Abstract Baiyangdian Lake is a typical and largest multi-habitat lake in the North plain of China. To understand the generation and transmission of antibiotics resistance genes (ARGs) in multi-habitat lakes, the contents of nutrients (TC, TOC, TN, TP and TS), heavy metals (Zn, Cr, Ni, Cu, Pb, As, Cd and Hg), 22 antibiotics, 16S-rRNA(16S), Class I integron (intI1) and 20 ARGs were determined. Samples were taken from the Fuhe river, river estuaries, reed marshes, living area, fish poods and open water of Baiyangdian Lake. The results showed that quinolones (QNs) were the main pollutants, and the content range was ND-104.94 ng/g. Thereinto, aac (6') -IB, blaTEM-1, ermF, qnrA, qnrD, tetG, sul1, sul2 and tetM were detected in 100%. The absolute abundance of sul1 was the highest (5.25×105copies/g-6.21×107 copies/g), which was the dominant ARGs. In these different habitats, the abundance of antibiotics and ARGs in river estuary was the highest, and that in reed marshes was the lowest. There was a significant positive correlation between the abundance of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cd, Hg) and the absolute abundance of 11 ARGs (P<0.01). Redundancy analysis showed that Cu, Zn, intI1, TP and macrolides (MLs) were the important factors affecting the distribution of ARGs. Our findings provides a more likely driving and influencing factor for the transmission of ARGs in lakes with complex and diverse habitats.

Several physicochemical and season factors have been related to the abundance of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), considered hotspots of bacterial resistance. However, few studies on the subject have been carried out in tropical countries endemic for resistance mechanisms such as blaKPC. In this study, the occurrence of ARGs, particularly blaKPC, was determined throughout a WWTP, and the factors related to their abundance were explored. In 2017, wastewater samples were taken from a WWTP in Colombia every 15 days for 6 months, and a total of 44 samples were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR. sul1, sul2, blaKPC, and ermB were found to be the most prevalent ARGs. A low average reduction of the absolute abundance ARGs in effluent with respect to influent was observed, as well as a greater absolute abundance of ARGs in the WWTP effluent in the rainy season. Factors such as temperature, pH, oxygen, total organic carbon (TOC), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and precipitation were significantly correlated with the absolute abundance of several of the ARGs evaluated. A generalized linear mixed-effects model analysis showed that dissolved oxygen and precipitation in the sampling day were important factors related to the absolute concentration of blaKPC over time. In conclusion, the abundance of ARGs in the WWTP could be influenced by endemic conditions and physicochemical and climatological parameters. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously monitor clinical relevant genes in WWTPs from different global regions, even more so in low-income countries where sewage treatment is limited.

Currently, due to abuse in the use of human antibiotics and the weak regulatory control that the authorities have over sewage discharge and manure management, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have become a new type of environmental pollutant. Three different natural water bodies (Poyang Lake, Haihe River and Qingdao No.1 Bathing Beach seawater) were sampled during the same periods to conduct a longitudinal comparison of distribution. The distribution and expression of 11 ARGs in 20 species were studied, and the correlations between the expression and the distribution of time and space of the ARGs in different water bodies were also analyzed. With the exception of ermA, blaNDM-1 and vanA, which were not detected in seawater, the other ARGs could be detected in all three water bodies. Tetracycline resistance genes (tetC, tetM and tetQ) in the seawater and Haihe River had even reached 100%, and sulfa ARGs (sul1 and sul2) in the seawater and Poyang Lake, as well as sul2 and sul3 in the Haihe River, had also reached 100%. The ARG pollution in Haihe River was much more serious, since 14 and 17 of 20 ARG species were significantly higher compared with seawater and Poyang Lake, respectively. Some ARGs also had a high absolute abundance. The absolute abundance of macrolide resistance genes (ermB) in seawater was as high as 8.61 × 107 copies/L, and the anti-tuberculosis resistant genes (rpoB and katG) in the Haihe River Basin were highly abundant at 1.32 × 106 copies/L and 1.06 × 107 copies/L, respectively. This indicates that ARGs have gradually become more diverse and extensive in natural water bodies. The results of a redundancy analysis (RDA) of the three water bodies showed that although each water body is affected by different factors in space and time, overall, the presence of AGRs is closely related to the production and life of human beings and the migration of animals.

The aims of the current study were to detect the virulence factors and antibiotic resistance of Shiga toxin-producingE. coli, in animal milk and dairy products in Iran. AfterE. colidentification with culture method, PCR assay were developed for detection of pathogenic genes, serotypes and antibiotic resistance genes ofE. coli. Results showed that out of 719 samples, 102 (14.18%) were confirmed to be positive forE. coliand out of 102 positive samples, 17.64% were O26 and 13.72% were O157 and 1.96% were O91 and 1.96% were O145 serotypes. Totally, the prevalence ofstx1 andpapAgenes were the highest while the prevalence ofsfaSandfyuAwere the lowest in the positive samples. PCR results showed thattetA, tetBwere the highest (64.70%) andaac(3)-IVwere the lowest (27.45%) antibiotic resistant genes inE. colipositive samples. Our study indicated that the isolatedE. colitrains in these regions had a highest antibiotic resistance to tetracycline (58.82%) and the lowest to nitrofurantoin (3.92%).tetAgene andE. coliO157 serotype had highest andaac(3)-IVgene, andE. coliO145 serotype had a lowest frequency rates of antibiotics resistance genes, in the region.
