The present study was conducted to analyse the extent of empowerment achieved by fisherwomen through participation in the entrepreneurial activities of self help groups (SHGs) functioning in the fisheries sector. Data were collected from 180 SHG members in the Kollam, Ernakulam and Kasargod districts of Kerala. Aquaculture (55.5%) and value addition of fish (45.5%) were the entrepreneurial activities adopted by fisherwomen SHGs. Empowerment level of each SHG member was quantified by modifying the existing empowerment dimensions into an Empowerment Index (EI), consisting of 8 sub-dimensions. Extent of empowerment was found out by taking the difference of empowerment index before and after joining the SHG. Among the eight empowerment dimensions, higher difference was observed in confidence building (0.43) followed by economic empowerment (0.42) and decision making pattern (0.41). The study revealed that the levelof involvement in entrepreneurial activity has increased the empowerment in terms of confidence building, self-esteem, decision making pattern, psychological and economic empowerment. However, the existing fisheries extension interventions through extension contact and training were found to be associated with only self esteem and psychological empowerment.Therefore, new and innovative extension interventions are suggested in the paper to influence other sub-dimensions like economic empowerment, confidence building and decision making pattern.

The chapter attempts to analyze the impact of microfinance and micro-entrepreneurial activities of women through self-help groups (SHGs) on their socio-economic empowerment. Empirically applauded Logit model has been employed for analyzing the socio-economic impacts using primary data collected from a primary survey conducted in selected rural blocks of Burdwan district of West Bengal, India. Participation of women in the household decision-making process and income and employment generation activities are found to be significant factors in this regard. Finally, the study suggests that training of SHGs to non-members, increase in loan amount from banks, and effective utilization of that loan promote women's empowerment as well as employment.

ABSTRAKDiera perkembangan jaman saat ini, beberapa keluarga dihadapkan dengan permasalahna tentang adanya angggota keluarga yeng mengaami gangguan jiwa, tak jarang keluarga tidak mengetahui bagaimana merawat angota keluarga dengan gangguan jiwa. Self help group pada keluarga dengan gangguan jiwa perlu dilakukan untuk membantu keluarga mengatasi permasalahannya yang diselesaikan bersama dalam kelompok. Manfaat yang didapatkan pada terapi ini adalah terdapatnya peningkatan pengetahuan keluarga tentang Skizofrenia. Peningkatan pengetahuan ini akan berdampak terhadap kemampuan keluarga dalam merawat klien Skizofrenia..Desain penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre eksperimental dengan rancangan one group pre-posttest design. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah keluarga penderita Skizofrenia di PKU Jiwa Kalitidu yang berjumlah 32. . Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji Wolcoxon sign dengan tingkat kemaknaan 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi responden sebelum dan sesudah dilakukan intervensi dengan self help group pada kemampuan merawat dengan  nilai uji wilcoxon sebesar 0,001 yang berarti ada pengaruh dari intervensi self help group dengan merawat keluarga dengan gangguan jiwa. Kata Kunci       : Self Help Group, Kemampuan Merawat, Skizofrenia   ABSTRACT. In the current era of development, some families are faced with problems about family members who suffer from mental disorders, often families do not know how to care for family members with mental disorders. Self help groups for families with mental disorders need to be done to help families overcome the problems that are solved together in a group. The benefit of this therapy is that there is an increase in family knowledge about Schizophrenia. This increase in knowledge will have an impact on the ability of families to care for Schizophrenia clients.The design of this study used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-posttest design. The sample in this study was the families of Schizophrenics in  Kalitidu public helath centre, amounting to 32.. Data were collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed using the Wolcoxon sign test with a significance level of 0.05.The results showed that the condition of the respondents before and after the intervention with self help group on the ability to care for Wilcoxon test value of 0.001, which means there is an influence of self help group intervention by caring for families with mental disorders. Keywords: Self Help Group, Caring Ability, Schizophrenia

The rural area peoples are mostly suffered of human life style because it is based on the reason of economic. The present study focused area of psychological, social and economic empowerment of women in Pudukkottai block specified rural area of Perungalur, Athanakottai, Varapur, Mullur and Vadavalam. It is; therefore, women need special attention to ensure their development and active participation in the decision-making process at home. It is also widely recognized that apart from managing household, bearing children, rural women bring income with productive activities ranging from traditional work in the fields to working in factories or running small and petty businesses. They have also proven that they can be better entrepreneurs and development managers in any kind of human development activities. The empowerment of women also considered as an active process enabling women to realize their full identity and power in all spheres of life. The empowerment of women is modified in our life with help of Self Help Groups in Pudukkottai area.

Background: The German Cancer Aid set up a priority research programme with the intention to generate high-quality information based on evidence and to make this information easily accessible for health-care professionals and advisors, researchers, patients, and the general public. Summary: The Kompetenznetz Komplementärmedizin in der Onkologie (KOKON) received 2 funding periods within this programme. During the first funding period, KOKON assessed patients’ and health-care professionals’ informational needs, developed a consulting manual for physicians, developed an education programme for self-help groups, set up a knowledge database, and developed a pilot information website for patients. Funding period 2 continues with work that allows cancer patients and health-care professionals to make informed decisions about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). For this aim, KOKON evaluates training programmes for physicians (oncology physicians, paediatric oncologists, and general practitioners) and for self-help groups. All training programmes integrate results from an analysis of the ethical, psychological, and medical challenges of CAM in the medical encounter, and the knowledge database is being extended with issues related to CAM for supportive and palliative care. Key Message: A Germany-wide collaborative research project to identify needs, provide information, foster communication, and support decision-making about CAM in oncology is being set up.
