The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the adsorption of dye on carbon microparticles. We conducted two experiments: Understanding of the adsorption of dye on carbon microparticles. We used turmeric solution as a model of dye, in which this solution was contacted into commercially available carbon microparticles in the batch-typed adsorption reactor. The measurement results were then compared to several adsorption isotherm models, such as Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models; and finding teaching strategies to improve students’ understanding on the adsorption concept to students with special needs. As for the second part which is finding strategies to teach the obtained results and their concept of adsorption to students with special needs, we evaluated the strategies to eight students with intellectual disabilities in special schools in Kuningan District, Indonesia using a Single Subject Research method (equipped with pre-test, post-test, and experimental demonstration). The results showed that carbon can absorb dye and can be used as an alternative for wastewater treatment. The isotherm models have the linearity parameter R2 of above 50%, and the most suitable model is Freundlich. The models also confirmed favorable adsorption with multilayer structure and physical interaction between turmeric and carbon microparticles. Demonstrating experiments and informing the measurement results gave great impacts on students’ comprehension, in which they have better understanding about the concept of adsorption compared to the conventional teaching method.

<p>This study aims to measure the effectiveness of “multiplex teaching method” in mastering vocabulary for deaf students. Multiplex teaching method consists of picture language, sign language, printed-word language, written language, and spoken language. The research was designed as a single subject research (SSR) with baseline, intervention, and maintenance phase (A-B-A’ design). The research subjects consisted of two deaf students in special school of SLB Bhakti Luhur Malang, Indonesia. In addition, a special education teacher and an observer were involved in this study. The intervention instrument comprised five lesson plans (LP), each containing a vocabulary of four words. The data were analyzed using intra-condition and inter-condition graphical inspection with a focus on data stability, trends, and score changes. The effectiveness was determined by the Percentage of Non-Overlapping data (PND). The change of score from A'/A achieved by Subject-1 was 7.86 points, while Subject-2 obtained 7.68 points. Subject-1 obtained an average PND B/A of 100% and average PND A'/B of 82.5%. Subject-2 achieved an average PND B/A of 99% and PND A’/B of 90%. Thus, multiplex teaching method is very effective in helping deaf students master vocabulary.</p>

This study aims at: (1) knowing whether there is an influence from the sensory integration approach using brain gym treatment and meronce (bead stringing) activities towards counting skills among children with special needs; (2) describing the effect of the sensory integration approach through brain gym treatment and meronce activities on counting skills among children with special needs. This study used the mixed methods with sequential explanatory design. The data analysis techniques were quantitative data analysis with SSR (single subject research) with A-B-A design and qualitative data analysis with data reduction, data display, as well as conclusions drawing and verification. The data were collected from the results of observations, interviews, tests, field notes, and documentations. The objects in this study were the students from the Philea Therapy Center, Batam. Based on the research findings, some conclusions can be drawn as follow: (1) there is a positive effect of the sensory integration approach through brain gym treatment and meronce activities on the counting skills among children with special needs in which the mean level in pre-test (A) was 50, treatment (B) was 83,33, and post-test (A) was 86.66, respectively; (2) sensory integration approach with brain gym treatment and meronce activities has a positive influence on the counting skills among children with special needs.

This research aims to know the effectiveness of self-improvement application toward autonomy of mentally disabled children (medium category) at school of special needs students (SLB) Abc Argasari Yayasan Lestari Tasikmalaya.  Quasi-experiment using single subject research design and multiple baseline design is used. Collecting data used observation with Rating Scale instrument and interview. Result shows that there is an increasing score in treatment phases. It ca be concluded that self-improvement program effect the autonomy of mentally disabled children at  School of special needs students (SLB) Abc Argasari Yayasan Lestari Tasikmalaya.
