Aimed at the characteristic of the Software Defined Network (SDN), several green routing algorithms are proposed. However, there are many drawbacks consisted in the existing algorithms. Therefore, we propose a self-adaptive energy saving routing algorithm (LAR) which is based on residual bandwidth of links and SDN. The proposed algorithm makes the link utilization which is changing in real time as the link cost. It would obtain the topology information and link status to optimize and prune the topology for reducing the computing time of routing algorithm before selecting routing path. After a period of time, the incoming flows will automatically be gathered in heavily-loaded links. The links without traffic will be switched off while the whole network connectivity and QoS are guaranteed. Simulation results show that it is possible to reduce considerable energy consumption during off-peak hours and link energy saving can be up to 55%. And, the algorithm has the distinct advantage in terms of complexity and network performance comparing with related schemes.

Multi-hop networks, such as WSNs, become an object of increasing attention as an emerging technology which plays an important role for practical IoT applications. These multi-hop networks generally consist of mobile and small terminals with limited resources, which makes them vulnerable to various network status changes. Moreover, the limited nature of terminal resources available, especially in terms of battery capacity, is one of the most important issues to be addressed in order to prolong their operating time. In order to ensure efficient communications in such networks, much research has already been conducted, especially in the field of routing and transmission technologies. However, conventional approaches adopted in the routing field still suffer from the so-called energy hole problem, usually caused by unbalanced communication loads existing due to difficulties in adaptive route management. To address this issue, the present paper proposes a novel routing algorithm that utilizes ACO-inspired routing based on residual energy of terminals. Operational evaluation reveals its potential to ensure balanced energy consumption and to boost network performance.

The issue of WDM network traffic grooming has been a hot in the field of research. The implementation of traffic grooming technology can improve the utilization of wavelength channels, reducing the link delay and the blocking rate of the network, which to improve network resource utilization and optimize network performance. This article mainly studies all-optical network routing algorithm utilizing WDM technology to achieve the dynamic traffic grooming and propose a optimization grooming policy -HaffmanGroom (M) algorithms which based on SONET / WDM ring network. The most important feature of this algorithm is that the SONET / WDM ring network of multiple multicast request packet , with a minimum weight of the light path priority selection method, the flow of requests each group effectively optimize ease . The algorithm takes into account the impact of the link request factor and link hops to optimize the link selection. The simulation results show that under the conditions of factors and the number of hop a request fully consider the impact of these two factors to the link, and can achieve optimal link with the smallest weights for effective data transmission, improving resource utilization, reducing blocking rate in order to achieve the purpose of optimizing network performance.

Network lifetime is one of the most prominent barriers in deploying wireless sensor networks for large-scale applications because these networks employ sensors with nonrenewable scarce energy resources. Sensor nodes dissipate most of their energy in complex routing mechanisms. To cope with limited energy problem, we present EASARA, an energy aware simple ant routing algorithm based on ant colony optimization. Unlike most algorithms, EASARA strives to avoid low energy routes and optimizes the routing process through selection of least hop count path with more energy. It consists of three phases, that is, route discovery, forwarding node, and route selection. We have improved the route discovery procedure and mainly concentrate on energy efficient forwarding node and route selection, so that the network lifetime can be prolonged. The four possible cases of forwarding node and route selection are presented. The performance of EASARA is validated through simulation. Simulation results demonstrate the performance supremacy of EASARA over contemporary scheme in terms of various metrics.

Wireless sensor network is a new field of computer science and technology research. It has a very broad application prospects. In order to improve the network survival time, it is very important to design efficient energy-constrained routing protocols. In this paper, we studied the characteristics of wireless sensor networks, and analyzed the design criteria of sensor network routing algorithms. In view of the shortcomings of traditional algorithms, we proposed an energy-aware multi-path algorithm. When selecting a data transmission path, the energy-aware multi-path algorithm can avoid nodes with low energy levels. At the same time, it takes the remaining energy of the node and the number of hops as one of the measures of the path selection. The multi-path routing algorithm realized the low energy consumption of the data transmission path, thus effectively prolonging the network lifetime. Compared with the traditional algorithm, the results show that our method has high reliability and energy efficiency.
