Abstract With the increasing globalization and expansion of the people’s activities, distance learning is getting wide attention. Distance learning is not a computer aided education system alone. What is important is that collaboration over the network is a prerequisite for that, so that the technology developed there will be easily utilized for distance manufacturing and other collaborative activities over the network. When we come to think of integrating design and manufacturing over the network, the problem of skill comes up. Skill plays a very important role in manufacturing. But most of the systems developed so far have been focusing their chief attention toward how rigously they can represent design and manufacturing knowledge and experience in terms of symbols, and non-symbolic approaches are still few. It is believed that motion occupies a large portion of skills, but the present systems being such, and in additon, such media as TV, video, etc are one way from a teacher to a student so that it is still very difficult to learn skills over the network, since skill learning requires much interactive processes. Otherwise, students find it very difficult what part of the model motion they should concentrate their focuses. If a teacher can edit the motion of a student and a student can watch how his or her motion is edited, the student will understand more easily what is wrong with his or her motion., and can identify where his or her attention should be focused. Based on this idea, we have developed a preliminary system for distance learning of skills to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

This paper proposes a categorical foundation for integrating various types of manufacturing knowledge in manufacturing systems. The composing procedures of overall system can be explained by pushout of category theory. The purpose of this paper is to resolve the issue involves in sharing and coordination for modeling knowledge application in distributed manufacturing systems. We will propose a method for modeling discrete event system. The mathematical foundation lies in assuring that the constructed models have mathematical properties, e.g. consistency and completeness, and overcome the drawbacks of traditional function models, since it can show not only the static structure but also the dynamic semantics. The categorical notations and properties are expressed by an example of flexible assembly workcell.

Resumen:El objetivo principal del presente estudio es analizar los fa c t o res de aprendizaje y de competencias involucrados en la selección, introducción y puesta en práctica de tecnologías ambientales en las empresas filiales electrónicas de Tijuana. La pregunta central que se pretende responder en esta investigación es: ¿De qué manera la evolución de competencias productivas de las filiales transnacionales condiciona la introducción y puesta en marcha de tecnologías ambientales? En virtud de que la industria maquiladora de exportación electrónica en Tijuana ha experimentado diferentes fases de evolución productiva, la hipótesis de este documento establece que la capacidad, habilidad y necesidad de incorporar tecnologías ambientales se encuentra asociada con el nivel de conocimiento manufacturero y el rol de la empresa filial dentro de su red corporativa. Este trabajo muestra algunos resultados del proyecto de investigación del mismo título, desarrollado entre los meses de enero y agosto de 1998. El estudio abarcó una muestra de 12 empresas, que fueron seleccionadas y clasificadas en tres momentos de evolución productiva a partir de los trabajos de Alonso y Carrillo (1996) y Contreras et al. (1996). El análisis de trayectorias productivas en relación con el medio ambiente identifica los factores principales involucrados en la selección, introducción y aplicación de tecnologías ambientales, con los cuales enriquecemos el contexto de decisiones productivas y ambientales propuestas por nuestro modelo hipotético.Palabras clave: Electrónica, Industria maquiladora, Tijuana, Tecnologías ambientales, Conocimiento manufacturero. Abstract:The main objective of this study is to analyze the learning and competency factors involved in the selection, introduction, and implementation of environmental technologies in electronic plants from Tijuana. The central question addressed is as follows: In which way do the evolution of productive competencies of the transnational companies affect the introduction and implementation of environmental technologies? Given the fact that the maquiladora industry of electronic exportation in Tijuana has experienced different faces of productive evolution, the hypothesis of this document is that the cap a city, skill, and need to incorporate environmental technologies are associated to manufacturing knowledge level and the role of the subsidiary within its corporate network . We show some findings as a part of the research projectlabeled as this essay, which was carried out from January to August 1998.The study encompassed a twelve-plants sampling, selected and classified in three stage of productive evolution following Alonso y Carrillo (1996) and Contreras et al. (1996) . The analysis of productive trajectories identifies the mains factors involved in selecting, introducing and implementing environmental technologies. This allow to enrich the context of productive and environmental decision making proposed by our hypotetical model.Key words: Electronics, Export-oriented industry, Tijuana, Environmental technologies, Manufacture knowledge.

Abstract This paper addresses a need for information on nanoparticle emissions and related issues such as worker exposure, filtration efficiency, and dustiness. A survey has been conducted on the working conditions and safety measures used in thermal spray companies and the results compared to scientific literature and previous surveys. Responses to questions on matters of health and safety reveal a lack of information and awareness of the risks posed by the emissions of ultrafine particles generated by thermal spraying processes.

Abstract Knowledge graph networks powering web search and chatbot agents have shown immense popularity. This paper discusses the first steps towards building a knowledge graph for manufacturing services discoverability. Due to the lack of a unified widely adopted schema for structured data in the manufacturing services domain as well as the limitations of existing relational database schemas to represent manufacturing service definitions, there does not exist a unified schema that connects manufacturing resources service descriptions and actual manufacturing service business entities. This gap severely limits the automated discoverability of manufacturing service business organizations. This paper designs a knowledge graph covering over 8,000+ manufacturers, the manufacturing services they provide and corresponding linkage with manufacturing service definitions available from Wikidata. In addition, this work also proposes extensions to Schema.org to assist small business manufacturers to contain embedded search engine optimization (SEO) tags for search and discovery through web search engines. Such vocabulary extensions are critical to the rapid identification and real-time capability assessment particularly when the service providers themselves are responsible for updating tags. A wider scale enhancement of manufacturing specific vocabulary extensions to schema.org can tremendously benefit small and medium scale manufacturers. This paper concludes with the additional work that must be done for a comprehensive addition to manufacturing service graph that spans the entire manufacturing knowledge base.
