AbstractOne of the parameters that limit the efficiency of a thin film solar cell, especially the a-Si and the nc-Si solar cell is the cell thickness. Although thicker film can absorb most of the sun light, the optical generated carriers will recombination through the numerous gap states in the film that obtained lower short circuit current and fill factor. In the controversy, thinner film could not absorb enough sun light that also limit the short circuit current. In this works, we utilize nanowire structure to solve the conflict between the light absorption and the carrier transport. The designed structure has ZnO:Al nanowire array on the substrate. The p-i-n a-Si solar cell structure is grown along the surface of each ZnO: Al nanowire sequentially. Under sunlight illumination, the light is absorbed in the axis direction of the nanowire. However, the carrier transport is along the radial direction of the solar cell. Therefore, the long nanowire could absorb most of the solar light. In the mean time, the thickness of the solar cell still is thin enough for photo-generated carrier transport. The dependence of short circuit current, open circuit voltage and fill factor to the length, diameter and density of ZnO:Al nanowires were simulated.

The solar cells have been used as most promising device to convert light energy into electrical energy. In this paper authors have attempted to fabricate Photoelectrochemical solar cell with semiconductor electrode using TMDCs. The Photoelectrochemical solar cells are the solar cells which convert the solar energy into electrical energy. The photoelectrochemical cells are clean and inexhaustible sources of energy. The photoelectrochemical solar cells are fabricated using WSe2crystal and electrolyte solution of 0.025M I2, 0.5M NaI, 0.5M Na2SO4. Here the WSe2crystals were grown by direct vapour transport technique. In our investigations the solar cell parameters like short circuit current (Isc) and Open circuit voltage (Voc) were measured and from that Fill factor (F.F.) and photoconversion efficiency (η) are investigated. The results obtained shows that the value of efficiency and fill factor of solar cell varies with the illumination intensities.

Cut solar cells have received considerable attention recently as they can reduce electrical output degradation when the c-Si solar cells (crystalline-silicon solar cells) are shaded. Cut c-Si solar cells have a lower short-circuit current than normal solar cells and the decrease in short-circuit currents is similar to the shading effect of c-Si solar cells. However, the results of this study’s experiment show that the shadow effect of a c-Si solar cell reduces the V o c (open circuit voltage) in the c-Si solar cell but the V o c does not change when the c-Si solar cell is cut because the amount of incident light does not change. In this paper, the limitations of the electrical power analysis of the cut solar cells were identified when only photo current was considered and the analysis of the electric output of the cut c-Si solar cells was interpreted with a method different from that used in previous analyses. Electrical output was measured when the shaded and cut rates of c-Si solar cells were increased from 0% to 25, 50 and 75%, and a new theoretical model was compared with the experimental results using MATLAB.

n-ZnO thin films doped In with 2 atm.% were deposited on p-type silicon wafer with textured surface by Ion Beam Enhanced Deposition method, after annealing and prepared front and back electrodes, the n-ZnO/p-Si heterojunction samples were fabricated. The photoelectric property of the sample were measured and compared with silicon solar cell. The result indicated the saturated photocurrent of n-ZnO/p-Si heterojunction was 20% greater than one of the Si solar cell. It means the ZnO/Si heterojunction has a higher ability of produce photoelectron then one of silicon solarcell. The result of the photovoltaic test of n-ZnO/p-Si heterojunction show The open circuit voltage and short-circuit current of the n-ZnO/p-Si heterojunction was 400mV and 5.5mA/cm2 respectively. It was much smaller than the one of silicon solar cells. The reason was discussed

ABSTRACTWe made an amorphous-silicon (a-Si) solar cell with a nanowire-array structure on stainless steel(SS) by plasma enhanced chemical vapor (PECVD) deposition. This nanowire structure has an n-type Si nanowire array in which a-Si intrinsic layer and p type layer are sequentially grown on the surface of the nanowire. The highest open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current density (Jsc) for AM 1.5 illumination were 620 mV and 13.4 mA/cm2, respectively at a maximum power conversion efficiency of 3.57%.

Phosphorus-doped amorphous carbon (n-C:P) films were grown by r. f.-power-assisted plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition at room temperature using a novel solid red phosphorus target. The influence of phosphorus doping on material properties of n-C:P based on the results of simultaneous characterization are reported. Moreover, the solar cell properties such as series resistance, short circuit current density, open circuit current voltage, fill factor and conversion efficiency along with the spectral response are reported for the fabricated carbon-based n-C:P/p-Si heterojunction solar cell that was measured by standard measurement technique. The cells performances have been given in the dark I–V rectifying curve and I–V working curve under illumination when exposed to AM 1.5 illumination condition (100 mW/cm 2, 25°C). The maximum of open-circuit voltage (V oc ) and short-circuit current density (J sc ) for the cells are observed to be approximately 236 V and 7.34, mAcm 2 respectively for the n-C:P/p-Si cell grown at lower r. f. power of 100 W. The highest energy conversion efficiency (η) and fill factor (FF) were found to be approximately 0.84% and 49%, respectively. We have observed that the rectifying nature of the heterojunction structures is due to the nature of n-C:P films.

Among various photovoltaic devices, the poly 3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene:poly styrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) and silicon nanowire (SiNW)-based hybrid solar cell is getting momentum for the next generation solar cell. Although, the power-conversion efficiency of the PEDOT:PSS–SiNW hybrid solar cell has already been reported above 13% by many researchers, it is still at a primitive stage and requires comprehensive research and developments. When SiNWs interact with conjugate polymer PEDOT:PSS, the various aspects of SiNW array are required to optimize for high efficiency hybrid solar cell. Therefore, the designing of silicon nanowire (SiNW) array is a crucial aspect for an efficient PEDOT:PSS–SiNW hybrid solar cell, where PEDOT:PSS plays a role as a conductor with an transparent optical window just-like as metal-semiconductor Schottky solar cell. This short review mainly focuses on the current research trends for the general, electrical, optical and photovoltaic design issues associated with SiNW array for PEDOT:PSS–SiNW hybrid solar cells. The foremost features including the morphology, surface traps, doping of SiNW, which limit the efficiency of the PEDOT:PSS–SiNW hybrid solar cell, will be addressed and reviewed. Finally, the SiNW design issues for boosting up the fill-factor, short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage will be highlighted and discussed.

A series of copolymers P(VP-HEMA) composed of hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and 4-vinyl pyridine (VP) were prepared by a solution copolymerization technique. Based on the copolymer P(VP-HEMA) prepared by the content of VP 50%, the amount of AIBN 3% and the optimized liquid electrolyte, a polymer solution electrolyte with concentration of 9.0% was formed. By addition of 1,4-dibromobutane into the solution, the copolymer gel electrolyte with higher conductivity 6.14mS/cm was prepared. Gelation is caused by the quaterisation between the group of pyridine in P(HEMA-VP) and 1,4-dibromobutane. Based on the copolymer gel electrolyte, a dye-sensitized solar cell was fabricated with short-circuit current of 13.62mA/cm2,open circuit voltage of 0.72V, fill factor of 0.5465 and an overall conversion efficiency of 5.24% under irradiation 100mW/cm2(AM1.5).

AbstractCdS and PbS are well known semiconductor materials. Starting in 1969 and into 1970's CdS-PbS cells were reported with open circuit voltage (Voc) up to 450 mV and short circuit current density (Jsc) < 1 mA/cm2. However, further reports are scarce. These two materials are also the most investigated by chemical deposition technique. In this work we revisit this type of photovoltaic junctions and present the photovoltaic behavior of distinct type of cell structures prepared by chemical deposition: glass/CdS/PbS/Ag, SnO2:F/CdS/PbS/Ag, and SnO2:F/CdS/(Bi2S3 or/and CdSe)/PbS/Ag. Depending on the cell type, Voc of > 500 mV or Jsc of > 3 mA/cm2 could be obtained under illumination of 1-3 kW/m2. This work opens up possibilities for developing simple solar cell structures by sequential chemical deposition of semiconductors.
