As teaching effectiveness is crucial for achieving academic excellence, teachers' attributes contributing towards teaching effectiveness are worth exploring. This study examines 300 BS. Education and Economics students' perception of teachers' characteristics who have taught them. Accordingly, teachers are categorized based on scores of attributes obtained through student ratings. Association between teacher attributes and overall teaching effectiveness is found, and finally, a teaching effectiveness framework is designed based on characteristics, which were significantly associated with teaching effectiveness. The majority (>60%) of students rated all attributes under the medium category, with 54.64% and 50.61% of students placing (rating) overall teaching effectiveness under the high and medium sort respectively, with 17.61 % under the low category. Also, all attributes were found to be positively correlated with overall teaching effectiveness. Out of 30 items under all attributes, 22 items significantly associated with teaching effectiveness were included in the teaching effectiveness framework. In light of the findings, we give teachers suggestions regarding their teaching attributes as perceived by students.

Characteristics of university courses and student engagement were examined in relation to student ratings of instruction. The Universal Student Ratings of Instruction instrument was administered to students at the end of every course at a major Canadian university over a three-year period. Using a two-step analytic procedure, a latent variable path model was created. The model showed a moderate fit to the data (Comparative Fit Index = .88), converged in _0 iterations, with a standardized residual mean error of .03, χ2 (_49) = _988.59, p < .05. The model indicated that course characteristics such as status and description are not directly related to student ratings. Rather, they are mediated by student engagement, which is measured by student attendance and expected grade. It was concluded that, although the model is statistically adequate, many other factors determine how students rate their instructors.

The “Classification of disability categories in rock climbing” was developed together with scientists from the University of Perugia (Italy). This classification is successfully used to date. The article defines and lists the categories of young people’s disability that allow them to participate in climbing competitions. Selection and equipment of tracks for training and competitions. Providing security and insurance for different categories of disability. Medical support of sports events. Optimization of the competition program and regulations. Organization of educational and training process for different categories of young people’s disability participating in rock climbing sports events.

The aim of the study is to estimate the effect of the Russian academic excellence project (Project 5-100) on the publication activity of the University of Tyumen, measured by the number of articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database. The hypothesis of the research is that there is a positive causal relationship between the number of published articles and the University’s participation in Project 5-100. This impact was estimated empirically for the University of Tyumen while the other university participants (31 universities) were taken as a control group. Counterfactual scenarios are used to find the number of articles that the university employees would have published in the absence of Project 5-100. Thus, it is shown that, despite the failure to meet the goal of entering the top 200 of world universities in the ranking for ecology and agricultural biology, the University of Tyumen benefited from its participation in Project 5-100: its number of publications, especially in journals of the first and second quartile, has been growing faster than in the control group of universities.

Hans Selye, the father of the stress concept, was a giant of science of the twentieth century. Beyond his best-known work on stress, he also made several discoveries on various other fields of experimental medicine. He described and characterized various pluricausal diseases. In addition, he made pivotal contributions to the broad field of endocrinology, especially to the classification of steroids and to our better understanding of their mode of action. He developed surgical technics and experimental animal models suitable for studying the pathogenesis and prevention of human diseases. Selye was an extremely well educated, highly intelligent and disciplined individual, an original and creative scientist, an outstanding teacher, a philosopher, a prolific author, a fabulous communicator and a gifted organizer successfully establishing, developing and managing a major academic research institution, the word-famous Institute of Experimental Medicine and Surgery of the University of Montreal. The University Hospital of Zurich offers a text-based, Medical Online Consultation Service to the public since 1999. Users asked health questions anonymously to tele-doctors. This study focused on the characteristics of male enquirers with intimate health problems, the content of their questions, the medical advice given by tele-doctors and the rating of the service to prove the benefit of an online service for medical laymen. This retrospective study included 5.1% of 3,305 enquiries from 2008 to 2010 using the International Classification of Diseases-10 and International Classification of Primary Care codes relevant for intimate and sexual health problems in men. A professional text analysis program (MAXQDA) supported the content analysis, which is based on the procedure of inductive category development described by Mayring. The average age was 40 years, 63.1% enquirers had no comorbidity, in 62.5% it was the first time they consulted a doctor, and 70.2% asked for a specific, single, intimate health issue. In 64.3%, the most important organ of concern was the penis. Overall, 30.4% asked about sexually transmitted diseases. In 74.4% a doctor visit was recommended to clarify the health issue. The rating of the problem solving was very good. The service was mainly used by younger men without comorbidity and no previous contact with a doctor with regard to an intimate health problem. The anonymous setting of the teleconsultation provided men individual, professional medical advice and decision support. Teleconsultation is suggested to empower patients by developing more health literacy.

A number of years ago I began to form and arrange in the Anatomical Museum of the University of Edinburgh a collection of the hair of the head to illustrate the varieties in colour and character which exist in the Races of Men. In a classification of the races based on the colour and characters of the hair, anthropologists have usually adopted the suggestion made by Bory de St Vincent, and have divided them into two groups: Leiotrichi, with straight, smooth hair; and Ulotrichi, with woolly or frizzly hair. Each of these again is capable of subdivision.In this memoir I intend especially to examine the Ulotrichi, which comprise two well-marked subdivisions. In one the hair is very short, and is arranged in small spiral tufts, the individual hairs in which are twisted on each other, a mat-like arrangement of compact spiral locks closely set together being the result. In the other the hair is moderately long, the locks are slender, curled or spirally twisted in a part of their length and terminate at the free end in a frizzly bush-like arrangement. Ulotrichous hair is found in various African races, in the aborigines of Tasmania, New Guinea, the Melanesian Islands in the Pacific, in the Negritos of the Malay Peninsula and of some of the islands of the Asiatic Archipelago. The Leiotrichi are Australians, Polynesians, Mongols, Malays, Indians, Arabs, Esquimaux and Europeans.

Subject. The article investigates the construction of a system of risk-oriented internal control of educational organizations’ activities. Objectives. The purpose is to develop a classification of risks associated with various activities of an educational organization, identify entities of internal control responsible for risk management, create a portfolio and risk register that serve as a basis for organizing an effective system of risk-oriented internal control and improving the quality of university management. Methods. The study draws on methods of detailing, observation, generalization, comparison, classification, etc. Results. Using the university case, I disclose approaches to risk classification, considering the specifics of educational organization's activities, the formation of a passport and risk register, enabling through internal control tools to identify opportunities for their mitigating and to make appropriate management decisions. Conclusions. It is possible and advisable to apply a risk-based approach to the organization of internal control in an educational organization along with traditional approaches that are aimed at identifying violations of the requirements of legitimate, targeted and rational spending of budgetary and extra-budgetary funds. It is necessary to classify and assess risks associated with various activities of an educational organization, to monitor the implementation of risk management initiatives.

This study aims to show the methodology of implementation of the Skills Laboratories (Re-AbilityLab) at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. These Skill Labs offer activities to maximize patient performance by promoting specific functional outcomes, which are described in the International Classification of Functionality. The activities are dynamic and carried out by a multidisciplinary team in the areas of health, education, and management. Innovation and strategic aspects of the knowledge economy are structured in the management of this project to enhance the achievement of purposes and results. The implementation process includes solutions adopted, definition of responsibilities, difficulties faced, benefits, functionality of the methods applied, and lessons learned. Mapping the process from the current scenario to the desired contributes to the transition from a care model (linear, refractory, obsolete) to an exponential model of care (intangibles, incremental innovation).
