Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs) have been used in many applications and powerful distributed systems. But the performance of WMSNs is suffering from the occurrence of energy holes. To improve the performance of the network and packet delivery ratio, a Voronoi-Ant colony based Routing (VoR-Ant-R) algorithm is proposed for WMSNs to discover the energy holes and finds the shortest path from the source to destination in the WMSNs even though faces some obstacles. The WMSNs are constructed using the Voronoi structure to bypass energy holes. After bypassing the energy hole in the path; an ACO is introduced to select a neighborhood node for data forwarding. This ACO constructs the shortest optimized path to enhance the performance of the WMSNs. The proposed work is experimentally compared with other algorithms such as IEEABR, EEABR, SC, and BEES. The simulation results show that VoR-Ant-R can increase energy efficiency, success rate, reduces energy consumption, and latency.

Wireless sensor networks are widely utilized. In the network of wireless sensors, the nodes of sensors normally disseminated arbitrarily are conditional on the method preferred to realize the sensor network. Primarily, the lifespan of a sensor node depends on the active node numbers along with the network connectivity. When a sensor node runs out of power, the sensor node dies too early, affecting network performance. Therefore, an energy hole will be formed with the network. To avoid the problem of energy holes, a number of rules are already proposed. This paper proposed a new method to resolve the problem of energy holes in wireless sensor networks and maximizes the useful life of the network through a different way of cluster head selection using asymmetrical clustering method. This paper proposed PE (probability enhancement) method for choosing the cluster head, which gives improved output compared to LEACH as well as PEGASIS protocol. The result of simulation is performed with MATLAB, and it appears that the projected scheme works better than the previous scheme.

AbstractWith huge cheap micro-sensing devices deployed, wireless sensor network (WSN) gathers information from the region and delivers it to the base station (BS) for further decision. The hotspot problem occurs when cluster head (CH) nearer to BS may die prematurely due to uneven energy depletion resulting in partitioning the network. To overcome the issue of hotspot or energy hole, unequal clustering is used where variable size clusters are formed. Motivated from the aforesaid discussion, we propose an enhanced fuzzy unequal clustering and routing protocol (E-FUCA) where vital parameters are considered during CH candidate selection, and intelligent decision using fuzzy logic (FL) is taken by non-CH nodes during the selection of their CH for the formation of clusters. To further extend the lifetime, we have used FL for the next-hop choice for efficient routing. We have conducted the simulation experiments for four scenarios and compared the propound protocol’s performance with recent similar protocols. The experimental results validate the improved performance of E-FUCA with its comparative in respect of better lifetime, protracted stability period, and enhanced average energy.

<p><span>In recent time, the applications' diversity of wireless sensor network (WSN) attracts many researchers. WSN comprises of many sensor nodes with limited battery power. Therefore, energy consumption should be controlled to the optimum. Clustering is an efficient solution for energy management in WSN, but clustering does not consider the sink node location. It will cause the energy hole problem in multi-hop routing. Energy hole problem was solved by unequal clustering. A review of various unequal clustering mechanisms is presented in this paper. The comparison between the various mechanisms was based on cluster head election process, cluster properties, simulation parameters and energy efficiency to highlight a more efficient and scalable unequal clustering algorithm for </span>WSN.</p>

The energy hole is a severe problem for underwater acoustic distributed networks in that it affects the normal operations of the network and shortens the network’s life span. To deal with this problem, a loop-free routing control technique is proposed in this paper. The classical shortest-path routing control method is used to generate multiple disjointed routing tables. The residual energy of the nodes and the changing information of the uplink/downlink matrix are added to the data frames for distribution. The source node specifies the routing path to transmit the data frames based on the changing information, and the relay nodes route the data frames strictly according to the routing path designated by the source node. Besides, the energy consumption of the relay node is saved by replying to the pseudo-ACK frame. Simulation experiments are implemented in four typical scenarios, and the results reflect that the proposed technique could extend the network’s life span by approximately 10% when compared to other mature techniques. Besides, it has no other negative effects on the normal operations of the network.
