This study aims to investigate the effect of leadership and organizational culture on organizational effectiveness of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). In the study, after a comprehensive literature review, an empirical study by means of a survey questionnaire has been conducted to find out the effect of leadership and organizational culture on effectiveness. In the study, organizational culture is conceptualized as motivational climate within the organization, the atmosphere that relies on trust and confidence and willingness of members to take responsibility and the leadership is analyzed in terms of being democratic, respecting others, being participative in decision making and taking risks when necessary. The effectiveness of NGOs refers to the achievement of the previously set objectives, using benchmarking as an indicator, and diversifying the sources of revenue. The results obtained from the survey show that organizational culture and leadership both have positive effects on effectiveness of NGOs.

This paper describes a study of the use of prototyping approaches in information systems (IS) development. It reports a comprehensive literature review of prototyping from which we developed a taxonomy of prototyping practice. This analysis guided an empirical study which has collected data on IS practitioners’ formulations of the current experience of prototyping in UK IS development organizations. These formulations are compared with data collected in a number of case studies of prototyping projects.

Abstract The aims of this chapter are: (i) to identify the travel constraints of low-income families with children with disabilities (LIFWCD); (ii) to characterize the tourism experience of these families; (iii) to identify the benefits obtained from family trips; and (iv) to identify guidelines to develop social tourism programmes to promote the access of this market to tourism activities. To accomplish these aims, this chapter encompasses a literature review regarding social tourism initiatives, travel constraints and tourism experiences of LIFWCD and an empirical study. This empirical study was carried out with a group of Portuguese LIFWCD, specifically with parents, and with a group of social organizations that provide support to these families. The experience of the parents and their interpretation of their children's experiences are analysed, given their relevance in the travel decision-making process and during the trip.

This paper argues that a combination of entrepreneurship and innovation is a crucial factor for the long-term sustainability of e-commerce and e-businesses. Entrepreneurship and innovation are positively related to each other and interact to help an organization to flourish. The study takes an integrative approach to exploring the synergies between entrepreneurship and innovation and to analysing the factors that foster an interaction between the two. Case studies of entrepreneurial and innovative dot.com companies were conducted to complement a comprehensive literature review of entrepreneurship and innovation. This empirical study contributes to a better understanding of the existing theories and practices of entrepreneurship and innovation in organizations.

Claims and disputes occur frequently in the construction industry between different contracting parties, mainly the owner, the designer and the contractor. Consequently, valuable time and a significant amount of money are lost. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) construction industry, one of the most vibrant sectors globally, is experiencing a high level of construction disputes and claims. This paper aims to identify and assess the major causes of disputes in the UAE and weigh the effectiveness of the methods used for their avoidance and resolution. The sources of disputes, and their avoidance/resolution methods, were identified through a comprehensive literature review. A survey was then developed and sent to 150 construction professionals. Fifty-four responses were received and analyzed. The results show that the top five sources of disputes in the UAE are variations initiated by the owner, obtaining permit/approval from the municipality and other governmental authorities, material change and approval during the construction phase, the slowness of the owner in decision-making, and the short time available during the design phase. As for the avoidance and the resolution method, the most effective method was found to be negotiation.
