This paper discusses principles for the design of natural language processing (NLP) systems to automatically extract data from doctor's notes, laboratory results and other medical documents in free-form text. We argue that rather than searching for "atom units of meaning" in the text and then trying to generalize them into a broader set of documents through increasingly complicated system of rules, an NLP practitioner should take concepts as a whole and as a meaningful unit of text. This simplifies the rules and makes NLP system easier to maintain and adapt. The departure point is purely practical; however, a deeper investigation of typical problems with the implementation of such systems leads us to a discussion of broader linguistic theories underlying the NLP practices, such as metaphors theories and models of human communication.

A container terminal is a complicated system made up of several components in interdependence. Several materials handle possible to move containers at the port to better meet the needs of ships awaiting loading or unloading. In order to effectively manage this area, it is necessary to know the location of each container. Containers search times can be considerable and lead to delays that cause financial penalties for terminal management operators. In this chapter, the authors propose an approach to solve the problem of placement of containers through the description of a model that optimizes available storage space to handle the distance travelled between the containers and the storage locations in a seaport. In other words, a model that minimizes the total number of unnecessary movement while respecting the constraints of space and time. This work develops a software tool enabling identification of the best location of a container using the methodological resolution Branch and Bound.

It is very difficult to find out the best solution for some complicated system problems frequently appear. These problems are mostly of multi-objective. The present solution, however, is short of communication. Based on CO, one of MDO method, this paper gives a new simple kind of multi-objective framework, which will be suitable to multi-subject problems. It can not only organize each disciplinary effectively, but gives the inter-influence between disciplinaries by fitness function as well. Meanwhile, the perfect NSGAⅡ is used as be the basic algorithm, prematurity can be avoided and Pareto front with good distribution is obtained. Micro machined accelerometer example validates the correctness of the framework.

As the intellectual economy’s growing up, knowledge management becomes the main attraction to people gradually. Knowledge management is a kind of complicated system network, as an intensive professional knowledge service tissue---it’s profound nowadays for universities carry out knowledge management. Currently the core of knowledge management in Chinese universities is intensive knowledge management. For time is still short since knowledge management started to be carried out, so there’s no organized, completed theory about universities’ intensive knowledge management. This article mainly discusses the of college intensive knowledge management essentials, analyzes the problems existing on the whole management process and provide some strategies on it.

Disaster arrival in a queuing system with negative arrivals causes all customers to leave the system instantaneously. Here we obtain a queue-length and virtual waiting (sojourn) time distribution for the more complicated system BMAP/SM/1 with MAP input of disasters.

The advantages of global sensitivity equation (GSE) method are firstly pointed out, with which an improved multiple discipline feasible (MDF) strategy based on GSE, denoted as MDF-GSE, is developed. In MDF-GSE strategy, the sensitivity of complicated coupled system is calculated using GSE in a parallel manner, which makes MDF-GSE more efficiency when optimizing complicated coupled system compared with the original MDF strategy. Additionally, the preferable performance in convergence and robustness of MDF is also inherited in MDF-GSE. A conceptual optimization of a training airplane is executed using both MDF and MDF-GSE. The results of quantificational comparison demonstrate that computational efficiency is improved dramatically by using MDF-GSE, which makes required computation cost decreased by about 86%. The optimization time, furthermore, ulteriorly reduced due to the quasi-parallel capability of MDF-GSE. It is indicated that the MDF-GSE strategy can enhance the optimization efficiency for the complicated coupled systems.
