The myxomycete genus Colloderma and the species Colloderma oculatum are reported for the first time in Central America. The species was recorded in the high elevations of the Talamanca Mountain Range in Costa Rica during 2014 in a location where the structure of myxomycete assemblages has been historically associated with temperate rather than tropical communities. Comments on the geographical distribution and ecology of the species are included. This record has increased the number of Costa Rican myxomycetes to 213 according to the most updated checklist.

Two new species of Taraxippus Moxey, 1971 are described and illustrated: T. samaraesp. nov. from Costa Rica and Panama and T. perezgelabertisp. nov. from the Dominican Republic. Both sexes and the previously unknown eggs are described. The genus is recorded from Central America for the first time. A distribution map and a discussion of the distributional pattern of Taraxippus are provided.

A taxonomic revision of the genus Scolia Fabricius, 1775 (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae) from Central America is presented. Two species of Scolia are present in Central America: S. (Discolia) guttata Burmeister, 1853 and S. (Hesperoscolia) rufiventris Fabricius, 1804, the latter representing the first record for Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia. The male of S. rufiventris is described and illustrated for the first time. Seasonal flight activity for S. guttata from two years of continuous Malaise trapping in Barro Colorado Island, Panama, is described.

The final nymphal stages for seven species of Anacroneuria Klapálek from Costa Rica are described for the first time based upon reared specimens: A. benedettoi Stark, 1998, A. divisa (Navás, 1924), A. holzenthali Stark, 1998, A. lineata (Navás, 1924), A. marca Stark, 1998, A. perplexa Stark, 1998 and A. varilla Stark, 1998. Illustrations are provided for all important morphological characters and distinguishing characters are discussed. Distribution maps for each species are provided and remarks on the ecology are included. Finally, an additional genus is recorded for Central America for the first time, from two nymphs collected from the Central Valley in Costa Rica, possibly belonging to the genus Perlesta.

The highfin goby Gobionelus oceanicus is herein reported for the first time in freshwaters of Costa Rica. One specimen was collected in the lower Pacuare River basin, Atlantic slope, Costa Rica. This new record brings the total number of Costa Rican native freshwater fish species to 253.

The corticioid basidiomycete Jaapia ochroleuca (Bres.) Nannf. et J. Erikss. is recorded for the first time in the European Russia from the «Bryansky Les» Nature Reserve (Bryansk Region). The taxonomic position of the species is defined briefly. Its morphological description and data on distribution and ecology are provided. The details of microscopic structure of the collected specimen are illustrated.

AbstractThe lichen genus Lecanactis Körb. in Tasmania comprises six species: L. abietina (Ach.) Körb., which is widespread and pan-temperate; L. latispora Egea & Torrente and L. neozelandica Egea & Torrente, both shared with New Zealand and with the former recorded here from the Auckland Islands for the first time; L. mollis (Stirt.) Frisch & Ertz, shared with Victoria and New Zealand; L. aff. dilleniana (Ach.) Körb., a European species recorded provisionally for Tasmania on the basis of several sterile collections; L. scopulicola Kantvilas, which is described here as new to science and apparently a Tasmanian endemic. This new taxon occurs in rocky underhangs and is characterized by a thick, leprose thallus containing schizopeltic acid, and 3-septate ascospores, 19–30 × 4.5–6 μm. Short descriptions and a discussion of distribution and ecology are given for all species. A key for all 11 Australian species of the genus is provided, including L. subfarinosa (C. Knight) Hellb. and L. tibelliana Egea & Torrente, which are recorded for Australia for the first time, and L. platygraphoides (Müll.Arg.) Zahlbr., a first record for New South Wales. Lecanactis spermatospora Egea & Torrente and L. sulphurea Egea & Torrente are also included.

A new genus of lichenized fungi of the family Porinaceae is described, known from Costa Rica and Brazil. Flabelloporina Sobreira, M. Cáceres & Lücking is a thus far monospecific genus with an isolated position of its only species in the family, morphologically different from all other genera in Porinaceae. The genus is characterized by the production of numerous, flabelliform squamules on the surface of the thallus, together with black perithecia and transversally septate ascospores (with three septa in the only species). The new combination Flabelloporina squamulifera (Breuss, Lücking & Navarro) Sobreira, M. Cáceres & Lücking is proposed, based on Porina squamulifera Breuss, Lücking & Navarro, and the species is for the first time reported from Brazil.

We present the first record of the Clay-colored Sparrow (Spizella pallida) in Costa Rica. An adult bird was recorded ca. 900 Km south of its common wintering range. This represents the first record of the species for the country and for southern Central America.
