This study aimed to search available evidences in literature about social support to families of children with cancer. An integrative review was elaborated and the articles were searched in PUBMED, WEB of SCIENCE, CINAHL, PsycINFO and LILACS, using the key words: social support, cancer, child and family, between 1996 and 2006. Fifteen articles were selected and the analysis of these publications allowed for the identification of three themes: social support and the trajectory of cancer, social support to healthy siblings and social support to fathers and mothers of children with cancer. Data indicated a lack of consensus among researchers about the use of the term social support and that there is a need for greater methodological rigor in the conduction of these studies. Acknowledging the clients' support needs is important to plan nursing care and guide research development, whose results can be used in practice.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the knowledge produced on the health of low-income older women. Method: an integrative review was conducted in February 2016 on the SCOPUS, CINAHL, MEDLINE, LILACS, EMBASE, WEB OF SCIENCE databases, and in the SciELO journals directory. After the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 24 articles were selected. Results: the knowledge produced comprises two main themes: "health in face of economic adversities" and "reciprocity in social support between low-income older women and their social network". Final considerations: health professionals, especially nurses, should be attentive to aspects related to social determinants and the health of low-income older women, highlighting the fact that they are not always the recipients of care.

Descritores: Enfermagem; Segurança do Paciente; Interrupção; Fluxo de Trabalho; Cuidados de Enfermagem; Gerenciamento do Tempo.ABSTRACTObjective: to identify the effects of disruptions on the nurse's work routine and patient safety. Method: this is a bibliographical, descriptive, type-integrative review of literature, with the collection of data in the MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science and LILACS databases, in indexed articles from 2013 to 2017, analyzing them in a descriptive way, after the presentation in figures. Results: 17 articles were found and it was noticed that they revealed negative aspects regarding interruption in the nurse's work routine and patient safety, and 76.5% also showed positive points. It should be noted that the results analyzed did not consistently support the negative relationship between the interruptions and their implications in the nurse's work routine and patient safety. Conclusion: aspects that favor the occurrence of interruptions in nurses' practice were evidenced, however, there are few studies that describe the impact of interruptions on the practice and safety of the patient. There is a need for a broad understanding of the factors that cause disruption and jeopardize patient safety. The psychological adaptation of mothers of children with cancer has a significant impact on the management of the disease. As the mothers’ psychological adaptation and positive emotions have an impact on the psychological adaptation of the children, it is important to facilitate the positive growth of the mothers during their adjustment to their children’s illness. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the factors that influence posttraumatic growth (PTG) in these mothers. This research aimed to test the variables of PTG based on an existing theoretical model of PTG in mothers of children with cancer. Data were collected, using self-report questionnaires, from 222 mothers of children with cancer who visited an outpatient clinic between August 9 and September 17, 2013. The variables of optimism, disruption of core beliefs, social support, and deliberate rumination accounted for 41.4% of the variance in the mothers’ PTG. Social support and deliberate rumination are important factors directly affecting PTG in mothers of children with cancer.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify scientific production about validation methods of nursing care protocols. Method: an integrative review with search at Scielo, Pubmed/MEDLINE, Virtual Health Library, Web of Science, Scopus, and EBSCOhost. The descriptors “validation studies”, “validation studies as topic”, “protocols”, “clinical protocols”, “practice guidelines as topic”, “nursing” and “nursing assessment” and the uncontrolled descriptor “validation” were used. Results: thirty-two articles were selected, most of them Brazilian. Content validation by experts was the most frequent method, with no consensus on the number of participants for the process. The collection instruments were mostly created by the authors. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and Content Validity Index, with a variable consensus rate in the analyzed articles. Conclusion: protocols validated by experts are robust tools for use in clinical practice, with methodological rigor in development essential for its quality.

BackgroundDementia and cancer are both diseases associated with older age. The National Cancer Data Audit in England found that 4.4% of people diagnosed with cancer also had cognitive impairment. Decisions about cancer treatment can be very complex when someone already has dementia. Often someone’s closest relative may be asked to make decisions on their behalf. Little is known about the psychosocial impact that this has on carers, or what their support needs are during this time.AimTo explore the experiences of family carers who have been involved in making cancer treatment decisions on behalf of a relative with dementia, in particular identifying challenges and support needs.MethodThe authors are conducting semi-structured interviews with carers of people with dementia who have been involved in making decisions about cancer treatment on their behalf. Data is being thematically analysed using an inductive approach. Two researchers will independently verify themes.ResultsThe authors expect to have completed 14–18 interviews and will report their preliminary findings. Family carers experience many difficulties in the context of cancer and dementia, including lack of support when coping with the aftereffects of cancer treatment, lack of awareness among healthcare professionals regarding the authority granted by a lasting power of attorney and the anxiety created by feeling responsible for identifying cancer recurrence.ConclusionThis study will highlight that supporting someone with dementia through cancer treatment, and having to make decisions about it on their behalf, creates unique challenges for carers. Currently there is a significant lack of support for those facing this distressing experience.

Abstract This study is an integrative review with the aim to identify and describe the scientific evidence of the practical effect of physical activity in people with mental disorders. For the selection of articles, the databases CINAHL, MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, Cochrane and Scopus were used. The sample of this review consisted of eight articles. Their analysis resulted in the categories: obesity and metabolic syndrome, specialized nursing, sedentary and healthy lifestyles, support and social network, incentive to the practice of physical activity, and anxiety and physical activity. The benefits to physical health were partially elucidated by the sample. The implications for nursing care arise from the therapeutic efficacy of physical activity by people with mental disorders, adding individual and collective benefits that provide socialization and promotion of well-being.
