This study aims to determine the prevalence and to identify gastrointestinal protozoa in goats in Sub-district of Labang, Bangkalan Regency, Madura, Indonesia. The research was conducted in April - July 2019 with 100 samples of goat’s stool. Examination was done in the laboratory of Parasitology in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University using direct smear, sedimentation and flotation methods. The result showed that goats in Labang, Bangkalan Regency were infected by protozoa Eimeria sp. and Blastocystis sp. and the prevalence was 84%. There were no significant differences in the age and sex of goats (p > 0.05).

This study aims to determine the prevalence and species of protozoa that infect the digestive tract of goats in Kwanyar Sub-District, Bangkalan District. This study was conducted in June-July 2019 with 100 samples of stool examination in the laboratory of the Division of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. On examination found two types of protozoa, which were: Eimeria sp and Blastocystis sp. The results of this study showed the prevalence of 48% digestive tract protozoa. The results of statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test showed significant differences in age under one year and over one year in goats (p <0.05).

This study aims to determine the prevalence and species of endoparasite that infect the digestive tract of goats in Ujungpangkah Sub-District, Gresik District. This study was conducted in February-March 2021 with 100 samples of goat’s stool. Sample examination was conducted in the laboratory of the Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. In fecal examination found four types of endoparasites, which were: Eimeria sp. 62%, Blastocystis sp. 5%, Haemonchus sp. 4%, Strongyloides sp. 2% and mixed infection prevalence was 3%. This study showed a prevalence of 76% digestive tract endoparasite. The Chi-Square test showed significant differences (p <0.05) between groups of goats aged under one year (57%) and over one year (43%).

The study aimed at identifying the types of parasites that infect catfish as well as to determine the prevalence of the parasite species. A total of 30 catfish were collected using nets then examined at Parasitology Laboratory, Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh. Ectoparasites examination was carried out by directly observed the outer surface of fish body and by mucus smear examination microscopically. While endoparasites examination was done by observation on the inner surface of the digestive tract. The study revealed that five types of parasites infected catfish were Dactylogyrus (43.33%), Gyrodactylus (20%), Tricodina (3.33%), Camallanus sp (3.33%), and unidentified worm (3.33%). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: catfish, ectoparasite, endoparasite

Introduction: Dientamoeba fragilis, an intestinal trichomonad, occurs in humans with and without gastrointestinal symptoms. Its presence was investigated in individuals referred to Milad Hospital, Tehran. Methodology: In a cross-sectional study, three time-separated fecal samples were collected from 200 participants from March through June 2011. Specimens were examined using traditional techniques for detecting D. fragilis and other gastrointestinal parasites: direct smear, culture, formalin-ether concentration, and iron-hematoxylin staining. The presence of D. fragilis was determined using PCR assays targeting 5.8S rRNA or small subunit ribosomal RNA. Results: Dientamoeba fragilis, Blastocystis sp., Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba coli, and Iodamoeba butschlii were detected by one or more traditional and molecular methods, with an overall prevalence of 56.5%. Dientamoeba was not detected by direct smear or formalin-ether concentration but was identified in 1% and 5% of cases by culture and iron-hematoxylin staining, respectively. PCR amplification of SSU rRNA and 5.8S rRNA genes diagnosed D. fragilis in 6% and 13.5%, respectively. Prevalence of D. fragilis was unrelated to participant gender, age, or gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusions: This is the first report of molecular assays to screen for D. fragilis in Iran. The frequent finding of D. fragilis via fecal analysis indicated the need to include this parasite in routine stool examination in diagnostic laboratories. As the length of amplification target correlates to the sensitivity of PCR, this assay targeting the D. fragilis 5.8S rRNA gene seems optimal for parasite detection and is recommended in combination with conventional microscopy for diagnosing intestinal parasites.

This work aimed to analyze the frequency of the main cardiopathies in dogs treated in the region of Bauru, SP, Brazil. A population of 466 dogs (285 females and 181 males) referred to a veterinary cardiology center from January 1st, 2014 to July 31st, 2015 was evaluated by echocardiographic examination. Factors such as race, age and sex were considered. Valvular disease was the most prevalent heart condition, followed by pulmonary hypertension. The increase in complementary diagnostic methods in the clinical practice has increased the possibility of diagnosis of cardiopathies in veterinary medicine.

A total of 100 animals were examined during the period of beginning of September - 2010 till the end of March 2011 at dept of Microbiology college of Veterinary Medicine Baghdad University Baghdad Iraq. These animals include 50 cow and 50 sheep. Hairs and scales were submitted to direct KOH mount smear and culture on modified Sabouraud's Dextrose agar medium The direct smear was positive in 40 ( 80%) for both cows and sheep while the growth of dermatophyte was positive in 35 ( 70%) and 38 ( 76%) for cows and sheep respectively. Species identification revealed the presence of Trichophyton rubrum ( 19 isolates ) Trichophyton verrucosum ( 10 isolates ) Trichophyton mentagrophytes ( 5 isolates ) and Microsporum canis ( one isolate ) in cow while Trichophyton rubrum (22 isolates) Trichophyton verrucosum ( 2 isolates ) and Trichophyton mentagrophytes ( 14 isolates) was recorded in sheep.

This study aims to determine the prevalence and intensity of helminthiasis in gastrointestinal tract of goat at Kwanyar Sub-District, Bangkalan District. The study was conducted in August-October 2018 with 100 samples of stool examination in the laboratory of Helmintology, Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. The results were found various worm eggs such as Oesophagustomum sp., Strongyloides sp., Haemonchus sp., Trichuris sp., and Chabertia sp. Moreover, the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminthiasis was recorded at 100%. In addition, the calculation of worm eggs per gram fecal sample was obtained the number of infecting eggs ranges from 0-500 and the categorized as mild degree of infection. The results of statistical analysis using Chi-Square test was showed no significant differences in the intensity of infection in male and female goats (p>0.05). However, there was significant differences in the intensity of infection in goat between 0-12 months age and above 12 months age (p<0.05).

This study aims to determine the pentastomide parasite that infects the digestive tract of giant water lizards examined in Laboratory of Parasitology Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. In this study, three sample were found to be infected with pentastomide parasite in the lung. The phase found was adult phase pentastomide; it has pentastomide spermatheca which shows that this parasite is female.
