This paper explores engineering student’s readiness towards e-learning in Telkom University Bandung that developed e-learning system to complement its method. Some studies had indicated predictor behaviors for effective e-learning process were self-directed learning, technical readiness and comfort with non-face to face communication (Warner et al , 1998; Piskurich, 2003; Smith, 2005; Hung et al., 2010). Data gathered from 388 Telkom University engineering students (57% from sophomore year and 43% from junior year). Self-assessment method had been used to predict student readiness toward e-learning. Research found that Telkom University engineering student’s level of readiness was on ready with development, with technical readiness factor as the highest level and self-directed learning readiness as the lowest. The level of grade had no statistical differences on self-directed learning readiness and technical readiness factor but it had on comfort with non-face to face communication.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the learning process from face-to-face to online learning. Therefore, universities are forced to prepare their learning management system’s infrastructure quickly. Students and lecturers’ readiness for e-learning are also crucial. This study aims to investigate lecturers and students’ readiness for online learning during this pandemic. Furthermore, lecturers and students’perception about the constraints and advantages of online learning were also explored in this study. Respondents in this study were 1036 students and 354 lecturers from various universities in Indonesia. Students’ readiness for online learning was measured by the Online Learning Readiness Survey/OLRS and the results showed that students in this study were ready because they had a high score of self-efficacy in technology and high learning motivation during the pandemic. Meanwhile, lecturers' readiness was measured by Teacher Readiness for Online Learning Measurement/TROLM and we found that lecturers were ready because they had a high score in communicating via computer and in self-directed learning to continue utilizing the technology. These results contribute to research related in online learning during the pandemic and provide important implications for University’s management in dealing with changes in education.

In this chapter, the authors introduce a blended learning approach where LabVIEW, an e-learning environment, was integrated into a traditional graphical programming course for engineering students to teach advanced topics and to increase the programming skills of the students. In this course, the students were required to design projects using technology. The students designed small projects and frequently accessed the e-learning system to build real-world applications. The projects that students designed stimulated them to use the e-learning system. The impact of blended learning was evaluated on the basis of student surveys and certification test results. Experimental studies show that blended learning produced higher results in the students’ self-assessment and certification test.

ABSTRACTThe Covid-19 pandemic has caused learning to be carried out online. Not all students, however, are ready for online learning. This study aims to examine the level of readiness of eighth-grade students at a junior high school through an explanatory sequential mixed method design consisting of quantitative and qualitative phases. Student readiness for online learning in this study was reviewed from five dimensions: self-directed learning, motivation for learning, computer/internet self-efficacy, learner control, and online communication self-efficacy. The Online Learning Readiness Scale (OLRS) survey proposed by Hung (2010) with a five-point-Likert scale was used to collect quantitative data. The data were analyzed quantitatively, and the level of readiness was measured utilizing the e-learning readiness assessment model suggested by Aydin and Tasci (2005). Follow-up interviews were then held to support the quantitative data. The results showed that the majority of students entered the level of "ready but needs a few improvements". However, there was one item in the dimension of self-directed learning that was included in the level of "not ready needs some work". The implication of this study is the need to encourage students to actively communicate in online learning, especially for shy students.ABSTRAKPandemi Covid-19 menyebabkan pembelajaran dilakukan secara online.

In order to prevent transmission of Covid-19, the government and universities agreed to temporarily stop face-to-face lectures and replace them with distance learning in the form of online lectures. Even so, the implementation of distance learning in the form of online lectures has different characteristics from face-to-face lectures, because the role of students in online learning is far greater than the role of students in face-to-face lectures so that they require self-directed learning readiness from students so that distance learning is done can be effective. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on students' self-directed learning readiness in attending online lectures during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method used in this study is a survey, a survey conducted on 78 students. The results showed that students 'self-directed learning readiness was still at a moderate stage, so it was necessary to make an effort to identify students' self-directed learning needs and to arrange a more complete online learning schedule.
