This study aims to show the methodology of implementation of the Skills Laboratories (Re-AbilityLab) at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. These Skill Labs offer activities to maximize patient performance by promoting specific functional outcomes, which are described in the International Classification of Functionality. The activities are dynamic and carried out by a multidisciplinary team in the areas of health, education, and management. Innovation and strategic aspects of the knowledge economy are structured in the management of this project to enhance the achievement of purposes and results. The implementation process includes solutions adopted, definition of responsibilities, difficulties faced, benefits, functionality of the methods applied, and lessons learned. Mapping the process from the current scenario to the desired contributes to the transition from a care model (linear, refractory, obsolete) to an exponential model of care (intangibles, incremental innovation).

Corrosion at steel beam ends is one of the most pressing challenges in the maintenance of aging bridges. To tackle this challenge, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) has partnered with the University of Connecticut to develop a repair method that benefits from the superior mechanical and durability characteristics of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) material. The repair involves welding shear studs to the intact portions of the web and encasing the beam end with UHPC. This provides an alternate load path for bearing forces that bypasses the corroded regions of the beam. The structural viability of the repair has been extensively proven through small- and full-scale experiments and comprehensive finite element simulations. Connecticut DOT implemented the repair for the first time in the field on a heavily trafficked four-span bridge in 2019. The UHPC beam end repair was chosen because of the access constraints and geometric complexities of the bridge that limited the viable repair options. Four of the repaired beam ends were fully instrumented to collect data on the performance of the repaired locations before casting, during curing, and for approximately 6 months following the application of the repair. This paper provides an overview of the successful repair implementation and presents the lessons learned during construction. Select data from the monitored beam ends are presented. It is expected that this information will provide engineers with a better understanding of the repair implementation process, and thus provide an additional repair option for states to enhance the safety of aging steel bridges.

Since modern organizations are characterized by a variety of goals, the definition of the effectiveness of organizational changes can be specified as a degree of results achievement (under the conditions that these results are adequate to the established and intended goals of organizational changes and the changes themselves meet certain needs of stakeholders and create conditions for constant development of an organization). This research is based on general scientific research methods: system analysis methods, scientific abstraction and generalization, comparative and categorical analysis, empirical description methods, as well as behavioral, systematic, process specifying scientific methodological approaches of the theory of management. The authors classified strategic interests of the main stakeholders in universities activities in Russian Federation; the element base and the system of interactions between them was performed in the model of interests coordination during the changes implementation process in the system of higher education and control methods when making changes were analyzed. In conclusion various forms of controlling were suggested and this variation was derived from various university stakeholders’ interests.

Abstract. The twenty-year and interdisciplinary research activity carried out by Virtualgeo has focused on the development of new methods and tools for 3D modeling that go beyond the simple digital-virtual reconstruction of solid modelling, in order to realize three-dimensional informative and photogrammetric representations that faithfully reproduce reality. These so called Advanced 3D models are the basis for carrying out metrological investigations to support the design and the BIM database population. In particular, in this paper we will deal with the segmentation tool, which allows the classification of the photogrammetric 3D model (material, degradation and chronological features). In detail, we will illustrate the collaboration experience between Virtualgeo and the University of Trieste, course in Technologies for the conservation and enhancement of architectural heritage of the Master's Degree in Architecture. The experience focused on the study of the archaeological site of the Roman river port of Aquileia, which Advanced 3D model was supplied by Virtualgeo. Firstly, the work focused on the informative contents necessary for the subsequent elaborations (different types of materials, alteration/degradation forms), starting from the use of coded lexicons (UNI 11182/2006). Subsequently, the quantitative data were associated to each category of homogeneous elements, obtainable from the segmentation (“mapping”) of the 3D model. This experience gave the chance to test the EasyCUBE PRO software: it was gradually adapted to the specific needs emerged both during the analysis of the site and the definition of conservation interventions, so as the outputs that can be generated after the elaboration of the Advanced 3D model.

Abstract:In 1987, the American Rheumatism Association issued a set of criteria for the classification of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to provide a uniform definition of RA patients. Fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic were used to transform this set of criteria into a diagnostic tool that offers diagnoses at different levels of confidence: a definite level, which was consistent with the original criteria definition, as well as several possible and superdefinite levels. Two fuzzy models and a reference model which provided results at a definite level only were applied to 292 clinical cases from a hospital for rheumatic diseases. At the definite level, all models yielded a sensitivity rate of 72.6% and a specificity rate of 87.0%. Sensitivity and specificity rates at the possible levels ranged from 73.3% to 85.6% and from 83.6% to 87.0%. At the superdefinite levels, sensitivity rates ranged from 39.0% to 63.7% and specificity rates from 90.4% to 95.2%. Fuzzy techniques were helpful to add flexibility to preexisting diagnostic criteria in order to obtain diagnoses at the desired level of confidence.

The article raises the problem of classification of the concepts of computer science and informatics studied at secondary school. The efficiency of creation of techniques of training of pupils in these concepts depends on its solution. The author proposes to consider classifications of the concepts of school informatics from four positions: on the cross-subject basis, the content lines of the educational subject "Informatics", the logical and structural interrelations and interactions of the studied concepts, the etymology of foreign-language and translated words in the definition of the concepts of informatics. As a result of the first classification general and special concepts are allocated; the second classification — inter-content and intra-content concepts; the third classification — stable (steady), expanding, key and auxiliary concepts; the fourth classification — concepts-nouns, conceptsverbs, concepts-adjectives and concepts — combinations of parts of speech.

This paper is devoted to presenting the methods in English communicating skills for Learners of English in general and the problems specific to University of Bahri. English language major’s graduates then; it discusses the notion of communicative competence, and defines strategic competence. It also briefly deals with the various definitions of communication strategies and taxonomies of conversation strategies. Also, I give brief definition of the word conversation, that is the act of talking together or exchange ideas, opinions, skills, and information. As accustomed, speaking is natural and automatic but communication is an art which must be learned and practiced. Also the aim of this paper is to present you with suitable suggestions about how you can solve problems while reading English? In order to comply with this objective: we considered two variables. The first one is that within our daily practice at the university we have students with different abilities while reading English. Therefore, we need to help them increase the ability in reading comprehension. However, we don’t have enough teachers and needed resources to supply them with the help they need. The second variable is related to the fact that at University there are different centers where the students’ skills can improve and their reading comprehension skills deficiencies could be overcome by getting help from the teachers. This study is small component of a larger curriculum review exercise. The findings of study in general suggest that both students and English language lecturers were in agreement that Sudanese students had a problem in writing and speaking English and due to that the conversational problems are raised. Finally, the paper concludes by representing the pedagogical implications of conversation strategies.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) continue to attract press coverage as they change almost daily in their format, number of registrations and potential for credentialing. An enticing aspect of the MOOC is its global reach. In this paper, we will focus on a type of MOOC called a cMOOC, because it is based on the theory of connectivism and fits the definition of an Open Educational Resource (OER) identified for this special edition of JALN. We begin with a definition of the cMOOC and a discussion of the connectivism on which it is based. Definitions and a research review are followed with a description of two MOOCs offered by two of the authors. Research on one of these MOOCs completed by a third author is presented as well. Student comments that demonstrate the intercultural connections are shared. We end with reflections, lessons learned and recommendations.
