This article focuses on various features of product data management system (PDM). A PDM system manages all forms of product data; that is, computer-aided design or text files, or anything else concerning product development. PDM systems also ensure that bills of material are generated on the design side. The bill of material describes exactly what parts will be used in each manufactured product. Using the bill of material (BOM), a manufacturing engineer determines the most efficient set of operations to manufacture a product and may request a design modification to streamline production. BOM development should logically take place in the PDM system at the same time the product is being developed and then should be released to the enterprise resource planning system—and thus to the manufacturing side—when the product design is complete. An enterprise-resource planning system is a company’s operational, planning, and control system used to manage the resources of the manufacturing part of the operation.

Automatisierung, intelligente Produktionsplanung und Monitoring sind gängige Anwendungen – daher sind Informationstechnologie (IT)-Systeme aus der Produktion nicht mehr wegzudenken. Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die aktuellen Entwicklungen und Innovationen im Bereich der Produktions-IT (zum Beispiel Enterprise Resource Planning ERP, Manufacturing Excecution Systems MES und Computer Aided Quality Assurance CAQ), nennt Anwendungsgebiete und beleuchtet deren Potenziale anhand konkreter Fallbeispiele. Es werden darüber hinaus die Herausforderungen diskutiert, welche es im Rahmen von Industrie 4.0 zu meistern gilt.   IT systems nowadays are common in manufacturing environments for applications such as automation, intelligent production planning or monitoring. This article provides an overview about current developments and innovations in production planning and control (e.g. ERP, MES; CAQ), mentions promising areas for application and evaluates their potential referring to case studies. Based on this, challenges coming along with changes within the broad field of Industry 4.0 are discussed.

Transactional systems are an alternative process improvement for any industrial sector; however, due to the rapid growth of the plastics industry worldwide, this industry requires the automation of production with agile systems. This document presents a procedure to implement transactional tools of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) for the automation and control of the operations area processes in an organization. These processes are part of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools that use connections to mobile devices and are often compatible with different customer support systems, allowing the integration of all business units to interact with the manufacturing control and purchasing. The method used in the research have a quantitative cut in which 15 companies were studied in the plastics sector in Mexico and was divided in three phases, these focused on the revision of the business processes and the analysis of the substantive processes of the organization that allowed the subsequent establishment of proposals for improvement. In the final proposal of implementation of the tool tansaccional included: the functional analysis of the systems, the planning and their evaluation.

The concept of a smart city has attracted the attention of many scholars and policymakers in many countries worldwide. The role of accounting as a tool of governance in smart city politics, however, has so far been largely overlooked, especially in less developed countries (LDCs). This paper sets off to fill this research gap and hitherto unexplored linkages between accounting and smart cities. Drawing on the concept of governmentality, the authors conducted a case study based on document analysis, meetings observation, and 42 semi-structured interviews at a branch of a hybrid electricity company owned by New Cairo City in Egypt, during 2018. Findings show that the case company has implemented smart distribution networks of electricity in which new management accounting technology (enterprise resource planning (ERP) system) is used to trace costs, revenues, client complaints and feedback in a timely manner. The new network (of infrastructure and technologies) has represented timely accounting information as a major political power to influence accurate governance decision-making, such as smart electricity pricing and control, and to challenge governance decisions that are not sound. This paper is one of the first studies to explore the socio-political dynamics of accounting in smart city governance in the context of LDCs.

The repair and maintenance operations carried out within a shipyard are correlated with the process of ensuring and managing the resources necessary to carry out the works included in the technical specification. Resource planning is a complex issue that can be addressed from several points of view. Initially, the planning of activities is done taking into account only the analysis of the time parameter and the dependencies between activities imposed by the technological process. The practice of the activities carried out in a shipyard has demonstrated that an analysis of the necessary resources according to the existing availability is also necessary. There are many unforeseen situations that can affect both the time of work and resources (material, financial, human) thus complicating the process of planning activities. This paper proposes a way to analyze the resource requirements of a repair project based on available resources, through Critical Path Method diagrams. This provides a comparative view of the daily required profile for a particular resource associated with the project in respect to the daily available profile of the shipyard.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems integrate information from different departments in one common database for an entire organization. They have demonstrated their efficacy in a number of companies of different types. However, a problem arises in organizations with highly differentiated cultural areas; often such areas have traditionally had independent information systems and control over the interests of their area, such as hospitals. This case study analyzes the process of an ERP system implementation in a hospital. The study’s objective is to identify, by means of this qualitative research technique, the principal technological objectives that were set in the process of implementation, which of those objectives were achieved, and the deficiencies that have subsequently become evident.

The purpose of this paper is to present a plan on how to improve the operational efficiency of the company during the Covid-19 period. Previous research has been reviewed in order to gain further knowledge of the problem; primarily on the operational performance, as well as on the supply chain management of the company. The results have shown that, on the basis of a social network analysis, the Procurement Engineer is the most influential individual in the management of information within the organization, where the Procurement Engineer is also the employee who has a strong link with the transfer of data to top management, the Ishikawa diagram indicates that the present environment is the primary cause of the company's problems in finding products, while the Tree diagram shows the only approach to the issue of insufficient employees is by supplying training for new or existing workers or by assigning staff from another department to serve permanently in a department where there is a lack of staff. In addition, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) framework will strengthen the green supply chain management of the business as it will help to reduce the loss of time waiting for or processing the company's materials, thereby reducing the cost as well. This research offers proof of the pre-Covid 19 and post-Covid 19 impacts on green supply chain operational performance.
