The rapid development of information and communication technologies, the expansion of international ties in the field of economy, science, culture and education have made foreign language knowledge one of the key components in a specialist’s professional competence. Foreign language in the university is transformed from simply discipline into a tool for obtaining professional information. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is one of the most expedient ways to successfully establish links between majoring disciplines, as well as effectively prepare a future specialist to conduct professional communication with colleagues in a foreign language, which determines the relevance of our work. The article describes the principles of students’ Content and Language Integrated Learning, their advantages and problems of implementation. The purpose of the article is to determine the impact of CLIL on improving students’ study of vocabulary and to find out if there is a difference between the progress in students’ using CLIL in classes and those who have relied on traditional methods. The study selected students who were trained in experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group actively used CLIL methods. The results showed that students in this experimental group demonstrate higher skill levels and higher communicative competence than their peers. However, in the process of using the CLIL methodology, both teachers and students faced a number of difficulties. The author concludes that CLIL has the potential to better understand professional content through foreign language learning. These results can be used by teachers, methodologists, researchers, and developers of educational programs.

Abstract Foreign language learners’ phraseological proficiency remains problematic, even at advanced levels (e.g., Meunier, 2012; Meunier & Granger, 2008; Siepmann, 2008). While the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) method is believed to facilitate foreign language learning by fostering input, interaction, and output, little attention has been paid to the phraseological competence of CLIL learners. The present study aims to fill this gap as it is framed within an interdisciplinary project on CLIL in Belgium and specifically focuses on the phrasicon, i.e. the phraseological lexicon, of 5th year French-speaking secondary school learners of English in immersive (CLIL) and non-immersive (NON-CLIL) settings. The paper reports on (1) an analysis of the variety/range of the phrasicon and (2) an overview of phraseological accuracy. The analyses are based on a corpus of written productions of 180 learners. The findings of this study indicate higher frequency, range and accuracy in the phrasicon of CLIL learners.

Evaluation plays a significant part in the instruction and learning. In the course of education’sdevelopment, a great number of evaluation methods have already been proposed by scholars. However, most of them always focus on the whole evaluation system or those researches are only suitable for the majority of students. And studies relevant to the evaluation method of the under achievers in the foreign language learning are very little. This paper is to overview evaluation of language learning and study the evaluation which is academically and psychologically beneficial to under achievers’ College E nglish learning.

Learning a foreign language takes time and effort. In the last few years, too much emphasis has been placed on oral communication skills and English teachers make their students speak English without paying enough attention to grammatical accuracy. As a result, while students’ ability in terms of fluency has improved, they often cannot communicate appropriately in English due to a lack of grammatical knowledge. The aim of the study was to explore the potential of Precision Teaching software developed for the improvement of English grammar rules. Two groups were compared, one having used the software and the other following a traditional textbook-based approach. The students who used the software showed significantly higher learning scores than students who did not. In addition, after using the software students show increased scores in some cognitive abilities that are related to foreign language learning.

The study of vocabulary is essential in learning a second language. The traditional way of foreign language learning only allows students to learn what the teacher chooses to teach. Knowledge is force-fed by the teacher to the students, but this way cannot meet the needs of the students and society. The development of multimedia technology meets the demands for new ways of teaching language. The purpose of this study is to test whether it is effective to use computer-assisted instruction (CAI) in individualized learning and whether multimedia CAI techniques can improve vocabulary learning and memory. According to analysis of the experimental data, CAI-supported vocabulary learning is more effective than traditional methods. The results show that, through CAI, knowledge can be learned faster and retained longer in the students’ memory.

The issue concerning popularisation and relevance of foreign language learning and teaching has provoked a deep interest to analyse and study the world experience of modern methods and approaches to teaching a foreign language which provide positive results. The article considers the approach of content and language integrated learning (CLIL) and peculiarities of its implementation in different countries. A brief analysis of the CLIL approach formation, the preconditions and sources of its establishments are represented. Moreover, the basic difference between CLIL and previous communicative approaches is illustrated. The article illuminates the varieties of CLIL implementation round the world. Scientific and methodological literature on the topic is reviewed. In the article, theoretical research methods are used: literature study, analysis, synthesis, and generalisation. The article points out the core principles and key requirements needed to implement the approach of content and language integrated learning successfully. The idea of a dual focus is explained: both professional and linguistic competences are developed at the same time. One of the core obstacles is knowledge evaluation, as there is no singular criterion in this concern. Scholars agree with the idea to separate marks. Therefore, a learner gets his/her mark (grade) for profession-oriented skills and linguistic ones separately. Both native and foreign languages learned within the course are correlated, the variations of their interconnection are analysed. Besides positive features, the articles analyses the main problems which a teacher may face during the lessons based on the content and language integrated learning approach. The main obstacles are as follows: lack of qualified and experienced teachers, methodological support, dissemination among social communities. The approach of content and language integrated learning is flexible and can be easily adapted to any teaching/learning/educational environment. Its variability and flexibility make it extremely popular with students. Furthermore, it tends to create a positive attitude to education and makes students more motivated.

Recently, there have been outlined some problems in the motivated participation of students in the educational process. These ones presuppose the optimization of traditional teaching methods and the application of new methods, techniques and approaches in the learning process. The necessity of introducing a new-invented educational model for students’ training at NSA "Vasil Levski", combining the foreign language teaching and their sports training is imposed by the need to improve the existing educational practice both in sport practice and in foreign language learning. The new-invented teaching method "Language through sport" for weightlifting and power lifting specialists has not been developed so far in this specific educational context. The experimental teaching method has been elaborated and applied by simultaneous implementation of foreign language learning of standardized international terms in the field of weightlifting and power lifting in students’ training sessions. The study of the impact of new-invented method "Language through Sport" on students’ motivation is a reliable indicator of the efficacy of this training and teaching method in sports pedagogical practice, not only in weightlifting and power lifting but also in other sports disciplines.
