Purpose Unlike manufacturing and research and developments, major infrastructure projects rarely emphasize or drive their objectives on the basis of innovation. This is in part because of a risk-averse culture, yet conceivably great benefits and opportunities are being lost because of this behavior. Design/methodology/approach The case for focusing on innovation in infrastructure projects is that the reasons driving innovation are not fully understood, and this impedes the effective implementation of lessons learned for the numerous innovative projects into practice more generally. The purpose of this study was to discover how innovation is produced and captured in major infrastructure projects in Australia and to understand how innovation may be replicated for future projects through refinement of design, project management, finance and procurement. Findings Engineering and project managers may find this paper helpful to better understand how innovation might happen in infrastructure projects and what different forms it can take. Originality/value The findings of this study demonstrate that people and culture drive consistent successful infrastructure outcomes more than simply the development of new products or processes.

The 100-th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mongolia, which the two neighboring countries will celebrate on November 5, 2021, gives a serious reason to assess the current state of bilateral cooperation, existing problems and prospects for its development. In recent years, the issues of intensification of Russian-Mongolian relations have been considered in the context of the trilateral «Program for the creation of the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor». Despite the lack of concrete results within the framework of this program, the implementation of a number of infrastructure projects is being prepared, which will seriously strengthen the economic base of cooperation between Russia and Mongolia and China. The paper analyzes the problematic issues of the implementation of plans for the development of transport and energy infrastructure through Mongolia, which are considered as the basis for trilateral cooperation. Particular attention is paid to plans for the development of the railway network. The promising directions for the development of cross-border infrastructure in the framework of the program for the creation of the Mongolian corridor are identified.

The culturally-grounded “Hula Empowering Lifestyle Adaptation (HELA) Study: Benefits of Dancing Hula for Cardiac Rehabilitation,” developed a cardiac rehabilitation program based on learning hula. Classes were taught by esteemed Kumu Hula Māpuana de Silva of Hālau Mōhala ʻIlima. Afterward the completion of the study, the Kumu reflected on important lessons learned, possible directions forward, ways to use the values of hula and Native Hawaiian culture to promote better health, and, of particular significance, key ways to preserve cultural integrity when using hula to treat chronic disease or as an exercise activity. Here she shares her thoughts in a conversation with members of the University of Hawai‘i’s Department of Native Hawaiian Health of the John A. Burns School of Medicine.

The prehistory of the Aegean, Balkans, and Carpathian Basin has changed dramatically in the last two decades. This review covers five aspects of these changes: ( a) the development of theoretical approaches, in which diversification from cultural archaeology has seen the spread of processual, postprocessual and later approaches; ( b) the acquisition of data, with the key major development being the proliferation of large-scale infrastructure projects; ( c) the synthesis of data, the most significant challenge being to make sense of the massive increase in paleo-environmental research, materials science, regional surveys, and site monographs; ( d) thematic questions, whose very diversity underscores the discipline's growth in these regions; and ( e) emergent trends, such as the creation of new forms of synthesis at the local, regional, and interregional scales, the theorizing and differentiation of new ways of relating people, places, plants, and animals and objects, and continuing diversification in the application of scientific techniques.

Abstract Task sharing, through models such as community health workers (CHWs), is considered an efficacious and cost-effective approach to extending access, addressing disparities, and building capacity. Increasingly, task sharing is recognized as a promising approach within sensory health. This session will share results from an NIH-funded trial of a first-in-kind CHW-delivered intervention along the U.S.-Mexico border. Trained CHWs provided a 5-week group aural rehabilitation program that included education and counseling on age-related hearing loss. A total of 136 Spanish-speaking older adults with hearing loss were randomized. Those in the immediate treatment group reported significantly greater use of communication strategies post-intervention, which was maintained over 1 year. Participants were more likely to report taking action on their hearing at 6 months (OR:1.56, p=0.001) and 1 year (OR:1.82, p=0.001). Building upon lessons learned, including post-intervention focus groups, the presentation will share guiding principles on the application of task sharing to support sensory health.
