Dzieło Selvy Almady (Entre Ríos, Argentyna, 1973) zgodne jest z dwoma tendencjami charakterystycznymi dla współczesnej literatury latynoamerykańskiej: z odkryciem przestrzeni peryferyjnych w zapomnianych prowincjach w odpowiedzi na procesy deterytorializacji i transnarodowości, z jednej strony; oraz z tworzeniem intymnych mikroświatów, które domagają się konstruowania subiektywnych tożsamości, często sięgających do dzieciństwa, z drugiej. Wokół tych elementów obecnych w opowiadaniach i powieściach Almady zogniskowana jest narracja. W centrum jej analizy znajdują się rożne przejawy przemocy. Przemoc u Almady jest wszechobecna: powracającym tematem jest śmierć, agresja, przemoc wobec kobiet i zbrutalizowany język. I właśnie ta przemoc w jej różnych obliczach, stanowiąca najważniejszą cechę utworów Selvy Almady staje się przedmiotem analizy prezentowanego artykułu.

Se investiga la esperanza-desesperanza y las respuestas ante el agravio, en tres muestras de estudiantes universitarios, de dos diferentes países —Puerto Rico (n = 103) y la Argentina (n = 226)—, y de diferentes contextos culturales (Centro y Norteamérica, Buenos Aires y Entre Ríos) a fin de comparar si la estructuración del tiempo y el manejo de la agresividad están mediatizados por la cultura o, como presupone la literatura, constituyen dimensiones intrínsecas de la personalidad.

Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a parasitic zoonosis expanding in Brazil. Several municipalities in the state of Mato Grosso including those on the river Cuiabá have reported the incidence of both human and canine cases and the identification of sandfly vector, Lutzomyia longipalpis and Lu. cruzi. Dogs are considered the main reservoir of Leishmania chagasi in the urban areas, hence, we devised a cross-sectional study aimed at assessing the prevalence of the infection in the dogs of riverside communities on Cuiabá River watershed by parasitological (parasitic isolation in culture), serological, and molecular methods. Of the 248 surveyed dogs, 24 were positive in enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT), with a prevalence of 9.7%. The riverside communities located in the town of Santo Antonio do Leverger displayed a higher prevalence of the disease than the cities of Cuiabá and Várzea Grande; however, the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Dogs born in the communities had a 3.24-fold higher risk of acquiring the infection. Promastigote were isolated in the axenic culture from the bone marrow samples and intact skin. Further, DNA of Leishmania sp. was detected in the bone marrow samples, lymph nodes, leukocyte cover, and skin of only one examined dog. These samples were sequenced and they showed 99% homology to L. infantum. To conclude, we observed a higher prevalence of infection in Riverside communities of Santo Antonio do Leverger and the confirmation of autochthony in these areas justifies the surveillance actions to minimise the risk of transmission within the riverine community itself, besides its dissemination to other areas by tourism.

The City

Some epidemiological aspects of leishmaniasis in the municipality of Formiga, Brazil, an important touristic site, were evaluated. Those included phlebotomine sand fly vectors, canine infection, and geoprocessing analysis for determining critical transmission areas. Sand flies (224 insects) belonging to ten different species were captured. The most captured species includedLutzomyia longipalpis(35.3%),Lutzomyia cortelezzii(33.5%), andLutzomyia whitmani(18.3%). A significant correlation between sand fly densities and climatic conditions was detected. Serological diagnosis (DPP and ELISA) was performed in 570 dogs indicating a prevalence of 5.8%. After sequencing the main species circulating in the area wereLeishmania infantumandLeishmania braziliensis. Spatial analysis demonstrated that vegetation and hydrography may be related to sand fly distribution and infected dogs. The municipality of Formiga has proven leishmaniasis vectors and infected dogs indicating the circulation of the parasite in the city. Correlation of those data with environmental and human cases has identified the critical areas for control interventions (south, northeast, and northwest). In conclusion, there is current transmission of visceral and canine human cases and the city is on the risk for the appearance of cutaneous cases.

La presente entrevista nos sumerge a la reflexión entre la propia vida-la de la autora, la política y el compromiso con la literatura en vinculación con nuestra época. Esta conversación nos nutre de una gran potencia y movimiento de búsqueda de la propia palabra para decir el mundo. Mariana Bolzán  nació el 4 de septiembre en Paraná, Entre Ríos. Es comunicadora social y escritora. Escribe cuentos, crónicas y relatos para medios independientes digitales. Actualmente forma parte de un espacio cultural denominado La Taller, donde se producen diversas puestas estéticas contemporáneas. Un espacio potenciador de las artes que reúne un colectivo de personas–artistas visuales, fotógrafas, performers, poetas- en pos de generar visibilidad de aquello que producen. También coordina el área de Comunicación de Cultura de la Municipalidad de Paraná.
