The goal of this master thesis is to realize and investigate leak tightness of joints produced by theelectromagnetic pulse (EMP) crimping process. This way of joining metals has gained more attention lately. With EMP welding, leak tight joints can already be achieved. However, the crimping process has somemajor advantages over EMP welding like the fact that more material combinations are possible and itrequires less energy. To realize the leak tightness, two kinds of sealing materials are used: O-rings andadhesives. The workpieces consist of an aluminium or stainless steel tube which is crimped on a solidaluminium mandrel with circumferential grooves in it. First, some preliminary tests are performed todetermine how much the tubes deform in the grooves. This deformation mainly depends on the appliedcharging voltage and the geometry of the groove. With this information, it is possible to estimate the amountof compression an O-ring would undergo when placed inside this groove. On other workpieces, adhesiveswill be applied. Several test procedures can be conducted on the parts to investigate leak tightness. Theresults of a helium test and a pressure burst test on the first test series conducted at the Walloon researchcentre CEWAC already showed that the use of O-rings can be effective.

This article was created as a result of research conducted within the master thesis. The purpose of the measurements was to analyze the accuracy of the positioning of points by computer programs. Selected software was a specialized computer software dedicated to photogrammetric work. For comparative purposes it was decided to use tools with similar functionality. As the basic parameters that affect the results selected the resolution of the photos on which the key points were searched. In order to determine the location of the determined points, it was decided to follow the photogrammetric resection rule. In order to automate the measurement, the measurement session planning was omitted. The coordinates of the points collected by the tachymetric measure were used as a reference system. The resulting deviations and linear displacements oscillate in millimeters. The visual aspects of the cloud points have also been briefly analyzed.

Watch the VIDEO of the presentation.Open access to research results is a stated aim for the University of Tromsø – The artic university of Norway. The university’s research archive, Munin, has a well-developed system to make available the university’s own research, as well as master theses written by its students. Both master and PhD theses from UiT are delivered directly through Munin and can be made openly available on-line. Despite of this, many candidates choose not to have their theses made openly available through Munin. In my master thesis in document management, I examined why some candidates opt against, or postpone, making their theses openly available through Munin. What factors influence this decision, and are the given reasons based on actual issues or on misconceptions? From Munin I was given access to metadata from previously delivered, and passed, master and PhD theses where the candidate wanted to withhold their theses from being made openly available in Munin. The metadata contained the reasons provided by the candidates for their decision. I also conducted an electronic survey among, then, current master students where the goal was to examine current students’ attitudes towards making their thesis openly available in Munin, and compare the results from this survey with reasons stated by former master and PhD candidates. The main reason provided for postponing or refusing open access to their theses, given by both former master and PhD candidates, and current master students, where the fear that it would impair their chances for future publication. My study also showed that both master and PhD candidates from the faculty of health science are less likely to make their theses openly available in Munin, than candidates from other faculties. This faculty also had more candidates than other expressing concern over the possibilities for future publication. Why do candidates from different faculties within the same university show different attitudes towards having their work openly available? Are candidates right in their concerns regarding open availability and future publication, or are these concerns based on unfounded fears? Does it matter if master and PhD candidates choses not to make their work openly available, and can candidates be encouraged to make their work available?

The aims of the research is to analyze reasons for short term restriction onthe Postponement of Debt Payment Obligation (PDPO), the existence of time limitprovisions resulting the failure of the debtors’ debt efforts with creditors, and thePKPU’s term limits on legal protection for the interests of debtors to prevent bankruptcy. This research is a normative juridical research. Data used in this researchwere secondary data obtained from official documents, books related to the objectof research, research results in the form of reports, bachelor thesis, master thesis, dissertation and regulations. This research was also supported with primary databy conducting an interview with Advocates as resource persons to support the research.Data were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the research indicated that:(1) the term restriction given by Law no. 37 of 2004 concerning Bankruptcy andPostponement of Debt Payment Obligation has an objective of making debtors ableto offer amicable resolution to creditors related to debt payments so that debtors cancontinue their business. (2) The term is not a determinant of the failure of amicableresolution effort in the Postponement of Debt Payment Obligation, but affect theprocess of achieving the Postponement of Debt Payment Obligation, (3) Law No.37 of 2004 concerning Bankruptcy and Postponement of Debt Payment Obligationprovides security guarantee such as giving the debtors an opportunity to reorganizebusiness or company management or to restructure their debts within the period ofPostponement of Debt Payment Obligation, and the debtor does not lose their rightsto take care of the company and assets, so that the debtors still have the authorityto manage the company. It can be concluded from the research that (1) Law no.37 of 2004 concerning Bankruptcy and Postponement of Debt Payment Obligationprovides a short term for the debtors so that the debtors are really able to makeamicable resolution to the creditor in relation to the payment of debts. (2). The termis not a determinant of the failure of amicable resolution effort in the Postponementof Debt Payment Obligation, but affect the process of achieving the Postponementof Debt Payment Obligation. (3). Law no. 37 of 2004 concerning Bankruptcy and Postponement of Debt Payment Obligation has provided a guarantee of legal protection in the form of certainty to the debtor to prevent bankruptcy.

The present study is intended to critically examine metadiscourse markers in 24 master thesis abstracts. Twelve of them are written by non-native Iraqi female students and the rest by native American female students. To do so, the researchers have set two aims: examining the types and subtypes of metadiscourse markers in terms of nativity and major and comparing the usages of metadiscourse markers’ types and subtypes in terms of nativity. To achieve the present aims, Hyland’s model (2005) is adopted. It aids in classifying the types and subtypes of metadiscourse markers in both data. The findings show that the Iraqi and American researchers use the interactive resources more than the interactional ones but the American researchers are capable of engaging their readers since their use of the interactional markers is higher than their counterparts. The field has no effect on the use of metadiscourse markers. There is diversity in the usage of the interactive resources in Iraqi data. Accordingly, the researchers recommend metadiscourse markers to be added to M.A courses as part of abstract writing exercise and the instructors of fourth-year college students to include metadiscourse markers in the writing of their research papers for coherence and clarity.

It is not always easy to start a research process. When doing a master thesis, it is necessary to take into consideration that there is no previous experience in the scientific process. Usually, during the development of a master thesis, student and supervisor work side-by-side or at least with a stronger support from the side of the supervisor. It is expected to have the supervisor close by to clarify doubts or point ways. But what happens when student and supervisor are not close by? When they communicate at distance, using different means to reach their purposes? How to help the student to find his/her way and, even more important, to keep him/her motivated in this solitary road? In this chapter, the authors present a situation where supervisors and students are separated by an ocean. They describe the challenges faced by both supervisor and students and give some recommendations in order to help other similar key players to overcome the difficulties and be successful.
