Abstract:. Problem solving is one of ways to develop higher order thinking skills. Strategy of problem solving that can be developed in mathematics learning is Polya's strategy. This study aims to analyze the problem solving difficulties of elementary school students based on Polya strategy. To support this research, descriptive analysis is used on seven elementary school students . The results show that, the difficulty of mathematical problems solving of elementary school students consist of the difficulty of understanding the problem, determining the mathematical formula/concepts that is used, making connections between mathematical concepts, and reviewing the correctness of answers with questions. These happened because the problem presented is in a story problem, that is rarely studied by the students. Students usually solve mathematical problems in a form of routine questions, which only require answers in a form of algorithmic calculations.

The ability to think reflective is an important ability to be developed in the mathematics learning process because it contains critical thinking skills and creative thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to assess the level of reflective thinking skills of elementary school students in high grades. This type of research is library research. The research data was obtained through a review of literature sources, including literature from print and online research journals, proceedings, reference books according to topics, modules, and other relevant sources. The ability to think reflective of elementary school students in high grades includes, first mentioning things in basic knowledge what is asked in the questions, what is known, mentioning the relationship between what is asked and what is known, and so on. Second, displaying problem-solving ideas designed according to known knowledge. Third, look back at the problem solving that has been made in order, including correcting and explaining if there is an error from the answer, and making conclusions correctly

In this paper, we explore the challenges experienced by a group of Primary 5 to 6 (age 12–14) students as they engaged in a series of problem-solving tasks through block-based programming. The challenges were analysed according to a taxonomy focusing on the presence of computational thinking (CT) elements in mathematics contexts: preparing problems, programming, create computational abstractions, as well as troubleshooting and debugging. Our results suggested that the challenges experienced by students were compounded by both having to learn the CT-based environment as well as to apply mathematical concepts and problem solving in that environment. Possible explanations for the observed challenges stemming from differences between CT and mathematical thinking are discussed in detail, along with suggestions towards improving the effectiveness of integrating CT into mathematics learning. This study provides evidence-based directions towards enriching mathematics education with computation.

Learning media is an important tool in learning proces, especially learning media that are made based on student needs and characteristics. One of learning media that is effectively applied at the primary school level is a module. This study aims to produce and determine the feasibility of mathematics learning media in the form of HOTS integrated realistic-based modules on volume building materials (cubes and blocks) as learning media for fifth grade elementary school students. The subjects of study were six students of grade V SD Negeri Sindurjan. The research method was used R&D (Research and Development) using ADDIE model. The ADDIE model consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation. Based on the results of research (1), a HOTS integrated realistic mathematics module development product is produced. (2) The validation results obtained from the evaluation of media experts by 3.20 and material experts by 3.65. From the two results, it was developed to be 3.40 or > 3.25, the very valid category. (3) The practicality questionnaire was obtained from the student response assessment of 3.40 or > 3.25 with the very practical category. Thus the HOTS integrated realistic-based mathematics module is suitable for use as a learning medium for fifth grade elementary school students.

This study aimed at determining the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in empowering the creative thinking skills of elementary school students in Pagergunung Ulujami Pemalang in social studies (IPS) learning. The research population was all fifth graders of the elementary school in Pagergunung Ulujami, Pemalang Regency, the sample of this study was taken using quasi-experimental, while data collection technique used pre-test and post-test techniques on students' creative thinking abilities. Meanwhile, the statistical test analysis technique used the proportion test and the difference between the two proportions. The results showed a significance level of 5%. The conclusions of the study are: (1) PBL model is effective in the aspect of students' creative thinking abilities, but less effective in the aspect of problem-solving abilities in IPS learning, (2) PBL model is more effective than conventional learning in both students' creative thinking and problem-solving ability.

Science learning in elementary schools using the PBL learning model can grow students' higher-order thinking skills, such as problem-solving and creative thinking skills. The purpose of correlational research was to analyze the relationship between problem-solving and creative thinking skills of elementary school students through the implementation of PBL. The predictor variables and criteria in the research were in the form of problem-solving and creative thinking skills, respectively. The population of this study was the fifth-grade elementary school students, totaling 120 students. This study’s sample was 33 students. The data retrieval used problem-solving and creative thinking skills tests on the concept of the human circulatory system. The data analysis was performed by linear regression. The results showed a correlation between creative thinking and problem-solving skills in learning with PBL. There is a strong relationship between problem-solving and creative thinking skills through PBL. The predictor variable contributed 37.8% to the criterion variable. This study recommends that it is essential to familiarize PBL in elementary schools learning to improve students' higher-order thinking skills.
