.those fitted to the experimental and theoretical data, are found to be in perfect agreement – in particular, the bulk moduli are almost identical, with values of 106 (1) and 105.8 (5) GPa, respectively. In agreement with recent reported experimental data, the compression is shown to be anisotropic. Its nature is comparable to that of some other monazite-type compounds. The softest compression direction is determined.

The structural and magnetic properties of Mn-based stoichiometric Heusler alloys have investigated by means of ab initio calculations in framework of the density functional theory. First principles electronic structure calculations have shown that Mn2NiZ (Z = Ga, In, Sn, Sb) alloys are ferrimagnets with antiparallel alignment between the Mn atoms. The martensitic transition can be realized in Mn2NiGa and Mn2NiSn alloys with tetragonal ratio of 1.27 and 1.16, respectively. Calculated properties are in a good agreement with available experimental data.
