Due to its to its optical, thermal, photocatalytic and electrophysical properties, nanocrystalline titanium oxide (TiO2) is widely used in various fields. In the present work, a series of pure and Gd-modified (0.5, 5, 50 mol%) TiO2 nanocrystalline powders were prepared by a novel synthesis approach – extraction-pyrolytic method (EPM). Metal containing extracts on the basis of valeric acid were used as precursors. Thermal behavior of produced individual and mixed precursors were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and high temperature differential scanning colometry (HDSC). Phase composition of pure and Gd-modified TiO2 powders were studied as a function of pyrolysis temperature (450o -850°C ) and gadolinium content by X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. Photocatalytic activity of produced powders was studied by photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV/VIS light irradiation.

AbstractThe contemporary search for new catalysts for olefin oligomerization and polymerization is based on the study of coordinating compounds and/or organometallic compounds as post-metallocene catalysts. However known catalysts are suffered by many flaws, among others unsatisfactory activity, requirement of high pressure or instability at high temperatures. In this paper, we present a new catalyst i.e. the crystalline complex compound possesing high catalytic activity in the oligomerization of olefins, such as 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol and ethylene under very mild conditions (room temperature, 0.12 bar for ethylene oligomerization, atmospheric pressure for 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol oligomerization). New material—Cat-CrNP ([nitrilotriacetato-1,10-phenanthroline]chromium(III) tetrahydrate) has been obtained as crystalline form of the nitrilotriacetate complex compound of chromium(III) with 1,10-phenanthroline and characterized in terms of its crystal structure by the XRD method and by multi-analytical investigations towards its physicochemical propeties The yield of catalytic oligomerization over Cat-CrNP reached to 213.92 g · mmol−1 · h−1· bar−1 and 3232 g · mmol−1 · h−1 · bar−1 for the 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol and ethylene, respectively. Furthemore, the synthesis of Cat-CrNP is cheap, easy to perform and solvents used during preparation are environmentally friendly.

The thermodynamic properties of manganese tellurides were determined using an electromotive force (EMF) method with a liquid electrolyte in a temperature range from 300 to 450 K. EMF measurements were performed using equilibrium samples taken from the two-phase regions, namely MnTe2 + Te and MnTe + MnTe2, of the Mn–Te system. The phase compositions of all samples were controlled with the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. The partial molar functions of manganese in alloys, as well as the standard thermodynamic functions of the formation and standard entropies of MnTe and MnTe2, were calculated. A comparative analysis of obtained results with literature data is performed

Borotellurite glass had been widely applied in the field of optical communications and devices. In this work, holmium oxides doped borotellurite glass had been successfully fabricated via conventional melt-quenched technique. The structural properties of holmium doped tellurite glass were found using x-ray diffraction (XRD) method. The nonexistence of sharp peaks in XRD pattern shows that the inclusion of holmium tellurite glass leads to the formation long range of disorderness. The optical properties of the glass system such as refractive index and optical band gap energy are investigated using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The value of refractive index is found in nonlinear trend along with holmium oxides concentration. It is found that the refractive index is more than 2 at 0.01, 0.03 and 0.04 of holmium concentrations. The optical band gap energy was found in similar trend with refractive index which is in nonlinear pattern.

Three isomers of (trifluoromethoxy)phenylboronic acids were studied in the context of their physicochemical, structural, antimicrobial and spectroscopic properties. They were characterized by 1H, 13C, 11B and 19F NMR spectroscopy. The acidity of all the isomers was evaluated by both spectrophotometric and potentiometric titrations. The introduction of the -OCF3 group influences the acidity, depending, however, on the position of a substituent, with the ortho isomer being the least acidic. Molecular and crystal structures of ortho and para isomers were determined by the single crystal XRD method. Hydrogen bonded dimers are the basic structural motives of the investigated molecules in the solid state. In the case of the ortho isomer, intramolecular hydrogen bond with the -OCF3 group is additionally formed, weaker, however, than that in the analogous -OCH3 derivative, which has been determined by both X-Ray measurements as well as theoretical DFT calculations. Docking studies showed possible interactions of the investigated compounds with LeuRS of Escherichia coli. Finally, the antibacterial potency of studied boronic acids in vitro were evaluated against Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus.

By the method of XRD and high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), the features of the structure of partially metamict zircons from Yastrubtsi ore occurrence of the Ukrainian Shield were studied. Samples 1 and 2 (depths 627 and 1069 m) belong to middle metamict zircons, and sample 3 (depth 1302.5 m) — to weak metamict zircons. The purpose of this work was to elucidate the features of the structure of partially metamictic zircons from Yastrubtsi ore occurrence of the Ukrainian Shield and the features of their recrystallization. The XRD method showed the presence of diffuse diffraction bands, which indicates the presence of an amorphous phase. For sample 3, these bands are less pronounced. After heating at T = 1100°C, these bands significantly decrease. Based on the XRD data, the degree of crystallinity and unit cell parameters of the samples were calculated. To obtain information on the local structure of the samples, spectra were obtained for the initial and annealed samples. It was shown by MAS NMR that there are regions in the initial structure in which [SiO4] tetrahedra are interconnected. These regions are designated Qn (n is the number of bridging oxygen atoms per Si atom). It has been established that the silica phase is practically absent in the zircon samples. In such samples, mainly Q1-2 and Q3 polymerization of silicon atoms occurs (for sample 3, only Q1-2 polymerization is characteristic). The MAS NMR results are in good agreement with the XRD data.
