This study presents petrophysics analysis results from two wells located in the Arafura Basin. The analysis carried out to evaluate the reservoir characterization and its relationship to the stratigraphic sequence based on log data from the Koba-1 and Barakan-1 Wells. The stratigraphy correlation section of two wells depicts that in the Cretaceous series a transgression-regression cycle. The petrophysical parameters to be calculated are the shale volume and porosity. The analysis shows that there is a relationship between stratigraphic sequences and petrophysical properties. In the study area, shale volumes used to make complete rock profiles in wells assisted by biostratigraphic data, cutting descriptions, and core descriptions. At the same time, porosity shows a conformity pattern with the transgression-regression cycle.Keywords: petrophysics, reservoir characterization, Cretaceous, transgressive-regressive cycle

The objective of the study is developing a procedure for production and characterization of rice husk ash (RHA). The effects of rice husk (RH) amount, burning/cooling conditions combined with stirring on producing of RHA with amorphous silica, highest SiO2, lowest loss on ignition (LOI), uniform particle shape distribution and nano structured size have been studied. It is concluded that the best amount is 20 g RH in 125 ml evaporating dish Porcelain with burning for 2 h at temperature 700 °C combined with cooling three times during burning to produce RHA with amorphous silica, SiO2 90.78% and LOI 1.73%. On the other hand, cooling and stirring times affect the variation of nano structured size and particle shape distribution. However, no crystalline phases were found in RHA in all cases. Results proved that the Attritor ball mill was more suitable than vibration disk mill for pulverizing nano structured RHA with 50% of particle size (D50) lower than 45 mm and 99 % of particle size (D99) lower than 144 mm to nanosized RHA with D50 lower than 36 nm and D99 lower than 57 nm by grinding time 8.16 min to every 1 g RHA without changes in morphousity of silica.

Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria were extensively studied in many environment. However, little is known about them in drill cuttings, as wastes from drilling process. A phosphate-solubilizing bacterium strain PSB13 was isolated from petroleum-contaminated drill cuttings. This strain was identified asPseudochrobactrumsp. based on its 16S rDNA sequence and phenotypic characteristics. This strain could solubilize 97.6 μg/ml phosphates in 6 days when grown in NBRIP liquid medium. The increase in solubilization of phosphate coincided with the drop in pH, which indicates organic acid was responsible for the phosphate-solubilization. Phosphate-solubilizing bacterium was reported in drill cuttings for the first time, which suggests its potential in the bioremediation of petroleum-contaminated drill cuttings.

This special issue collects a series of recent works on various fractal-based approaches in unconventional reservoirs. The topics covered in this introduction include fractal characterization of pore (throat) structure and its influences on the physical properties of unconventional rocks, fractal characteristics of crack propagation in coal and fluid flow in rock fracture network under shearing, porous flow phenomena and gas adsorption mechanism, fractal geophysical method in reservoirs.

AbstractAmong different possible energy sources, in the search for fossil fuel substitutes, hydrogen and fuel cells are presented as one of the most promising alternatives, with great potential, in the development of devices for the generation of clean electrical energy. Recently, lanthanum based compounds have been studied due to their interesting transport properties, which led these products to be applied as possible cathode materials in a solid oxide fuel cell. In this work, a lanthanum based material with a perovskite structure, La0.7Sr0.3Fe0.7Co0.3O3±δ (LSFC), was synthesized, from nitrates, by sonochemistry. This product was structurally characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and morphological studies were obtained by scanning electron microscopy. Results showed a nanostructured material with a crystal size in de order of 14 nm and a cubic perovskite structure with cell parameters of a = 3.8927 Å. Morphological characterization indicated a porous material formed by grains of homogeneous size, pores had an average length of 17 nm and area of 36 nm2, showing a channel shape distribution.
