Most studies define the technical success of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) as a Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (TICI) revascularization grade of 2b or higher. However, growing evidence suggests that TICI 3 is the best angiographic predictor of improved functional outcomes. To assess the association between successful TICI revascularization grades and functional independence at 90 days, we performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis of thrombectomy studies that reported TICI scores and functional outcomes, measured by the modified Rankin Scale, using the semi-automated AutoLit software platform. Forty studies with 8691 patients were included in the quantitative synthesis. Across TICI, modified TICI (mTICI), and expanded TICI (eTICI), the highest rate of good functional outcomes was observed in patients with TICI 3 recanalization, followed by those with TICI 2c and TICI 2b recanalization, respectively. Rates of good functional outcomes were similar among patients with either TICI 2c or TICI 3 grades. On further sensitivity analysis of the eTICI scale, the rates of good functional outcomes were equivalent between eTICI 2b50 and eTICI 2b67 (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.52 to 1.25). We conclude that near complete or complete revascularization (TICI 2c/3) is associated with higher rates of functional outcomes after EVT.

The protection and promotion of healthy wildlife populations is emerging as a shared goal among stakeholders in the face of unprecedented environmental threats. Accordingly, there are growing demands for the generation of actionable wildlife health information. Wildlife health surveillance is a connected system of knowledge that generates data on a range of factors that influence health. Canada recently approved the Pan-Canadian Approach to Wildlife Health that describes challenges facing wildlife health programs and provides a path forward for modernizing our approach. This scoping review was undertaken to describe the range of peer-reviewed Canadian wildlife health surveillance literature within the context of the challenges facing wildlife health programs and to provide a quantitative synthesis of evidence to establish baselines, identify gaps, and inform areas for growth. This review describes patterns related to species, location, authorship/funding, objectives, and methodology. Five areas are identified that have the potential to propel the field of wildlife health: representativeness, expanded/diversified collaboration, community engagement, harmonization, and a shift to a solutions-focused and One Health mindset. This scoping review provides a synopsis of 10 years of Canadian wildlife health surveillance, challenges us to envision the future of successful wildlife health surveillance, and provides a benchmark from which we can measure change.

The aim of this systematic review was to examine the scientific evidence regarding physical activity and physical fitness among university students. The search and analysis of the studies were done in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. An electronic databases search (Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and Scopus) yielded 11,839 studies. Subsequently, the identified studies had to be published in English between 2011 and 2021, the experimental study had to have included males and females attending a faculty, and the participants had to have been evaluated for physical activity and fitness. A total of 21 studies were included in the quantitative synthesis, with a total of 7306 participants, both male and female. After analyzing the obtained results, it could be concluded that university students show a satisfactory level of physical activity and physical fitness. However, the results vary due to different factors involved, mostly related to the cultural differences and educational systems in different countries. As this study observes mediocre results of physical activity and physical fitness among university students, it is crucial to get their attention and awareness, to at least maintain a satisfactory level of physical activity and physical fitness.

Background: A self-monitoring approach utilizing fitness trackers that provide feedback regarding physical activities has been recently applied to rehabilitation patients to promote voluntary walking activities. Although this approach has been proven to increase physical activity, it is uncertain whether the intervention improves walking ability.Aim: This review investigated whether the additional self-monitoring approach using activity trackers would improve walking ability in any type of rehabilitation setting. Methods: A systematic search was performed in four databases [PubMed (MEDLINE), The Cochrane Library, SPORTDiscus, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature] to identify studies that examined the self-monitoring approach combined with rehabilitative intervention vs. the same rehabilitative intervention only in participants with any unhealthy conditions. Two review authors independently assessed the eligibility of all the retrieved English literature published from 2009 to 2019, then discussed the final inclusion. The risk of bias was assessed referring to the criteria of the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. The key findings were synthesized using narrative synthesis. In addition, a quantitative synthesis was conducted when more than two studies investigating the same disease were identified. Results: Eleven randomized controlled trials satisfied the eligibility criteria, nine of which had a lower risk of bias. The types of diseases included stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cancer, Parkinson's disease, hemophilia, peripheral artery disease, post-total knee arthroplasty, and geriatric rehabilitation. Eight studies reported measures of walking endurance and four reported measures of gait speed. In the quantitative synthesis of two studies investigating COPD, there was a significant between-group difference in terms of changes in the 6-min walking distance from the baseline, which was favorable to the additional self-monitoring intervention group (mean difference: 13.1 m; 95% confidence interval, 1.8–24.5; 2 studies, 124 participants; p = 0.02; I2 = 0%). Other available data revealed no consistent evidence regarding effectiveness of the intervention. Conclusions: The findings indicate that there is little evidence suggesting the effectiveness of the self-monitoring approach in improving walking ability in rehabilitation settings. However, a weak recommendation for patients with stable COPD was implicated in the quantitative synthesis. Further research would be required to explore the best indications for this self-monitoring approach.Systematic Review Registration: CRD 42020157695.

Backgound: The high incidence of thiopurine-induced myelosuppression in Asians is known to be attributable to genetic variation in thiopurine metabolism. A quantitative synthesis to summarize the genetic association with thiopurine-induced myelosuppression in Asians was therefore conducted. Methods: A Literature search was performed from January 2016 to May 2021 in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase and addition search included the studies from Zhang et al. Two reviewers independently extracted the following data: the author’s name, year of publication, ethnicity, drugs, diseases, genetic polymorphisms, onset, type of myelosuppression and results of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess the quality of the studies. The pooled odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to evaluate the associations of NUDT15 and the risk of thiopurine-induced myelosuppression stratified by onset and type of myelosuppressive. Subgroup analysis by NUDT15 genetic polymorphisms was performed. Results: A total of 30 studies was included in this meta-analysis. The overall OR for the relationship between NUDT15 genetic polymorphisms and thiopurine-induced early onset of leukopenia and neutropenia in Asian populations were 11.43 (95% CI 7.11–18.35) and 16.35 (95% CI 10.20–26.22). Among NUDT15 polymorphisms, NUDT15*3 showed a significantly increased risk of early leukopenia (OR 15.31; 95% CI 9.65–24.27) and early neutropenia (OR 15.85; 95% CI 8.80–28.53). A significantly higher thiopurine-induced early neutropenic risk was also found for NUDT15*2 (OR 37.51; 95% CI 1.99–708.69). Whereas, NUDT15*5 and NUDT15*6 variants showed a lower risk of leukopenia. Conclusion: This study suggests that NUDT15*3 and NUDT15*2 are important genetic markers of thiopurine-induced early onset of myelotoxicity in Asians, therefore, early detection of these variants before initiating thiopurine therapy is necessary.

Undoubtedly, it cannot be denied rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) preserved and protected under Islamic and Legal perspectives. Islam sees the disability as morally neutral and given equal preservation just like any other human being. Ensuring their inclusiveness can help achieve global goals, realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by, for, and with PWDs. Building on the principle of "leaving no one behind," the new Agenda emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all (United Nations, 2016). This research examined the rights of PWDs according to Islamic and legal perspectives. This study uses the PRISMA methodology and two electronic databases from SCOPUS and HeinOnline systematically searched for papers or articles relating to Islam and disabilities, legal perspective, and the rights of PWDs over the period 2010 until 2020. The data collected was analyzed and recorded in the PRISMA flow chart. The result shows that 54 articles showed from the searching on both databases. However, only 28 journal articles were selected and analyzed after the final filter in the qualitative and quantitative synthesis. Ten interesting articles were chosen for discussion on the Islamic and legal perspectives on the rights of PWDs. Hopefully, this research will provide a useful overview and discussion of the systematic analysis of PWD rights from Islamic and legal perspectives using PRISMA methodology, as well as serve as a reference for other researchers and academics.

Abstract Background and purpose Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is the most common inflammatory autoimmune thyroid disease and also the most common cause of hypothyroidism in developed countries. There is evidence of the role of HT in developing thyroid cancers (TCs). This study investigated the association between HT and different types of TCs. Methods Results of a comprehensive search in three major databases, as well as hand searching, were screened in title/abstract and full-text stages and the relevant data were extracted from the studies that met the inclusion criteria. Risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools and the meta-analysis was conducted with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Results Out of 4785 records, 50 studies were included in the systematic review, and 27 of them met the criteria for quantitative synthesis. The results indicated a significant role for HT in developing papillary TC (OR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.04 to 2.61), medullary TC (OR: 2.70; 95% CI: 1.20 to 6.07) and lymphoma (OR:12.92; 95% CI: 2.15 to 77.63); but not anaplastic TC (OR: 1.92; 95% CI: 0.29 to 1.90) and follicular TC (OR: 0.73; 95% CI: 0.41 to 1.27). Also, this study found a significant association between HT and thyroid malignancies (OR: 1.36; 95% CI: 1.05 to 1.77). Conclusion Although we found a significant association between HT and some types of TCs, High RoB studies, high level of heterogeneity, and the limited number of well-designed prospective studies, suggested the need for more studies to reach more reliable evidence.

Several observational studies have examined vitamin D pathway polymorphisms and their association with type 1 diabetes (T1D) susceptibility, with inconclusive results. We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis assessing associations between selected variants affecting 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and T1D risk. We conducted a systematic search of Medline, Embase, Web of Science and OpenGWAS updated in April 2021. The following keywords “vitamin D” and/or “single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)” and “T1D” were selected to identify relevant articles. Seven SNPs (or their proxies) in six genes were analysed: CYP2R1 rs10741657, CYP2R1 (low frequency) rs117913124, DHCR7/NADSYN1 rs12785878, GC rs3755967, CYP24A1 rs17216707, AMDHD1 rs10745742 and SEC23A rs8018720. Seven case-control and three cohort studies were eligible for quantitative synthesis (n = 10). Meta-analysis results suggested no association with T1D (range of pooled ORs for all SNPs: 0.97–1.02; p > 0.01). Heterogeneity was found in DHCR7/NADSYN1 rs12785878 (I2: 64.8%, p = 0.02). Sensitivity analysis showed exclusion of any single study did not alter the overall pooled effect. No association with T1D was observed among a Caucasian subgroup. In conclusion, the evidence from the meta-analysis indicates a null association between selected variants affecting serum 25(OH)D concentrations and T1D.

Background: Chronic endometritis (CE) and endometrial polyps (EPs) are common conditions in reproductive age women. CE is an infectious disorder of the endometrium characterized by signs of chronic inflammation at hysteroscopic and histological analyses. EPs are abnormal endometrial growths containing glands, stroma and blood vessels projecting from the lining of the uterus. During the last years, different authors have investigated the correlation between CE and EPs, with controversial results. The aim of this study was to summarize available evidence on the potential correlation between CE and EPs. Design: Systematic literature review and meta-analysis. Methods: Observational-studies were identified by searching electronic databases from their inception to September 2021. Only studies on pre-menopausal women were included. Statistical analysis was performed using MedCalc 16.4.3 (Ostend, Belgium) and Review Manager version 5.3 (Nordic Cochrane Centre, Cochrane Collaboration). The summary measures were reported as pooled proportion or odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). The primary outcome was to evaluate the prevalence of CE in women with EPs. The secondary outcome was to determine the prevalence of CD-138-positive EPs among EPs. Tertiary outcomes were to compare the prevalence of CE in women with EPs versus women with a non-polypoid endometrium and to compare the prevalence of CE in women with a single EP versus women with multiple EPs. Results: Eight observational studies (n = 3225 patients) were included in quantitative synthesis. Pooled prevalence of CE among women with EPs was 51.35% (95% CI, 27.24–75.13%). Pooled proportion of CD-138-positive EPs among EPs was 70.73% (95% CI, 55.73–83.68%). Women with EPs showed higher prevalence of CE compared to women without EPs (OR 3.07, 95% CI 1.59–5.95). Women with ≥3 EPs had higher prevalence of CE then women with a single EP (OR 3.43, 95% CI 1.83–6.46). Conclusions: In pre-menopausal women, CE and EPs may have a dependent relationship and may represent two consequent steps of a common pathological process.
