Abstract The wide existence of fractures makes conformance control by polymer gels more challenging in water-flooded oil reservoirs. Selection of an applicable gel system and design of an intelligent approach for gel treatment are key components for a successful field application. Moreover, selecting the candidate wells and determining the injection volume of gel are also critical to the success of gel treatments. A gel system with adjustable polymer concentrations was applied for conformance control in fractured tight sandstone reservoir, and notably, less than 5% of syneresis was detected after aging for one year at reservoir condition. The viscosity and the gelation time of this gel system can be adjusted according to the targeted reservoir conditions. The pilot test was conducted in Huabei oilfield (China), and the oil recovery after water flooding was only about 20% original oil in place (OOIP). With further exploitation of the oil field, the majority of the reservoir has suffered from poor sweep efficiency and extremely high water cuts. To characterize the distribution of fractures, the seismic coherence cube was utilized. In addition, the pressure transient test, interwell tracer test and the injection-production data were used collaboratively to determine the volume of fractures in the reservoir. The option of gel formulation and the determination of operational parameters are mainly based on the wellhead pressure. According to the seismic coherence cube, the zone of candidate well group shows a weak coherence state, indicating that numerous fractures exist. Furthermore, there is good continuity between the candidate injection well and the production well. According to the pressure transient test, the volume of re-open fracture is about 1730.9 m3, while the volume of micro-fracture is about 4839.4 m3. Comparably, based on the interwell tracer test, the estimated volume of fractures is approximately 3219.7 m3. Consequently, the designed volume of gel for treatment is 1500.0 m3 in total. The properties of gel slugs were carefully designed, which was tailored to the specific wellbore conditions and formation characteristics. Three months after the gel treatment, the average oil production was increased from 0.36 t/d to 0.9 t/d, and the water cut was decreased from 95.77% to 88.7%. The improved oil production was still benefited from this gel treatment after one year. This study provides a comprehensive approach, from optimization of gel formulation, followed by selection of candidate wells, to calculation of the injected volume, to design the viable operational parameters, for gel treatment field application in fractured reservoirs. It shows that, besides a gel system with superior properties, a suitable injected volume of gel may enhance the chance of success for gel treatments.

The results of the study of the duration of the juvenile period of indigenous Chechen willow leaf pear genotypes (Pyrus salicifolia Pall.) are given in connection with the acceleration of the breeding process and the use of selected forms in pear breeding for high precocity. The studies were carried out in 2016-2019 at OOO “Orchards of Chechnya” in accordance with the Agreement on creative cooperation with the Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding. The work was carried out in accordance with generally accepted programs and methods. The objects of the study were one-year and two-year-old pear seedlings obtained from sowing seeds of selected dwarf and low-growing local Chechen forms of willow pear (P. salicifolia Pall.), laying fruit buds on annual growths and seedlings of Caucasian pear (P. caucasica Fed.), 20 500 pcs. of each specie. The aim of the research was to study the potential of precocity of willow pear seedlings and to reveal of selected forms with the greatest degree of this trait. Stratified seeds were sown in the sowing department of the OOO “Orchards of Chechnya” production nursery in April, 2017. The seedlings were grown according to the common technology in dryland conditions on the plot with chestnut soil. The first fl owering of plants was noted in the spring, 2019. As a result of the research, for the first time on a large number of the experimental material it was found that in the off spring of the indigenous Chechen willow leaf pear genotypes, the selection of a little more than 2% of seedlings with a very short juvenile period (2 years) was possible. They are of great interest in accelerating the breeding process and in the selection of new pear varieties with high precocity. 20 willow leaf pear genotypes were selected for the further use in breeding for high precocity and as sources of the trait of short juvenile period.

As an important type of unconventional hydrocarbon, tight sandstone oil has great present and future resource potential. Reservoir quality evaluation is the basis of tight sandstone oil development. A comprehensive evaluation approach based on the gray correlation algorithm is established to effectively assess tight sandstone reservoir quality. Seven tight sandstone samples from the Chang 6 reservoir in the W area of the AS oilfield in the Ordos Basin are employed. First, the petrological and physical characteristics of the study area reservoir are briefly discussed through thin section observations, electron microscopy analysis, core physical property tests, and whole-rock and clay mineral content experiments. Second, the pore type, throat type and pore and throat combination characteristics are described from casting thin sections and scanning electron microscopy. Third, high-pressure mercury injection and nitrogen adsorption experiments are optimized to evaluate the characteristic parameters of pore throat distribution, micro- and nanopore throat frequency, permeability contribution and volume continuous distribution characteristics to quantitatively characterize the reservoir micro- and nanopores and throats. Then, the effective pore throat frequency specific gravity parameter of movable oil and the irreducible oil pore throat volume specific gravity parameter are introduced and combined with the reservoir physical properties, multipoint Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area, displacement pressure, maximum mercury saturation and mercury withdrawal efficiency parameters as the basic parameters for evaluation of tight sandstone reservoir quality. Finally, the weight coefficient of each parameter is calculated by the gray correlation method, and a reservoir comprehensive evaluation indicator (RCEI) is designed. The results show that the study area is dominated by types II and III tight sandstone reservoirs. In addition, the research method in this paper can be further extended to the evaluation of shale gas and other unconventional reservoirs after appropriate modification.

One of the fundamental tasks in restoring the operability of cylinder liners is the application of a composite coating with a predetermined microhardness value. The authors have developed a technology for applying composite coatings based on iron on cylindrical surfaces, which makes it possible to vary the physical, mechanical and operational parameters of the formed iron-containing coating due to the planned selection of the deposition parameters. This eliminates the need for mechanical treatment of the applied coating, which is the reason for the high degree of rejection parts that undergo the iron-on operation. Contact interaction of the working tool with the formed layer of the composite coating has a positive effect on the value of its roughness.
