This paper analyses the ways transfer of the discourse on interculturality and intercultural education, as it has been coined and shaped by European anthropologists and pedagogues, towards educational actors and institutions in Latin America. My ethnographic data illustrate how this intercultural discourse is currently transferred through intellectual networks to different kinds of Mexican actors who are actively “translating” this discourse into the post-indigenismo situation of “indigenous education” and ethnic claims making in Mexico. On the basis of fieldwork conducted in two different institutions in the state of Veracruz, the appropriation and re-interpretation of, as well as the resistance against, the European discourse of interculturality are studied by comparing the training of “intercultural and bilingual” teachers through the state educational authorities and the notion of intercultural education, as applied within the so-called “Intercultural University of Veracruz”.

Abstract This article presents reflections of indigenous teachers about the role of the school in a new Pataxó indigenous community settlement in the state of Minas Gerais. The data was collected in "narrative interviews" with teachers from this community who attended the first Intercultural Education for Indigenous Educators (FIEI) course offered by the Federal University at Minas Gerais. In these narratives, both the indigenous school and FIEI are seen as a collective project of and for the community. The school occupies a central position in the articulation between traditional ways of producing knowledge and the formulation of projects for the future.

This longitudinal qualitative study was conducted with Kosovo PhD students over a 3-year period who engaged in an ongoing intercultural education project at the University of Pristina’s Faculty of Education in Kosovo. The purpose of this article is to deepen the understanding of intercultural education with Kosovo as a critical case study. The data included pre-and post-open-ended surveys, one on one interviews, and follow up interviews regarding intercultural education during the longitudinal experiences. The findings of the study suggest the need to contextualize the issues of intercultural education and integrate local to global connections in relevant teaching, research, and service.
