Abstract Residual cyst is consequence of a radicular cyst incomplete removal. This paper presents the case of a patient with residual cyst of unusual size located in the pre-maxilla causing large bone defect rehabilitated by titanium mesh. A 78-year-old male patient with good general health sought treatment reporting maladjustment of the upper dental prosthesis due to a volumetric increase with one year of evolution. Patient history and clinical and complementary exams led to diagnosis of residual cyst. Due to the cyst size and bone resorption, after the lesionremoval, a titanium mesh was fixed and a membrane positioned, in an attempt to reduce bone deformity and induce tissue repair to avoid functional and aesthetic sequelae. The treatment restored maxillary sinus health and provided satisfactory aesthetic contours to the patient’s face, enabling a proper prosthetic rehabilitation and proved to be a viable alternative for the treatment of similar cases. Keywords: Maxillary Sinus.

Odontogenic keratocysts are odontogenic cysts which have locally infiltrative behavior. They mostly occur in second and fourth decades but can occur at any age throughout life. In majority of cases, they are located in the posterior region of mandible, but can also be found in the maxilla especially in the canine region. In this article, we have discussed the diagnosis and management of a large odontogenic keratocyst cyst involving the maxillary sinus. A 22 years old male patient presented with pain and swelling on right side of the face since last one year. There was history of pus discharge and gradual increase in size of the swelling since last 3-4 months. Patient took antibiotics but there was no improvement. Odontogenic keratocyst is a developmental pathology which arises from additional remnants of dental lamina of oral epithelium. They present with swelling, pain and pus formation/discharge as signs of infection. Often, when the lesion is large there can be paresthesia of the lower lip. These lesions can also be clinically asymptomatic. Mostly they appear as well-demarcated unilocular radiolucency having a thin, sclerotic well-defined margin. There are many treatment options like enucleation, marsupialization, decompression, curettage, use of chemical agents like Carnoy's solution, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen or peripheral osteotomy and surgical resection of lesion.

Objective: Reporting the application of SBA procedure with titanium mesh as an alternative solution for immediate implant placement in socket with dentoalveolar trauma-induced buccal bone defect. Methods: An 18-year-old female patient visited our department, with a history dentoalveolar trauma and a loss of  tooth 21. Clinical examination during the implant placement procedure exposed  a socket with buccal bone defect. SBA with autogenous chin bone graft combined with DFDBA allograft and stabilized with titanium mesh (Ti-Mesh) for buccal defect on which flap reposition was done with tension free primary closure. Results: Ti-Mesh was removed after 3 months which no sign of inflamation appeared, implant was in a stable condition and new bone formation was observed. Subsequently, healing abutment was placed. A one-year observation suggested a good clinical retention with no luxation observed, along with decent functional and esthetic results. CBCT evaluation showed buccal bone thickness preserved. Conclusion: Sandwich bone augmentation with stabilized titanium mesh provides a satisfying result in treating horizontal buccal bone defect.

Myoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland is extremely rare malignancy. It may arise either in recurrent or pre existing pleomorphic adenoma or de novo in salivary glands. We herein present the case report of 35 years old male patient who presented to us with myoepithelial carcinoma of minor salivary gland of right maxillary sinus. Right total maxillectomy was done and orbital floor reconstruction was done with titanium mesh.

The management of orbital fractures in children and adolescents is little reported in the literature, considering that orbital fractures can cause functional problems such as enophthalmia, diplopia and aesthetic deformities. The aim of this study is to review the literature and report three clinical cases, corroborating with professional experience, about the different management of orbital fractures in adolescents, approaching the advantages, disadvantages and complications. Among the different fractures of the orbital floor, the techniques of interposition of autograft of the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus, suture for anchoring the periosteum, and reduction and stabilization of the fracture by means of titanium mesh fixation were performed. The choice of material and technique depends on the surgeon's preference, access and availability of materials. Regardless of which technique and material is used, and complete removal of the herniated tissue is fundamental to obtain satisfactory results.

Purpose. The aim of the present prospective study was to evaluate the effect of titanium mesh and concentrated growth factor (CGF) membranes in reconstructing severe labial bone defects during immediate implantation of anterior maxillary tooth. Methods. Patients with severe defects presenting on the anterior labial bone plate of maxillary were enrolled in this study. During immediate implantation, the titanium mesh was used to maintain the space of bone graft, collagen membrane, and xenograft bone that were used to guide bone regeneration (GBR). Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to measure the height and the labial bone thickness around the implant at the time of the second stage surgery, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after restoration. The pink esthetic score (PES) was used to evaluate the esthetic outcomes after restoration. Results. 18 patients were enrolled in this study. The survival rate of implants was 100%, and no complication was observed, except for 1 case of titanium mesh exposure which did not affect osteogenesis. In the second stage of surgery, the labial bone was completely reconstructed, and the top of the implant was covered with a small amount of new bone. The thickness of the labial bone was 3.01 mm (±0.23), 2.96 mm (±0.21), 2.93 mm (±0.19), and 2.92 mm (±0.16) at the time of the second stage surgery, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after restoration, respectively. The height of the marginal bone around implants was above the top of implant at the time of the second stage surgery and then reduced 0.72 mm (±0.07), 0.91 mm (±0.08), and 0.90 mm (±0.07) at the time point of 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after restoration, respectively. The changes of bone thickness and height were statistically significant within one year, but stable after one year. The PES values showed the same tendency. Conclusions. With the limitation of the present prospective study, the combination of titanium mesh and CGF membrane could provide space maintenance for bone augmentation of alveolar bone defects and improve the bone regeneration in patients with severe labial bone defect when immediate implant of anterior maxillary.

Aim. Comparative assessment of the psychological profile in patients with liver echinococcosis with small sized cysts while diagnosing and treating the disease.Methods. A shortened version of the Minnesota multidimensional personality questionnaire MMPI (Mini-Mult) and Personal Questionnaire of the Bekhterev Institute (PQBI) were used. 142 patients with liver echinococcosis and cyst size not exceeding 40 mm were tested at the initial diagnosis and one year after the treatment initiation.Results.Test results support the overall suggestion that psychological profile of the patients is not associated with the features of the disease. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (rS) between indicators of psychological profile and some clinical data (cyst size, location, number of cysts), as well as the age and sex characteristics of the patient was not statistically significant (p >0.1), or revealed only weak correlation (rsConclusion. The most favorable psychological pattern is formed when choosing active treatment approach. Conservative management and postponed treatment is probably an additional stressful factor for patients.
