Abstract A free falling experiment was conducted as a simulation of a thermal spray process. A flattening behavior of the freely fallen metal droplet impinged onto a flat substrate surface was fundamentally investigated. The substrates were kept at various designated temperatures, and the substrates coated with gold by PVD were also prepared in order to investigate the effect of a wetting at the splat/substrate interface on the flattening behavior of the droplet. A falling atmosphere was atmospheric pressure nitrogen to prevent the oxidation of the melted droplet, and the experiments under low-pressure condition were also conducted. A transition of the splat morphology was recognized in atmospheric pressure nitrogen experiments, that is, the splat morphology on a room temperature substrate was a splash type, whereas that on a high temperature substrate was a disk type. The cross-section microstructure of the splat obtained on the room temperature substrate was an isotropic coarse grain, whereas that on the high temperature substrate was a fine columnar. The grain size changed transitionally with increasing the substrate temperature. Transition temperature on the gold-coated substrate was higher than that on the substrate without coating. The cross-section microstructure of the splat obtained under low-pressure was a fine columnar even on the room temperature substrate. The results indicate that the metal droplet wets better under low-pressure condition than in atmospheric pressure nitrogen condition, and the wetting has a significant role in the flattening of the droplet.

A tertiary amine (N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine, CyNMe2) was used as a switchable hydrophilicity solvent (SHS) for extracting phospholipids (PLs) from raw cream (RC), buttermilk (BM), concentrated buttermilk (CBM), and beta-serum (BS). The SHS extractions were performed with varying solvent–sample weight ratio at room temperature. The extracted PLs using CyNMe2 were recovered by bubbling CO2 at atmospheric pressure, switching the CyNMe2 into its respective salt. For comparison, the PLs were also extracted using Folch (FE) and Mojonnier (ME) extraction. The extraction efficiency of SHS varied from 0.33% to 99%, depending on the type of byproduct. The SHS extracted up to 99% of the PLs directly from BM, while only 11.37% ± 0.57% and 2.66% ± 0.56% of the PLs were extracted with FE and ME, respectively. These results demonstrate the applicability of SHS for the extraction of PLs from dairy byproducts.

AbstractThe contemporary search for new catalysts for olefin oligomerization and polymerization is based on the study of coordinating compounds and/or organometallic compounds as post-metallocene catalysts. However known catalysts are suffered by many flaws, among others unsatisfactory activity, requirement of high pressure or instability at high temperatures. In this paper, we present a new catalyst i.e. the crystalline complex compound possesing high catalytic activity in the oligomerization of olefins, such as 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol and ethylene under very mild conditions (room temperature, 0.12 bar for ethylene oligomerization, atmospheric pressure for 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol oligomerization). New material—Cat-CrNP ([nitrilotriacetato-1,10-phenanthroline]chromium(III) tetrahydrate) has been obtained as crystalline form of the nitrilotriacetate complex compound of chromium(III) with 1,10-phenanthroline and characterized in terms of its crystal structure by the XRD method and by multi-analytical investigations towards its physicochemical propeties The yield of catalytic oligomerization over Cat-CrNP reached to 213.92 g · mmol−1 · h−1· bar−1 and 3232 g · mmol−1 · h−1 · bar−1 for the 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol and ethylene, respectively. Furthemore, the synthesis of Cat-CrNP is cheap, easy to perform and solvents used during preparation are environmentally friendly.

This paper describes a novel apparatus for measuring dynamic bulk compliance B*(ω) of time-dependant materials. System can measure dynamic bulk compliance at room temperature, at pressures up to 100 ± 1,5 bar and frequencies from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz. Functionality of the apparatus is demonstrated by performing measurements of dynamic bulk compliance for two different materials, i.e., polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Measurements were conducted at room temperature, atmospheric pressure and frequencies from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz.
