Rural tourism, if strategically developed and managed, can make a substantial positive contribution towards the prosperity of the rural community. The management of the community group as primary stakeholders within a rural tourism development context is essential to enhance the rural collective economy of a region, augmenting the rural appearance, strengthening the rural civilisation construction, reducing the urban-rural gap, and building a cohesive and harmonious community. The primary objective is to examine the community group’s level of involvement in rural tourism development programmes; as well as to establish their level of participation in rural tourism development activities. A survey was undertaken to obtain the quantitative data needed from the community group. The findings show that the involvement of the community group in the decision-making process will assist in the effective implementation of projects without delays and contribute towards the sustainable development of rural tourism. The management of sustainable rural tourism development therefore necessitates that the needs of the community group are considered in the decision-making process and their participation therein. Participation facilitates rational cooperation, strengthens partnerships, builds trust and credibility, empowers the community group, and therefore makes management more effective.

Rural tourism development in contemporary times is viewed with a participatory approach lens thus allowing local residents to benefit. This study assessed tourism development in Karimenga, a community in the West Mamprusi District with a facility dubbed the “Greenhouse Tourism Project”. It also assessed the perception of residents on their participation in tourism and equally explored the impact of tourism development in the community. Employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches, data were sourced from a sample of 112 residents through questionnaire administration and In-depth Interview (IDI) schedules. The study revealed that the majority of the residents (67%) were involved in tourism decision making. It is recommended that benefits from tourism be made to ‘spiral' the community to reach most households through loans granted by the assembly for handicraft work to enhance souvenir trade.

Community based Tourism paradigm as a concept of alternative tourism has been able to provide distribution to community either in welfare or empowerment towards sustainable tourism. In relation to this paradigm, this study was conducted to analyze the impacts of rural tourism development in Pinge village. Pinge is one of the village in Tabanan- Bali which has been developed to be rural tourism destination.The approach used in this research was qualitative descriptive. Technique of collecting data was through interviewing with community leader and conducting field observations in order to find out positive and negative impacts to economy, socio cultural and environment to this village. The researcher found that the development of rural tourism provides positive and negative impacts to society in Pinge. From the result of data collection, there were found that economy of society was improved, the culture was preserved, and the environment was arranged well. The result of this study is expected to be a reference study in rural tourism development in Pinge village through controlling the negative impacts from this tourism destination development.

Farmers Participation Model in Agrowisata Development in Kerta Village,Payangan District, Gianyar Regency. The model of farmer participation in agro-tourism development in Kerta Village,Payangan District, Gianyar Regency is an effort to find out the model of farmerparticipation and farmer participation level in agro-tourism development. The researchlocation is in Kerta Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency which is an agro areaof Gianyar Botanical Garden. The method of analysis used is descriptive qualitative.The results showed that the farmers participation model is as follows. (a) Aspects ofmindset; farmers are aware of the potential that exists in Kerta Village that can bedeveloped as agro-tourism. (b) Social aspects; farmers' participation in social aspectssuch as participating in garden arrangement, diversification of commodity diversity,there is also agreement or cooperation between farmer society to sacrifice their land foragro-tourism such as for road and treking. (c) Aspects of artifacts / possessions; peasantcommunity participation in view of the material aspects include the garden andagricultural products, huts / huts for rest, parking lots and public toilets. Farmersparticipation rate is as follows. (a) Manipulation; done by changing the attractiveness ofthe attraction of organic citrus quotes. (b) Dissemination of information; the peasantcommunity conveys information to the general public through word of mouth, socialmedia, billboards installation. (c) Decision-making; demonstrated by their activengrembug to reach joint decisions and participate in village deliberations. (d) Buildingagreements; farmers mutually respect opinion in decision-making to build a deal basedon "Tri Sakti". Suggestion for farmer community to keep participating for agrotourismdevelopment in Kerta Village, considering the enormous potential of agriculture to bedeveloped into agro-tourism area. Through the model of farmer participation in agrotourismdevelopment in Kerta Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency, can beused as a reference for agro-tourism development in other regions.

Purpose This paper aims to address lack in destination leadership and to propose a new typology of approaches. Frequently, rural tourism is suggested as a remedy that should enhance the local economy, create new jobs, strengthen the regional identity and finance the infrastructure. Design/methodology/approach Case study analysis shows that regions, communities, tourism organizations and managers use different strategies to strengthen their tourism offers or to develop new ones. The paper analyzes different development approaches among destinations and discusses their respective leadership structure. Findings The typology of tourism development models makes the different development options transparent and easy to understand. This may aid a community to support tourism development with spatial planning and avoid conflicts with other forms of land uses. Overall, leadership for rural tourism development should lead to a strategic cooperation between tourism businesses and other organizations based on a commitment to destination coherence. Research limitations/implications The chosen research approach is based on the analysis of Central European case studies. Therefore, researchers of other geographical backgrounds are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further. Practical implications The presented typology illustrated four distinct options of coherent development strategies, which can support communities/regions to find a long-term decision frame. Originality/value The presented typology facilitates collaborative planning, helps operationalize rural tourism development policies and provides the foundation for spatial planning, all of which furthers the linkages between tourism and other sectors in the rural economy.
