Since coal mining production systems are very complex, repairing equipment is expensive. If a system failure occurs, it will cause disturbances such as inoperable equipment, reduced operating time, increased production costs, and reduced equipment performance. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the availability of the coal mining industry more than ever. For this purpose, the Armored Face Conveyor (AFC) machine failure data was gathered over a period of 29 months from the Tabas Coal Mine. Descriptive statistics, trends, and serial correlation tests of the data were calculated. Then, the system’s mean and point availability were simulated. Based on the results, the mean availability (all events) and point availability (all events) at 360000 h are 96% and 95%, respectively. The mean time to first failure (MTTFF) of the AFC machine was about 23.61 h. The ReliaSoft Failure Criticality Index, ReliaSoft Downing Event Criticality Index, and ReliaSoft Downtime Criticality Index electrical equipping have the largest effect, whereas the main drive subsystem is the least important. Analysis showed that availability has a direct correlation to activity management and improvements in the quality, efficiency, and the product extraction.

The issues related to the formation of the digital ecosystem in the coal-mining region within the framework of the world project “industry 4.0” are investigated. It is proved that the prospects for the development of the coal-mining region are associated with its export orientation and diversification of the economy, its complication. Technological momentum based on the use of digitization and cyber-physical systems will lead to a significant reduction in the cost of time for the implementation of manufacturing operations, which enhances the market potential of manufactured production, its competitiveness by reducing production costs, the energy costs of its manufacture and, accordingly, offered prices. The most active processes are the formation of the digital ecosystem and the use of the “Internet of Things” in the mining industry, which indicates a new stage of restructuring in this industry. Russia has accumulated “positive” experience related to the implementation of projects “smart mine” and “intellectual open-cast mine” in Kuzbass mines and coal cuts. The increasing complexity of the regional ecosystem through digitalization and automation of production will contribute to the growth of competitive advantages and competitiveness of Kuzbass coal-mining enterprises.

Abstract Non-pillar coal mining has been developed and implemented in the recent decades in China's coal mining industry. The non-pillar longwall mining by roof cutting without pre-excavated entry (N00 mining method) is one of the latest non-pillar mining methods and this method has the advantages of reduced roadway drivage ratio and increased resource recovery ratio. Previous studies show that the mining pressure during the working face advancing is one of the main factors that affect the stability of underground structures and the safety production. However, there is no evaluation or analysis of the mining pressure at the mining face using entry retaining with roof pre-cutting and an absence of pre-excavated tail entry. In this paper, both field monitoring and numerical simulation approaches are employed in the analysis of the mining pressure distribution characteristics within a range of the whole working face during the face advancing. The results are compared with the field data and simulation results from the traditional mining method performed in the same coal mine. Results supported the idea that the N00 mining method can generate a low-stress area for the retained entry. The stability of the working face and retained entry can be well maintained due to the mine pressure optimization. This paper can aid in the understanding of structural mechanic modeling and mine pressure distribution features, structural mechanic analysis and mine pressure distribution features of the N00 mining method.

In coal mining industry, equipment safety and reliability during operation are essential in the production process. In recent years, along with the continuous improvement of intelligent coal mining equipment, reliable production requirements have simultaneously increased. Therefore, this article aims to study the maintenance decision making method that considers the safety inspection of a fully mechanized mining equipment group. The goal is to establish a maintenance decision making model that considers the safety overhaul of fully mechanized mining equipment group in order to minimize the total maintenance, production costs and safety risks. Firstly, the regular safety inspection procedure and the maintenance process were introduced. Then, a model guideline method that considers a fully mechanized mining equipment group's safety inspection was established. Finally, through the comparison of algorithms and maintenance strategies, it is proved that the maintenance decision optimization method proposed in this paper is of great significance for improving equipment reliability, improving comprehensive operation rate, reducing maintenance costs, and ensuring coal mine safety production.

Tympanoplasty is one of the most performed procedures in ENT. The aggressiveness of its microscopic approach has led otologists to adopt the endoscopic approach as a less invasive alternative. The purpose of this work is to appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of this surgical technique. We conducted a prospective descriptive cross-sectional study on 20 interventions within the ENT department of August the 20th 1953 Hospital of Casablanca from April 2019 to June 2019. The average age of operated patients was 36.3 years. Perforations were unilateral in (71%) of the cases with a predominance of the anterior (29%) and subtotal (36%) locations. The tympanoplasties were performed by 3 different senior otologic surgeons, and were left in (57%). The mean operating time was (59.5 min) and the mean anesthesia duration was 75.1 min. Intraoperative vision allowed us to fully visualize the margins of all perforations (100%) and anatomical structures of the middle ear in almost all interventions. The first procedures carried out were filled with difficulties whose management of intraoperative bleeding was the main one in (42.8%) of the cases. (57%) procedures were described as easy. No complication was detected intraoperatively or immediately postoperatively. Endoscopic tympanoplasty has several advantages, including: Minimally invasive approach to the middle ear; panoramic perioperative vision; Gain of operating time; decrease in the duration of anesthesia; Valuable educational tool; postoperative comfort; Decrease in hospital stay and early return to daily activities; Better aesthetic rendering; cost and transportability. However, we also note a number of disadvantages of endoscopic tympanoplasty, particularly: performing the procedure with one hand; difficulty passing through the EAC; 2D vision that alters the perception of depth; management of intraoperative bleeding; fogging; learning curve.

Background: The management of the pancreas in patients with duodenal trauma or duodenal tumors remains a controversial issue. Pancreas-preserving total duodenectomy (PPTD) requires a meticulous surgical technique. The most common indication is familial duodenal adenomatous polyposis (FAP). The aims of this study are to carry out a systematic review of the literature on the indications for PPTD and to highlight the risks and benefits compared with other more aggressive procedures. Summary: A systematic literature review was performed following PRISMA recommendations of studies published in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane library until May 2019. Thirty articles describing 211 patients were chosen. The mean age was 48 years. The surgical indication in 75% of patients was FAP. The mean operating time was 329 min and mean intraoperative bleeding 412 mL. Postoperative morbidity rate was 49.7% (76% Clavien-Dindo <IIIa), and mortality rate was 1.4%. The mean hospital stay was 22 days. Overall survival at 1–3–5 years was >97.8%. Key Messages: PPTD is indicated for patients with benign and premalignant duodenal lesions without involvement of the pancreatic head. It is a feasible procedure offering an alternative to other more aggressive procedures in selected patients. Mortality is below 1.5%.

The mining industry plays a significant role in economic growth and development. Coal is a viable renewable energy source with 185.175 billion deposits in Thar, which has not been deeply explored. Although coal is an energy source and contributes to economic development, it puts pressure on environmental sustainability. The current study investigates Sindh Engro coal mining’s impact on environmental sustainability and human needs and interest. The Folchi and Phillips Environmental Sustainability Mathematics models are employed to measure environmental sustainability. The research findings demonstrated that Sindh Engro coal mining is potentially unsustainable for the environment. The toxic gases (methane, carbon dioxide, sulfur, etc.) are released during operational activities. The four significant environment spheres (atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and lithosphere) are negatively influenced by Thar coal mining. The second part of the analysis results shows that human needs and interests have a positive and significant relationship except for human health and safety with Sindh Engro coal mining. Environmental pollution can be controlled by utilizing environmentally friendly coal mining operations and technologies. Plantation and ecological normalization can protect the species, flora, and fauna of the Thar Desert. The government of Pakistan and the provincial government of Sind should strictly check the adaptation of environmental standards. Furthermore, the researchers should explore the environmental issues and solutions so that coal mining becomes a cost-efficient and environmental-friendly energy source in Pakistan.
