This work deals with the possibility of elimination of common occuring mycotoxins deoxynivalenol (DON) and its plant metabolite deoxynivalenol-3-glucoside (D3G) from malting barley and malt by treatment of low-temperature plasma discharge. Barley seed was treated with a fungicide, entomopathogenic and mycoparasitic fungi and the low-temperature plasma discharge of Gliding Arc type, or their combination. Samples of harvested barley were treated with plasma discharge and analyzed for presence of mycotoxins. Only low DON and D3G concentration levels were detected (maximal values were 48.2 µg/kg and 30.2 µg/kg for DON and D3G, resp.), after plasma treatment mycotoxin content decreased onto the levels near limit of quantification. The results suggest that low-temperature Gliding Arc plasma discharge may contribute to reduction of the content of the mycotoxins in harvested barley grains.

Sterilization of municipal waste for a raw material for the production of refuse-derived fuel and to protect surface and ground waters against biological contamination during transfer and storage creates a lot of problems. This paper evaluates the antimicrobial potential of non-equilibrium plasma in relation to the selected groups of microorganisms found in humid waste. The proposed research is to determine whether mixed municipal waste used for the production of alternative fuels can be sterilized effectively using low-temperature plasma generated in a gliding arc discharge reactor in order to prevent water contamination and health risk for working staff. This work assesses whether plasma treatment of raw materials in several process variants effectively eliminates or reduces the number of selected groups of microorganisms living in mixed municipal waste. The presence of vegetative bacteria and endospores, mold fungi, actinobacteria Escherichia coli, and facultative pathogens, i.e., Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Enterococcus faecalis and Clostridium perfringens in the tested material was microbiologically analyzed. It was found that the plasma treatment differently contributes to the elimination of various kinds of microorganisms in the analyzed raw materials. The effectiveness of sterilization depended mainly on the time of raw materials contact with low-temperature plasma. The results are very promising and require further research to optimize the proposed hygienization process.

Low temperature plasma, compared to liquid phase treatment, can effectively overcome the environment pollution, high energy loss and high cost as its high activity. The low temperature plasma, which is not only fairly friendly to the environment but also of less resource consumption, also can realize the cleaning, activating and grafting treatment for materials surface. Based on the numerical model of CRFHCP (Capacitive Radio Frequency Hollow Cathode Plasma) hollow cathode plasma discharge, the key point to affect plasma discharge was analyzed and the morphology of PP film before and after hollow cathode plasma discharge was analyzed. The results showed that the structure of plasma hollow cathode discharge can effectively improved the chemical behaviors of PP film.

The paper refers to utilization of low temperature plasma discharge in air on polypropylene fibres. Such fibres have been tested in concrete as reinforcement. The effect has been tested by restrain ring test. The experiment proved positive correlation between time of exposure and cracks suppression. The effect is considered as improved cohesion of polymer fibres with cement matrix.
