Background.The oral an perioral piercing has a long history as part of religious, tribal,cultural or sexual symbolism and nowdays there is a high incidence of oral and perioral piercing in the adolescent population. This practice has a long history as part of religious, tribal, cultural or sexual symbolism. This article reviews current knowledge on injuries or diseases that might be produced by piercing in the oral cavity. We propose a classification to diagnosed the pathologies related to oral an perioral piercingMethods.A search was conducted of articles in PubMed, Scielo published between 1997 and 2007, using the key words ``oral and perioral, piercing ´´, ``oral, piercing and disease”, ``recessions and oral piercing´´. It has reviewed about twentythree articles 17 were narrative reviews and 6 case seriesResults.A review was carried out on the origins of oral and perioral body piercing and its local implications, classifying the different alterations like recessions, systemic implications that it can produce in the oral and perioral cavity.Conclusion.Patients with oral and perioral piercing should be regularly followed up because of the possible development of different types of adverse effects.Clinical implications.Adverse effects of oral and perioral piercing can be systemic, with transmission of infectious diseases such as hepatitis B or C, or can be local, with alteration of oral mucosae or even of dental structures.

Pyogenic granulomas (PGs) in the oral cavity present as an inflammatory hyperplasia usually caused by trauma, hormonal imbalance, chronic irritation, or as the response to a wide variety of drugs. PGs with atypical presentation and behavior may clinically mimic malignant tumors. Thus, histological examination is required to rule out cancer development. Lesions in the oral cavity have been described to be either an isolated entity or present in multiple forms and with multiple recurrences. Conservative surgical excision is the standard choice of treatment in almost every scenario. However, the severity of the lesions and the affected sites often challenge surgical treatment. In this report, we describe the clinical scenario of a recurrent PG, where surgical excision of the lesion was questioned. As an alternative, we describe a noninvasive approach with lesional steroid injections.

Pyogenic granuloma is one of the inflammatory hyperplasias seen in the oral cavity. This term is a misnomer because the lesion is unrelated to infection and in reality arises in response to various stimuli such as low- grade local irritation, traumatic injury or hormonal factors. The clinical diagnosis of such lesion can be quite challenging because of its close resemblance to certain malignancies like peripheral giant cell granuloma, kaposi’s sarcoma, non hodgkin’s lymphoma etc. for excisional biopsy, options available are conventional surgical excision, electrocautery or lasers. In this report, we seek to highlight the therapeutic advantages achieved with a soft tissue diode laser in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign, localized mass of exuberant granulation tissue produced in response to various stimuli. It is inflammatory hyperplasia of oral cavity commonly seen on gingival area and rarely on other parts of oral cavity such as lips, tongue, palate and buccal mucosa. It is seen predominantly in 2nd to 3rd decade of life in young females. Clinically manifesting as small red erythematous exophytic lesion, it must be biopsied to rule out other serious conditions. This article aims to present three cases of extra gingival pyogenic granulomas occurring in rare sites such as buccal mucosa, anterior hard palate and alveolar mucosa of completely edentulous ridge in maxilla. Pyogenic granuloma on buccal mucosa and anterior hard palate were seen in female patients with age of 40 years and 34 years respectively and pyogenic granuloma on alveolar mucosa of edentulous ridge in maxilla was noted in 70 years old male patient. Surgical excision was performed for all the lesion and follow up of one year did not show any recurrence. Please add little description of patient + treatment + followup results. Lymphangiomas are benign hamartomatous lesions of lymphatic vessels. Wilms Tumor 1 (WT1) is a transcription factor that is activated in some human neoplasias. WT1 protein expression is observed in endothelial cells during angiogenesis and is a useful marker to distinguish between vascular proliferations and vascular malformations. The purpose of the present study is to report a case series of oral lymphangiomas together with an immunohistochemical investigation of WT1. Seventeen cases of oral lymphangioma were retrieved and reviewed. Immunohistochemical analysis of WT1 protein was performed and pyogenic granuloma samples were used as positive controls. The male/female ratio was 1.125 and most of the lesions occurred in young subjects. While pyogenic granuloma showed positive staining for WT1, the endothelial cells lining the thin-walled dilated lymphatic vessels of lymphangiomas were negative for this protein. The findings strengthen the idea that oral lymphangioma is a vascular malformation characterized by lymphatic dilatation without significant endothelial proliferation.
