The relevance of this issue is due to the fact that the events that began in the new Millennium in the global anti-corruption movement have further highlighted the important role of the fight against corruption in the business sector. A special role in combating corruption in the sphere at the global level is assigned to the Group of twenty — G20. In the course of the research, the author came to the conclusion that, quite positively, the functioning of the business sphere was affected by the adoption in November 12, 2010 in the city of In Seoul, the leaders of the G20 “Anti-corruption action Plan”, which for the first time openly called for a closer public-private partnership in the fight against corruption. Today, the G20 is a group of key countries with developed and emerging market economies. As major trading powers, the G20 has a special responsibility to prevent and combat corruption, create a legal and policy framework that promotes a clean business environment, and continue to assist countries in their efforts to build capacity to fight corruption. Today, the G20 sets a good example for many countries, international associations, and groups to fight corruption in business.

From within a “systemic approach” to deliberative democracy, political parties can be seen as crucial actors in facilitating deliberation, by playing epistemic, motivational, and justificatory functions that are central to the deliberative ideal. However, we point out that if we assume a purely outcome-oriented conception of the role of parties within a deliberative system, we risk losing sight of a central tenet of deliberative democracy and of its distinctive principle of legitimacy, namely, that citizens must be able to exercise critical reflection on the grounds of democratic decisions. We argue that parties have a special responsibility in making a deliberative system meet this requirement, and that such special role can be fulfilled only if parties’ programs, values, and strategies are shaped through intra-party deliberation. On the grounds of this discussion, we define a model of intra-party deliberation that is based on the principles of mutual acceptability, pluralism, and publicity.

Abstract Atticus Finch, protagonist of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and longtime hero of the American bar, is well known, but he is not well understood. This article unlocks the secret to his status as the most admired of fictional attorneys by demonstrating the role that his rhetoric plays in his exemplary fulfillment of the duties of an attorney to zealously represent clients, to serve as an officer of the court, and to act as a public citizen with a special responsibility for the quality of justice. Always using the simplest accurate wording, focusing on reason over emotion, and speaking in the same manner whether in private or in public, Atticus’s rhetoric exemplifies the ancient Roman style known by students of rhetoric as “Attic.” Using this style to navigate the potential for conflict among his duties, Atticus reveals the power, the elegance, and the ethical necessity of Attic rhetoric. Connecting Atticus’s name to the Attic style of rhetoric for the first time, this article advances several scholarly debates by demonstrating the mutual compatibility of the duties imposed by the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and proffering a powerful tool to attorneys seeking to practice or to teach improved ethical conduct.

It seems inherent in the nature of contemporary artist’s book production to continue to question the context for the genre in contemporary art practice, notwithstanding the medium’s potential for dissemination via mass production and an unquestionable advantage of portability for distribution. Artists, curators and editors operating in this sector look to create contexts for books in a variety of imaginative ways, through exhibition, commission, installations, performance and, of course as documentation. Broadening the discussion of the idea of the book within contemporary art practice, this paper examines the presence and role of book works within the context of the art biennale, in particular the Venice Art Biennale of which the 58th iteration (2019) is entitled ‘May You Live In Interesting Times’ and curated by Ralph Rugoff, with an overview of the independent International cultural offerings and the function of the ‘Book Pavilion’. Venetian museums and institutions continue to present vibrant diverse works within the arena of large-scale exhibitions, recognising the position that the book occupies in the history of the city. This year, the appearance for the first time, of ‘Book Biennale’, opens up a new and interesting dialogue, taking the measure of how the book is being promoted and its particular function for visual communication within the arts in Venice and beyond.

This paper examines the first publicly documented western encounter with the ancient city of Palmyra as an archaeological site. This encounter was achieved in the late seventeenth century by a group of British merchants, who reached Palmyra and made drawings and reports of its ruins. The reports were then published in Philosophical Transactions in the mid 1690s. This paper points to the ways in which such accounts came into being, as well as how the city was described and publicly communicated for the first time in Philosophical Transactions . These articles had a great impact throughout the following centuries as a reference for the study of Palmyra. This paper therefore also stresses the pivotal role of Philosophical Transactions for the production and dissemination of Palmyra's archaeological legacy, as well as for the development of early modern archaeology within the early Royal Society.

This paper examines the challenges that planners face if industry is to survive and thrive in a growing ‘post-industrial’ city. It examines London, where the difference between the value of land for residential and industrial use, and the pressure to address the housing crisis, is leading to the rapid loss of industrial land and premises. The paper first explores the role of industry in a high-value city such as London, arguing that trends in manufacturing in advanced economies are increasing the benefit for firms of an urban location, whilst at the same time, cities continue to need industry if they are to be economically and socially resilient, sustainable and vibrant. The paper then explores current approaches to planning for industry in London, identifying impacts of a policy framework that anticipates and plans for its decline. Finally, it focuses on the question of how to plan for a productive and inclusive city: we explore the arguments in favour of integrating industry into the urban fabric as well as the benefits of separating land uses and retaining employment land designations, and reveal how urbanists are divided. We argue that if London is to continue to prosper, and meet the needs of all Londoners, then we need to strategically and proactively plan for industry in the city, to experiment with innovative ways of integrating it with other city uses, whilst protecting land for industry, where required. We put forward a critical research agenda to effectively meet this challenge in the future.

Most Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) in Mexico have implemented ambitious tutoring programs since 2000 to face, among others, the problems of failing, dropping out and low terminal efficiency, as well as to contribute to the integral formation of students. The implementation of these programs has not been easy and the results obtained so far have been limited. One of the challenges to face is the training of teachers so that they can perform the role of tutors. In the present text, the results of a training proposal for tutors are analyzed following the principles of the Model for the Development and Evaluation of Academic Competencies (M-DECA), which seeks, from the reflection and self-evaluation of the participants, the rethinking of the Tutorial Action Plans (TAP) in a teacher training school for basic education in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. The program was offered in combined environments with the support of the Moodle platform, promoting the discussion and argumentation of the participants. The results show the awareness of the tutors about their role and the need to have better skills and possible ways to improve their tutorial action plan.

Waste amounts increased rapidly with economic growth. Not all of the waste generated are collected by municipalities due to their ‘limited’ capacity. Most of the formal waste collection are initiated, managed and operated by community (role of RTs/RWs). Almost of the cities in Indonesia rely on landfilling technology to dispose their waste collected. Land for new waste disposal sites for MSW is becoming difficult. Most of the landfilling process is open dumping. Improvement of waste management is a key focus of the strategy. Some cities may have set a goal of reducing the amount of waste recovery and waste disposed off at the final disposal site in a target year.To achieve this, the city needs to measure based on an action plan that includes both community-based activities and the city government’s efforts to increase waste collection, and to introduce waste separation at home and operation of an intermediate treatment facility for waste reduction. The focus of the strategy should be: 1.How to increase the waste collection rate and services and to improve its quality2.How to increase the waste recovery and to improve the quality of recyclable materials3.How to reduce the uncontrolled waste (and its ‘derivatives’) flows into environment
