Background: The Levin-type nasogastric tube is indicated for gastric decompression, but due to its economic cost it is used to feed and administer medications in patients who cannot do it by themselves; its proximal end does not have a closure system. The study determined the effectiveness and safety of a device (Cisol), specially created for the proximal closure of the Levin-type nasogastric tube for adults compared to the conventional device (syringe). Methods: Study of experimental design, randomized of preventive type applied outside the clinical context, through which the effectiveness and safety of both devices were estimated and compared taking into account as markers: their weight, size and shape. Results: According to the evaluation of the participants, Cisol is considered effective and safe for the proposed purposes since its weight, size and shape would significantly favor patient comfort and handling compared to the syringe. Conclusions: The new CISOL design is safe to use, and has the potential to reduce risks related to traction and overweight at the proximal end of the probe, as well as contributing to patient comfort. The effectiveness and safety of the CISOL device differs from the effectiveness and safety of the conventional device (syringe) used to close the Levin catheter.

Nasogastric intubation is a frequent practice in clinical care used for administering enteral feed, gastric decompression, and lavage. The knotting of a nasogastric tube is a rare complication with only a few incidences of narrow bore nasogastric tube knotting and even fewer wide-bore tubes reported [1-4]. Unrecognized knotting of the nasogastric tube with inadvertent removal may cause catastrophic consequences like epistaxis, respiratory distress’ severe laryngeal injury, and tracheoesophageal fistula [5-7]. Tubes have been found to be kinked and less commonly knotted. Cases of knotting have previously been identified during insertion or blockage of the tubes post-insertion. Ours is a case of nasogastric tube knotting identified in a young patient with a working tube that knotted over itself during removal.

This study, utilizing an experimental design, assessed the effects of color, size, and shape on printed marketing communication materials. Attitudinal, cognitive, and physiological measures were utilized in examining the effects of the three factors. Color was found to be the most important factor in influencing attention, attraction, and retention. Some support was also found for the use of larger print materials. Finally, several marketing implications of the study are considered.

Percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage is an effective treatment for acute cholecystitis in poor surgical candidates. Endoscopic gallbladder drainage procedures, such as endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage, endoscopic gallbladder stenting, and endoscopic naso-gallbladder drainage, have been used as alternative treatments for acute cholecystitis. These procedures are associated with increased patient comfort and physiologic drainage. We report a case of endoscopic gallbladder stenting for acute cholecystitis in a 62-year-old male undergoing chemotherapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer. After endoscopic gallbladder stenting, the patient’s acute cholecystitis resolved and he was able to undergo scheduled chemotherapy. The inserted double-pigtail plastic stent will be left in situ permanently. The choice of drainage modality for acute cholecystitis will generally be based on resources, patient preferences, local expertise, and clinical context.

A nasogastric tube is commonly used as a method of enteral feeding or gastric decompression in clinical practice and its insertion is occasionally associated with local complications. In this case report, we present an extremely rare complication of a comminuted nasogastric tube fracture in a 54-year-old male patient receiving enteral feeding in hospital secondary to a diagnosis of haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

A 55-year-old woman developed a postoperative ileus with associated nausea and vomiting following an elective laparotomy. A wide bore nasogastric (NG) tube was inserted for gastric decompression and symptom relief. Aspiration of the tube was unsuccessful and the patient continued to vomit. Imaging to investigate the acute abdomen demonstrated the nasogastric tube to be correctly sited and within pooled gastric contents. Gentle initial attempts were made to unblock the NG but to no avail and therefore it was removed. On inspection it was discovered that the NG tube had no distal perforations to allow drainage, causing failure and increasing the patient’s risk of aspiration. The aim of this report is draw attention to the importance of scrutinising all medical equipment prior to use to prevent avoidable and potentially serious patient harm.

The production of passion fruit in commercial areas requires a good correction of nutrients in the soil, however, with nutritional restrictions it can cause symptoms of deficiency expressed mainly in the leaves and stems, which may appear spots, reduced growth, changes in the architecture of these organs mainly in the its size and shape. This work aimed to know the effects caused by the suppression of nutrients in passion fruit species with an approach on their development and leaf morphology. The experimental design was completely randomized (DIC) in a 2x6 factorial scheme where the first factor was composed of two passion fruit species: P. gibertiiand P. edulis, interacting with the availability of nutrients, that is, a control group with the supply of all nutrients, with nitrogen suppression (N); phosphorus (P); potassium (K); magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe), totaling 12 treatments with four replications totaling 48 plots or plastic vessels per experiment. The species P. edulisshowed better responses to the variables of development andleaf morphology. The species P. gibertiiis more susceptible to nutrient deficiency and showed changes in the color and shape of its leaves with the restriction of nutrients. The nutrients Fe and Mg caused greater restrictions on the development and leaf morphology of passion fruit species. It is necessary to carry out a new study with the species P. gibertiiregarding the appropriate concentrations of N, P and K provided in planting and cover, as this species is used as a rootstock in commercial areas

Introduction: Bathing is one of the main responsibilities of a nurse, but this is still not done routinely because of the bathing procedure using water and a basin (conventional) takes a long time for each patient. The study aimed to determine the effect of disposable bed bathing method on Nurse satisfaction and the comfort of stroke patients at public hospital in Makassar. Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental design with post-test with control group. The subjects were divided into two groups, they were intervention group given disposable bed bathing and the control group. Results:disposable bed bathing method increased the nurse satisfaction (p = 0.029), but did not affect to the comfort perceived by the patient (p = 0.063). Conclusions: Disposable bed bathing method increases nurse satisfaction in bathing patients but there is no effect on patient comfort, because bathing habits using water is an inherent culture for patients.

AbstractGiven the many types of suboptimality in perception, I ask how one should test for multiple forms of suboptimality at the same time – or, more generally, how one should compare process models that can differ in any or all of the multiple components. In analogy to factorial experimental design, I advocate for factorial model comparison.
