First report of Squash Vine Borer, Melittia cucurbitae (Harris, 1828) (Lepidoptera, Sessidae) in Brazil and South America: distribution extension and geographic distribution map

Melittia cucurbitae (Harris, 1828) is a very important pest of squash and pumpkins. To date, this lepidopteran had its distribution reported for eastern United States, southeastern Canada, and Mexico. Our study reports for the first time the occurrence of squash vine borer, M. cucurbitae for South America, being the first record to Brazil, in southwest region of Pará state.

As a part of ecologic studies conducted in wetlands of Patagonia, Argentina, and in the frame of taxonomic studies within Chenopodiaceae for South America, we collected specimens of Suaeda that did not match the features to any of the species currently known to the Flora of Argentina. The aim of this contribution is to report for the first time the presence of Suaeda paradoxa in Argentina, by the means of the study of living plants and herbarium material, original descriptions, type material, and complementing with a distribution map, photos, a diagnostic key, and a comparative table to the herbaceous species of Suaeda in Argentina. Also, some comments regarding ecological and distributional features are discussed. This is the first record of S. paradoxa outside its native distribution range.

The genus Diplotaxis Kirby, 1837 is composed of around 200 species reported from Canada to Panama. The species are most abundantly found in Mexico and the United States. This study reports for the first time the presence of Diplotaxis poropyge Bates, 1887 in Colombia. The individuals are from the departments of Atlántico and Bolívar in the Caribbean region of the country. With this discovery, we update the distribution of the genus to include South America.

The family Tischeriidae is recorded from Madagascar for the first time. Coptotriche alavelona Lees and Stonis, sp. n., is described from high elevation tropical moist forest of Madagascar, and its proposed generic placement discussed. DNA of this species has been extracted and conserved for future phylogenetic or barcoding studies. The external features and male genitalia are figured and described. An updated checklist and a distribution map for all 13 Tischeriidae species currently recorded from the Afrotropics are provided.

The Palearctic wool carder bee Anthidium manicatum (Linnaeus) is recorded for the first time in Chile based on eight specimens collected on Lavandula sp. (Lamiaceae) in San Bernardo, Metropolitan Region. This new record expands the invasive range of this species in South America, confirming previous predictions based on an ecological niche model.

Ganoderma is a cosmopolitan genus of fungi with species distributed in temperate and tropical regions. Species of Ganoderma in living Leguminosae were observed in Park de la Salud in Pance, Cali, Colombia and we record G. multiplicatum for the first time from Colombia. A distribution map of this genus in the Neotropical region is presented.

Cenopalpus officinalis Papaioannou-Souliotis, 1986 (Trombidiformes: Tetranychoidea: Tenuipalpidae) is reported for the first time from Israel, Italy and Mexico. Previously, this flat mite species was only known to occur in Greece and is the first species belonging to the genus Cenopalpus recorded from Mexico. Adult females and males, deutonymphs and eggs, collected in Italy and Israel as well as the material intercepted from Italy and Mexico at United States ports of entry were studied, illustrated and analyzed.
