The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for psychological support initiatives directed toward frontline healthcare workers, which can be rapidly and sustainably implemented during an infectious disease outbreak. The current case study presents a comprehensive model of psychological support that was implemented at an intensive care unit (ICU) during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The psychological support model aimed at promoting a resilient stress reaction among frontline staff by protecting physical, social, and psychological resources. The initiatives, targeting different groups of workers, included education and training, peer support, psychologist-supervised and unsupervised group sessions, on-boarding for transferred staff, manager support, and individual sessions for workers experiencing strong stress reactions. The results of the process evaluation of this rapid implementation suggest that peer support initiatives as well as daily group sessions were the most appreciated forms of psychological support. Psychologists involved in organizing and providing the support highlighted several aspects of a successful implementation of the support model: offering support during work hours (preferably after shift), positive attitude of line managers that framed support initiatives as a team effort, and involvement of experienced psychologists able to quickly adjust the content of the support according to the current needs. The study also identified two main problems of the current implementation: the lack of efficient planning due to the use of volunteer work and the need for more structural resources on the organizational level to ensure long-term sustainability of the support model and its implementation among all groups of healthcare staff. The current case study highlights the importance of establishing permanent structural resources and routines for psychological support integrated in clinical practice by healthcare organizations to improve both rapid and sustainable response to future crises.

Ethics of care, a paradigm for mutual respect, compassion and attention to others in an organization, is considered as the most indispensable and unavoidable for a workplace. Particularly, it is essential in TVET schools as the students are mostly from diverse cultural, family and learning backgrounds and many of them require emotional and psychological support. However, TVET schools are often blamed as care within the schools is yet to be reflected in practice. In this context, a case study was carried out using humanistic paradigm to examine the nature and gravity of ethics of care in TVET schools in Nepal. Data were collected/generated from five TVET schools through prolonged interview by using interview protocol. The data were then analyzed and interpreted with relevant literature and personal reflection. This finding shows that care is imperative to lessen the anxiety and handle the complexities with the students. Care is communicated through language, actions and behaviors. In this regard, the principal maintains a comfortable channel of communication and interacts with the stakeholders to maintain care. However, each principal is unique in their approach of ethics of care. In this context, a discourse or research to explore the differences among the approaches of the principals help them learn from each other.

This case study explores how the Sesame approach and specifically Marian Lindkvist's ‘Movement with Touch and Sound’ (MTS) became the fertile soil for the psychological support and healing of refugee women in an innovative community centre in Athens. Expression through movement, ritual, imagination and play created the fine line of working obliquely yet deeply with severely traumatised women, most of whom were survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). The archetypal image of the tree, which develops new roots after the so called ‘transplant shock’, is a guiding metaphor that emerged through the therapeutic process and held an enormous significance as a representative unconscious image of the women's inner and outer journey of transformation.

This paper presents the investigation of a psychological support application using the Web Real-Time Telecommunication, or WebRTC, in helping undergraduates who experienced mental health due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.  In this study, the psychological support application using WebRTC was developed to assist undergraduates in dealing with mental and psychological health problems encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic. The case study was conducted by distributing a survey consisting of the sharing, consulting and profiling modules of the application that have to be answered by the respondents.  This application implements WebRTC as a platform for the user of the application to ‘randomly’ call another user. A user can choose whether to be the caller, the receiver, or both. The caller would be able to call the receiver when the specifications are chosen while the receiver is only able to receive a call. If both are chosen, the user would be able to initiate and receive a call. In order to connect one user to another in peer-to-peer communication, a signalling server is used.  The results obtained in this case study showed that the COVID-19 outbreak has affected undergraduates’ mental health and the developed application is able to help the undergraduates in healing their mental health.  The developed application can improve the uses of other sharing platforms such as Face Time and WhatsApp Call.

Introduction: Greece has experienced a double challenge of being under austerity for the past decade and also facing an influx of refugees and migrants (R&Ms), mostly fleeing war zones. The purpose of this case study is to report on a shelter camp in Greece. Method: An ethnographic case study technique was used. Data were collected via interviews, personal observations, and field notes. Analytic themes based on the coded data and personal memo writing were created. The sample consisted of the shelter camps’ living social reality. Results: Analysis revealed five thematic categories: ground rules, makeshift layout, food and drinks, children, and nursing perspectives. These were subsequently collated into a coherent “story” about routine daily life in the shelter camp. Discussion: As camp facilities had been hastily erected, the services were basic and life was harsh. The need to provide better facilities including social and psychological support for R&Ms is evident for this particular host facility. Implications for Practice: In Greece, R&Ms and staff cooperation is constantly sought as this new societal arrangement is a highly complex and volatile mix for everybody involved. Nurses have both a humanistic and a professional duty to be involved and help out. As the camp was run by the army, one could question the impact on culturally conflicting care provision.
