AbstractUsing blended learning method, Blast Furnace subject was analysed inside the DidaTec Project. The analysed factors were the quality of presentation, quantity of information per page and human – computer interaction. The analysis shows the preference of students to work with different learning environments.

(1) Background: Simulation is a part of the day-to-day of the learning method in health sciences. The objective is to determine if the clinical simulation is useful for learning in the emergency setting, from the point of view of the nursing students. (2) Methods: A pre- and post-test exploratory study with an analytical and quasi-experimental design was used. The population is made up of nursing students from the Seville Red Cross Nursing Centre, who conducted a simulation exercise in the form of a drill for the care of multiple victims. A specific questionnaire was employed as a tool to analyse the dimensions of satisfaction, confidence and motivation, clinical experience, and decision making and technical abilities. (3) Results: There were favourable significant differences in the set of global responses, with p < 0.0001 for the “satisfaction” dimension and d = 1.25 for the “large” size of the effect, and p < 0.0069 for the “confidence and motivation” dimension and d = 0.58 for the “moderate–large” size of the effect. (4) Conclusions: The results are similar to those obtained in other studies in the scope of the 4 dimensions studied, thus coming to the conclusion that the perception of the nursing students on learning through clinical simulation is positive and favourable.

Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an important risk factor for stroke in children. Natural history studies demonstrate that greater than 10% of hemoglobin SS patients suffered ischemic stroke prior to age 20 years. In 1998, the Stroke Prevention Trial in Sickle Cell Anemia (STOP) successfully demonstrated the role for routine transfusion therapy in reducing stroke in at risk SCD patients. Fullerton and colleagues then found that first time stroke in SCD decreased in Californian children in the 2 years following STOP. We investigated the stroke rate and health care utilization of children with SCD for two calendar years in the decade following publication of the STOP trial using a national inpatient database. Methods: The 2000 and 2009 Kids’ Inpatient Database (KID) were used for analysis. SCD and stroke cases were identified by ICD-9 codes 282.6x, 430, 431, 432.9, 434.X1, 434.9, 435.9. We queried the KID procedural clinical classification software for utilization of services pertinent to SCD and stroke; transfusion, MRI, and cerebral angio. Results: In 2000, SCD was a discharge diagnosis in 34,294 children and 158 (0.46%) children had SCD and stroke. By 2009, discharges with SCD rose to 37,082 children with 212 (0.57%) children carrying both diagnoses. In 2000 and 2009, AIS is the most common stroke type at 83%, males account for 53% of stroke and black race was reported by 92% of SCD and stroke subjects. Procedure utilization is higher in the SCD and stroke population than in SCD without stroke (Figure 1). Blood transfusion is the most common procedure in both study years, significantly higher in stroke subjects. Conclusion: For pediatric inpatients with SCD, blood transfusion and diagnostic cerebrovascular procedures were significantly more common in the cohort with comorbid stroke. In the decade after STOP, children hospitalized with SCD and stroke represented less than 0.6% of the total inpatient SCD population.

This study aims to describe the implementation of multimedia learning in blended learning in mathematics in grade 4 elementary schools on the topic of fractions. Articulated storyline is an effective medium for elementary school students that is easily developed as one of the multimedia blended learning used in the blended learning method. In our research we examined how the impact of implementation blended learning using multimedia articulated storylines, In this case, it is also discussed how the influence of multimedia articulation storylines as one of the multimedia that can be developed easily to help teachers in distance learning, especially mathematics learning in schools. Primary school related to fraction learning. In this research, students are taught how to interpret the understanding of the concept of fraction problems and proof in life related to mathematics learning problems, so that they can describe mathematical problems and can understand the concept of fractions using logical reasoning so that they are able to prove reasoning about fraction problems according to their abilities. The use of reasoning is needed to determine the concepts that have been made based on the understanding of the concept of fractions that the students have. This study was designed to see the effect of blended learning which is applied as a learning model used to teach logical reasoning in mathematics learning, especially about fraction problems, and how the effect of the application of blended learning on learning outcomes of primary school students at Muhammadiyah Elementary School Pangkalpinang

As there is a limited long-term care options in Indonesia, people with dementia are cared for by their family. They often hospitalized as the condition progresses. Nurses are the profession with most contact. Therefore, preparing nursing students to care for people living with dementia is needed. Blended learning as e new learning strategy in dementia care for nursing student need to be evaluated to comprehend its feasibility in the future dementia care course.  This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a blended learning course for nursing students about dementia. A blended learning course was developed as a three-credits elective course that voluntarily joined by 42 fourth year nursing students. This course integrates the schedule, modules, and assignments in a learning management system called eLOK (Moodle based). One group pre-post test was conducted to evaluate this course using DKAS (Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale) and DAS (Dementia Attitude Scale) as instruments. Google form was integrated to evaluate the course and the use of eLOK. Data were analysed using a paired t-test. 37 students (88.1%) completed the questionnaires. There is a significant improvement in knowledge towards dementia (t = 5.96, p value < .00) but not the attitude (t = 2.50, p value = .17) right after completing the course. Students also well appreciated the quizzes and project as the evaluation of learning outcomes of the course. Moreover, the audio-visual material in eLOK made them feel helpful in learning new topics and made new constructive experience of learning. In conclusion, this blended learning is feasible to be used as a learning method for delivering dementia care course.
