This study measures the efficiency of Islamic banks in Indonesia using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) window methods for 14 Indonesia’s Islamic banks covering the period spanning from 2011 to 2020.. The results show that the efficiency of Islamic banks   averages 80% and exhibits increasing trend over the period 2011-2020.  Based on stability measures, which are standard deviation (SD), Long Distance per Window (LDW), Long Distance per Period (LDP), and Long Distance per Year (LDY), we find the efficiency of PT Bank BRI Syariah (BSI) and PT Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSI) to be relatively stable.

This research has the purpose to measure efficiency and analyze the efficiency comparison between Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and Sharia Bussines Unit (UUS) in Indonesia and compare the efficiency during the period 2008-2013. There are 10 Islamic banks which are used as samples of this research consisting of 3 Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and 7 Sharia Business Unit (UUS) that were chosen by purposive sampling. Efficiency measurements in this research using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). To determine differences in efficiency between Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and Sharia Bussines Unit (UUS), this study uses a different test parametric independent sample t-test. The result of this research showed that there is no significant difference between the efficiency of Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and Sharia Bussines Unit (UUS), during the period of 2008-2013 with possible intervention t value (-0.429) < t table (2.002) and probability value =0.000.

Banking sector mediation is related to efficiency in economic performance. As a financial institution, banks need to maintain their performance in order to operate optimally, one factor that must be considered is efficiency in performance. This research aimed to analyze the efficiency of Islamic Banks and Conventional Commercial Bank in Indonesia. Using a purposive sample technique for two Islamic banks and two commercial banks. Fixed assets, deposits, and other operating expenses as input variablesused, while credit as output variable.  Using Data Envelopment Analysis to calculate the efficiency of banking. The results show that all Sharia Commercial Bank samples reached efficiency level 1 was efficient. Besides, the sample of conventional commercial banks used in this study is not all efficient. This is due to one of the sample banks having an efficiency level below one, which is 0.644. It means that conventional bank groups are inefficient.

This study measures and compares the efficiency of Islamic banks in Malaysia and Indonesia using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), which is a non-parametric and deterministic methodology for determining the relative efficiency. The intermediation approach will be applied. This study identifies the sources and the level of inefficiency of the inputs and outputs. The results show that the Islamic banking in Indonesia is more efficient than the one in Malaysia in all three measurements; the technical, the scale, and the overall efficiency. Technically, financing is one of the sources of inefficiency in Malaysia, while human resource is one of the sources of inefficiency in Indonesia.Islamic windows should be encouraged to convert to subsidiaries or Islamic full branches to improve the scale and the overall efficiencies in Malaysia. Furthermore, the accelerated expansion both organically and inorganically is needed to improve the scale and the overall efficiencies of the Islamic banking in Indonesia.JEL Classification: C14, G21, G28Keywords: Islamic banking, performance, efficiency, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA).

This study measured and compared the efficiency of Islamic Bank in Malaysia and Indonesia. This sytudy used a quantitative non-parametric approach by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA)VRS assumption, and a statistic tool Mann-Whitney-U-Test. The samples were 6 Islamic Banks in Malaysia and 10 Islamic Bank in Indonesia that comply with the specified sample criteria during 2010-2014.The results of this research showed that Islamic Banks in Indonesia relatively higher than Islamic Bank in Malaysia based on VRS assumption. Source of inefficiency in Islamc banks in Indonesia more due to inefficiency on a scale. While the hypothesis test showed that there are no significant differences of efficiency between Islamic bank in Indonesia and Malaysia with VRS Assumtion .

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine empirically the efficiency types of Islamic and conventional banks. It seeks to show whether the efficiency level of conventional and Islamic banks significantly differs from each other. In addition, it investigates the influential factors on each type of efficiency. Design/methodology/approach The paper utilises the data envelopment analysis in its windows version to estimate the efficiency scores reflecting the time variance and compares between banking models. The paper uses pure technical efficiency (TE) and scale efficiency to achieve the objective of the study. In addition, the panel data technique is adopted to assess the determinants of the efficiency of the banks econometrically. Findings The findings of panel regression initially indicate that the pure TE is higher for conventional banks compared to Islamic banks. However, the Islamic banks are more scale efficient than their conventional counterpart. Macro and micro indicators have different impacts on the both types of efficiency. However, the unique factors that show consistent influence on the efficiency types were loans/finance, non-interest income/finance/liquidity and GDP. Furthermore, the determinants are shaped differently for Islamic and conventional banks when the banking model is controlled for. Originality/value This paper examines the efficiency types using a unique window analysis approach to examine the types of efficiency with a longitudinal set of data from 1996 to 2011.

Using methods like linear regression or latent variable models, researchers are often interested in maximizing explained variance and identifying the importance of specific variables within their models. These models are useful for understanding general ideas and trends, but often give limited insight into the individuals within said models. Data envelopment analysis (DEA), is a method with roots in organizational management that make such insights possible. Unlike models mentioned above, DEA does not explain variance. Instead, it explains how efficiently an individual utilizes their inputs to produce outputs, and identifies which input is not being utilized optimally. This paper provides readers with a brief history and past usages of DEA from organizational management, public health, and educational administration fields, while also describing the underlying math and processes behind said model. This paper then extends the usage of this method into the psychology field using two separate studies. First, using data from the Project KIDS dataset, DEA is demonstrated using a simple view of reading framework identifying individual efficiency levels in using reading-based skills to achieve reading comprehension, determining which skills are being underutilized, and classifying and comparing new subsets of readers. Three new subsets of readers were identified using this method, with direct implications leading to more targeted interventions. Second, DEA was used to measure individuals’ efficiency in regulating aggressive behavior given specific personality traits or related skills. This study found that despite comparable levels of component skills and personality traits, significant differences were found in efficiency to regulate aggressive behavior on the basis of gender and feelings of provocation.
