Research findings in secondary schools have consistently indicated that geometry is one of the most difficult areas of Mathematics at basic level and students’ attitude towards it has been a factor that is known to influence students’ achievement in mathematics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of students’ attitude towards geometry and to find out whether gender difference influences such attitude. Some selected secondary schools in Zamfara state were used for the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design using a questionnaire tagged Geometric Attitude Questionnaire. The population of the study consisted of SS I students in Zamfara state. A sample of 157students was drawn using simple random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics of means and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions while Inferential Statistics of the Mann-Whitney test was used to test the formulated hypothesis. The study revealed that students’ attitude towards geometry was relatively high generally, with male students having much higher positive attitude to geometry than their female counterparts and that difference between them was not statistically significant at α = 0.05 level of significance. It is recommended that teachers should be resourceful in encouraging and helping students in order to build positive attitude by trying to relate geometry to real life situations and also be gender sensitive.

This research determined students’ perception of teachers’ characteristics of interest, attitude and subject mastery as required in the teaching of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone of Ebonyi State. The study made use of a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised all the chemistry students in all public secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone. From a total population of six hundred and thirty (630) senior secondary II students, a sample of three hundred (300) students was used for the study selected by stratified random sampling technique. This was based on the four local government areas in the Education zone. A structured questionnaire in a four point Likert type format was used for data collection. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.88, which showed a high internal consistency. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the lone null hypothesis. Results of the study indicated that students perceived to a high extent; teachers’ interest, attitude towards chemistry and mastery of the subject as necessary characteristics in the teaching of chemistry. The hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance was not significant. Based on the results of the study and the educational implications of the results, recommendations were made.

Purpose: This study evaluated the effectiveness of teacher-centered method of teaching Christian Religious Education in instilling respect among students in public secondary schools in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Kenya. Methodology: The study was guided by the Bandura’s social learning theory. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The study population comprised 50 CRE teachers and 1,615 Form Four students taking CRE in 49 public secondary schools. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 15 teachers, and 485 Form Four students from the accessible population. Face to face interviews were conducted to collect data from teachers while questionnaires were administered to collect data from students. Quantitative data from questionnaire were analyzed with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0 using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics and presented in tabular form. Data from interviews was analyzed qualitatively and presentation was done in narrative form. Findings: Majority of the interviewed students were male and were in the age category of 17-21 years of age while nearly two thirds of the interviewed teachers were males with different levels of education ranging from bachelors to PhD. Majority of the students reported that the use of school assignments, lectures, homework, game based approach, mental modeling approach, classroom instructions, and role play enhanced acquisition of virtue of respect. The Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient showed that there existed a positive, strong and statistically significant association between teacher-centered methods and instilling virtue of respect in students (r = 0.876; p < 0.05). Contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study concludes that strategic use of classroom approach through assignments, homework, and talk’s is essential in acquisition of virtue of respect among students. Furthermore, teacher-centered methods play critical roles in instilling the virtue of respect among students. Therefore, teachers should be assisted to acquire competence in correct C.R.E syllabus interpretation in order to enable them to adapt varied methods of teaching, policies should ensure systematic implementation of inclusive teaching methods for every student and creation of knowledge on teacher centered teaching methods.

Student Council is a representative structure through which students in a secondary school become involved in school affairs. The study set out to investigate student council participation in the management of discipline in public secondary schools in Teso North Sub-County in Busia County, Kenya. The study sought to establish: the influence of student council participation in the formulation of rules and regulations on management of discipline, and the influence of student council involvement in formulating punishment on the management of discipline. The target population was 7379 students and 189 teachers and 27 principals from 27 schools. The research employed descriptive survey design using a random sample of 365 students, 18 teachers and 9 principals. This sample size was determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s table of sample determination and using coefficient variation of 30% and a standard error of 2% through stratified simple random sampling technique. The data was collected using a selfadministered questionnaire. The study established that schools involved students in designing punishment but students never took punishment positively and that common disciplinary problems experienced in schools was due to lack of students involvement. It was further established that students were haphazardly involved in the school management of students’ discipline. Thus the study recommends schools to empower students’ council in which students’ views and ideas are heard and discussed; Ministry of education to organize and offer seminars where school heads are well sensitized on involving students in school management.

The purpose of this paper was to determine the prevalence of sports betting among secondary school students in Tanzania. The study was conducted in the Dodoma region and covered four secondary schools in Dodoma City. The probability sampling procedure was used to select students randomly for everyone to have the chance of being involved. The judgmental sampling technique were used to collect information from the head of discipline units and class teachers, and simple random sampling was used to select both public and private secondary schools. The study administered questionnaires and interview questions to students, head of discipline units, and class teachers. The questionnaires and interview questions targeted at picturing out the rate at which sports betting was intruding students. The finding shows that students aged between 10-17 years were reported to have high interest and feelings to take the risks of betting. The findings also show that females students are less involved in betting activities compared to male students. Besides, it was found that male students spend more of their precious time 6-10 hours a day in betting compared to female students. Furthermore, it was revealed that majority of students had taken part in more than one bet among the identified games including bet-way, premier bet, sport pesa, and tatu Mzuka.

Background of the study: The study aimed at examining perceptions of undergraduates on the contributions of online tools towards improvement of reading habit in Kwara state in universities. The study identified six (6) research questions. The research population was limited to undergraduates at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State University, Malate and Al-Hikmah University.Purpose: The study adopted descriptive survey design with questionnaire to collect data. The simple random sampling technique was adopted. The researcher used Educational and Psychological Measurement Israel model (2003) sample table to arrive at the actual sample size for this study. Therefore, the sample size for this study at level of ± 5% level of significance for population of 53, 130 students was 397. With total population of 76% for University of Ilorin, 18% for Kwara State University Malate and 6% for Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.Method: Data collected from the field were analyzed using descriptive method of analysis.Findings: The findings of the study revealed that blog, twitters, E-mail, websites, YouTube, Facebook is the most available online tools that improve undergraduates reading habit. The study also revealed that undergraduates using online tools for social purpose than others.Conclusion: The study concluded that undergraduates have good perception using online tools for their reading. The study also established that undergraduates using online tools for social, political, recreation and religion benefits. It is also established that distraction, fallout from technologies, financial constraints and poor power supply are the major setbacks to the use of online tools for reading.

Leishmaniasis has spread beyond the traditional areas of the Rift Valley and North Eastern provinces. There is more evidence of emergence and spread of leishmaniasis in Western Kenya. However, there is currently no comprehensive study on knowledge, attitude and prevention practices on leishmaniasis among the risk populations in the endemic Mount Elgon region of western Kenya. This has hindered the protocol for understanding the epidemiology of leishmaniasis. The descriptive survey design study was carried out from April to June, 2019 and it sought for information on KAP related to cutaneous leishmaniasis (C.L) in Mount Elgon region. Using stratified simple random sampling technique, a total of 340 household participants were selected in the study area. Structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Regarding the responses given to knowledge, attitude and practice, a score of 1 was given for each right response and 0 for unsure responses. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS version 23 statistical software. Descriptive statistics that include frequency and percentage were used to analyze the results. Out of 340 individuals were participated in our study 214 (62.9%) of the participants were males and 126 (37.1%) were females. The result of the present study in terms of knowledge showed that most of the respondents scored less than four items out of six correctly, hence described as having poor knowledge of CL. With regard to attitude respondents believed that CL was a problem in their area and had positive attitude towards the treatment of the disease. The study also found out that majority of the respondents practiced well, as indicated by scoring positively in more than three items. In terms of plants used in the treatment of the disease, Olea europaea, Kigelia Africana, Terminial mollis, Croton macrostachyus, Tylosema fassoglense and Bridella micrantha were mentioned. It was concluded that, people were less knowledgeable, had positive attitude towards the treatment especially using plant extracts could act as the basis for future research on alternative drugs against the disease.

This study examined motivation of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria. It also identify motivational factors that motivate women entrepreneurs and the influence of motivational factors of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted and the population consisted of 120 women entrepreneurs, out of which 100 women were selected in Lagos State through simple random sampling technique. Data generated through questionnaire were analysed using frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, F-statistics and multiple regression (R2) analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The finding revealed that motivational factors are positive on women entrepreneurs (r=.352**, P(.000)<.01). It is concluded that there are motivational factors such as competence motivation, affiliation motivation, incentive motivation and power motivation to mention but few that drive women to engage in entrepreneurship in Nigeria. It is recommended that women entrepreneurs should use those factors that motivate them to take up entrepreneurship to encourage other women to participate either fully or partially in entrepreneurship process.

The study examined the extent of Academic Achievement of Day and Boarding Secondary Schools Students in Onitsha Education Zone of Anambra State. Three research questions guided the study and survey research design was adopted. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study consisted 850 teachers within Onitsha Education Zone in Anambra State. The sample size consisted 85 teachers and was selected using simple random sampling. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire and the data collected were analyzed with mean. The findings revealed that boarding students academically achieve better than day students and that day students are distracted at home unlike boarding school students who are under the control of teachers for their study. It was concluded that lack of finance, educational facilities and inadequate infrastructures are the factors that affect the academic achievement of both the day and boarding students. The researchers recommended among others that students should be allowed to attend boarding schools so as to perform better and that government should intervene in schools by providing them with academic and boarding facilities

<p>The use of drama rehearsals as a tool for inculcating discipline among students had been investigated by a number of scholars and education practitioners on global, continental and regional levels. However notable that drama rehearsals as a tool for inculcating discipline could be overlooked as a result of its demands, such as time. Therefore, purpose of the study was to determine effectiveness of drama rehearsals as a strategy in the management of discipline in secondary schools in central region, Kenya. The study used descriptive survey design. The target population was 79 deputy principals, 79 drama teachers, and 1888 drama students and non-drama students in secondary school in Central Region, Kenya. Both the census technique and random sampling were used to get a representative sample size of 419 respondents. Data was collected from the respondents using pretested questionnaires and was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) and then interpreted. The study found that the relationship between drama rehearsals and management of discipline among secondary school students was significant. The study therefore recommended that there was need to for school administrators to facilitate more drama rehearsals in order to improve the levels of discipline among students.
