<p class="abstrak">Critical thinking is one of the higher order thinking skills that high school students must have. Grade 10-MIA students in ‘FANÓS’ School Kupang had difficulties improving their critical thinking skills. The researcher used the Giving Questions and Getting Answers method to help these students improve their critical thinking skills. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was any improvement in students’ critical thinking skills when the Giving Questions and Getting Answerss method was implemented in their school. This research method used Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Kemmis and McTaggart’s model in two cycles. The subjects consisted of 30 Grade 10-MIA students. The research instruments were check-list observation sheet, students’ questionnaire, mentor’s interview sheet, post-test sheet with its rubric, mentor’s observation sheet and open observation sheet. The result was analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative. The results showed that Giving Questions and Getting Answers could improve Grade 10-MIA students’ critical thinking skills when explaining the functions of the two papers, explaining the lesson, group discussion, asking questions from the 1st paper, giving conclusions from the 2nd paper and giving a post-test.</p><p><strong><span id="result_box" lang="en"><span title="-test.">BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK:</span></span> </strong>Berpikir kritis adalah salah satu keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi yang dimiliki siswa SMA. Siswa kelas X-MIA di Sekolah 'FANÓS' Kupang mengalami kesulitan dalam memperbaiki kemampuan berpikir kritis mereka. Peneliti menggunakan metode Pemberian Pertanyaan dan Mendapatkan Jawaban untuk membantu siswa kelas X-MIA untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis mereka. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbaikan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa atau tidak dan untuk mengetahui bagaimana cara memberikan pertanyaan dan mendapatkan jawaban diimplementasikan di Sekolah FANÓS Kupang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis dan McTaggart. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas X-MIA yang terdiri dari 30 siswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Instrumen penelitiannya adalah lembar observasi daftar periksa, kuesioner siswa, lembar wawancara mentor, lembar <em>post-test</em> dengan rubriknya, lembar observasi mentor dan lembar observasi terbuka. Hasilnya dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah Memberikan Pertanyaan dan Mendapatkan Jawaban dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas X-MIA dan diimplementasikan dengan menjelaskan fungsi kedua makalah tersebut, menjelaskan pelajaran, diskusi kelompok, mengajukan pertanyaan dari makalah pertama, pemberian kesimpulan dari kertas ke-2 dan memberikan <em>post-test</em>.</p>

The aim of this study was to investigate a SETS (Science, environment, technology) based-learning approach for junior high school students on how well SETS based-learning improves thinking skill on the waste management. This study was conducted to 20 students of 7th grade. Data collection were employed by class observation (carried out pre and post test), essay analysis (based on several cognitive indicators such as analyze, evaluate, and create), and learning activities regarding environmental issues. The results showed that SETS based-learning could positively improve students critical thinking in terms of learning process and performance in creativity, motivation, critical thinking. If the number of subjects is increase, SETS based-learning strategy could be more challenging.

Tujuan penelitian ini mengembangkan produk berupa Game ritual tumpe untuk peserta didik SMP Kelas VII. Penelitian menggunakan metode research and developement (R & D) yang dikembangkan oleh Thiagarajan. Penelitian mengacu pada model 4D: define (mendefinisikan), design (mendesain), develop (mengembangkan) dan disseminate (menyebarluaskan). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan valid atau memenuhi kriteria kelayakan. Kategori kelayakan yang diperoleh dari ahli media dan juga guru adalah sangat valid. Implementasi media pembelajaran di dalam kelas dapat meningkatkan partisipasi aktif peserta didik sehingga berdampak pada peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Jenis penelitian menggunakan quasi eksperimen, menggunakan kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Gain score yang diperoleh pada saat pretest dan posttes pada kelas eksperimen menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan. Nilai gain score kelas eksperimen diperoleh 0,67 dan kelas kontrol 0,54 dengan kategori sedang. Efektivitas pembelajaran dilakukan dengan uji Manova dengan perolehan nilai sig. sebesar 0.000 (<0.05). Kondisi tersebut menunjukkan bahwa media yang dikembangkan valid, praktis dan efektif digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran sains di kelas VII SMP. Develop critical thinking skills with tumpe ritual games AbstractThe aim of this study was to develop product in the form of a Tumpe Ritual Game for Class VII junior high school students. The research used the research and developement (R & D) method developed by Thiagarajan. The research refers to the 4D model: define, design, develop and disseminate. The result of the study indicates that learning media developed is valid or meet the eligibility criteria. The feasibility category obtained from media experts and also the teacher is highly valid. The implementation of learning media in the classroom can increase students' active participation so that it has an impact on improving critical thinking skill. This type of research uses quasi-experimental, using the control class and the experimental class. Gain scores obtained at the pre-test and post-test in the experimental class showed significant differences. The  gain score of experimental class was 0.67 and the control class was 0.54 with the medium category. The effectiveness of learning was done by Manova test with the acquisition of sig values. amounting to 0,000 (<0.05). These condition indicated that the media developed was valid, practical and effective to be used in the process of learning science in class VII SMP.

<p class="16">Covid-19 spurs teachers to carry out online learning. This study aimed to analyze the improvement of students' critical thinking skills through online learning based on Android-based PhET Simulation. This research was Quasi-Experimental using one group pre-test and post-test design involving 27 students of class VIII who program science subjects at MTs Alif Laam Miim Surabaya, Indonesia. The research instrument used critical thinking skills tests that have met valid and reliable requirements. Before and after learning activities, students were given a pre-test and a post-test. The data collected was analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results showed that there was an increase in students' critical thinking skills with an average N-gain of 0.57, in the medium category. The highest N-gain was achieved in the "interpretation" indicator, which is 0.83 in the high category and the lowest in the "analysis" indicator, which is 0.39 in the moderate category. This study concluded that learning science by using an Android-based PhET Simulation can improve the critical thinking skills of junior high school students.</p>

Abstract—This study aims to analyze students' scientific critical thinking skills through learning with edmodo-based blended learning models. This study is Pre-Experimental using one group pre-test post-test design involving 35 class VIII students at Public Junior High School 10 Jember, Indonesia. The instru-ments used were teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, scientific critical thinking skills assessment sheets, and student motivation sheets. Before and after learning activity, students are given the same initial test (pre-test) and final test (post-test). The collected data was analyzed by quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that: (1) students are motivated in classical learning by 78.13% with motivated criteria. The highest value is on the likes and active indicators using Edmodo, which is equal to 88.47% and the lowest value on the indicator of activity asks questions and opinions at edmodo, which is equal to 70.93%; and (2) there is an increase in scientific critical thinking skills of students with a mean n-gain of .32, with the criteria being moderate. The highest value is achieved on the indicator of fact analysis, which is equal to .55 and the lowest value on the indicators of delivery of argumentation, which is equal to .19. The conclusion of this study is that science learning with an edmodo-based blended learning model can motivate learning and improve scientific critical thinking skills of junior high school students.

This study is aimed to determine the effectiveness of predict observe explain (POE) model with PhET to improve  critical thinking skills of senior high school students. The sample used was the grade eleven students of SMA N 18 Surabaya consist of 60 students. This type of research was pre-experimental with one group pre-test post-test design. Research data is obtained from the result of pre-test and post-test of  students' critical thinking skills and responses after learning activity. Data analysis techniques used N-gain and Wilcoxon test. The result of the study shows that the score of students' critical thinking skills in grade eleven of Group 1 and Group 2 increase after the implementation of predict observe explain (POE) learning model with PhET and both of them present positive responses to the learning component and show a good interest. Based on the data analysis result, it can be concluded that predict observe explain (POE) model with PhET is effective to use to improve the critical thinking skills of senior high school students.

Critical Thinking Skills (CTS) are the crucial skills required by nowadays generation in dealing with the 21st Century challenges. Yet, the researches focused on higher order thinking skills are still limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Alas Kandung-based science learning tools on students’ CTS. The research design was pretest and post-test with non-equivalent control group. The treatment given in experimental class was the implementation of Alas Kandung-based science learning tools, while the control class was taught using common method used by the teachers.  The results of this study indicated that the students’ CTS in experimental class was significantly higher than the control class [F(1,47) = 11.672, p = 0.001]. In conclusion, the Alas Kandung-based science learning tools is effective in improving students’ CTS.

In 21st century learning, critical thinking skills are the main choice that must be mastered by students. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of local wisdom-based science teaching materials in improving junior high school students’ critical thinking skills. Most science teachers still apply teacher-centered learning, so students tend to be passive. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study was conducted in the even semester of the 2019/2020 school year. The subjects of the research were grade VII students. Data collection techniques and instruments in the form of tests that include indicators of critical thinking skills. Data analysis used homogeneity test, Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test, independent sample t-test, and n-gain score. The results of the independent sample t-test are sig. (2-tailed) = 0,000<sig. α = 0.05. Students’ critical thinking skills in the experimental class were higher (N-gain score = 39.09%) than in the control class (N-gain score = 12.03%). Based on the study results, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence on the application of local wisdom-based teaching materials in improving the critical thinking skills of middle school students in the moderate category.
