Abstract In this paper, we present a low complexity beamspace direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation method for uniform circular array (UCA), which is based on the single measurement vectors (SMVs) via vectorization of sparse covariance matrix. In the proposed method, we rstly transform the signal model of UCA to that of virtual uniform linear array (ULA) in beamspace domain using the beamspace transformation (BT). Subsequently, by applying the vectorization operator on the virtual ULA-like array signal model, a new dimension-reduction array signal model consists of SMVs based on Khatri-Rao (KR) product is derived. And then, the DOA estimation is converted to the convex optimization problem. Finally, simulations are carried out to verify the eectiveness of the proposed method, the results show that without knowledge of the signal number, the proposed method not only has higher DOA resolution than subspace-based methods in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), but also has much lower computational complexity comparing other sparse-like DOA estimation methods.

AbstractIn this paper, we present a low complexity sparse beamspace direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation method for uniform circular array (UCA). In the proposed method, we firstly use the beamspace transformation (BT) to transform the signal model of UCA in element-space domain to that of virtual uniform linear array (ULA) in beamspace domain. Subsequently, by applying the vectoring operator on the virtual ULA-like array signal model, a novel dimension-reduction sparse beamspace signal model is derived based on Khatri-Rao (KR) product, the observation data of which is represented by the single measurement vectors (SMVs) via vectorization of sparse covariance matrix. And then, the DOA estimation is formulated as a convex optimization problem by following the concept of a sparse-signal-representation (SSR) of the SMVs. Finally, simulations are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that without knowledge of the number of signals, the proposed method not only has higher DOA resolution than the subspace-based methods in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), but also has far lower computational complexity than other sparse-like DOA estimation methods.

The resolution of a Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm is determined based on its capability to resolve two closely spaced signals. In this paper, authors present and discuss the minimum number of array elements needed for the resolution of nearby sources in several DOA estimation methods. In the real world, the informative signals are corrupted by Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). Thus, a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) offers a better resolution. Therefore, we show the performance of each method by applying the algorithms in different noise level environments.

5G-NR, CP-OFDM, synchronization, sample clock offset, PUSCH. О The paper investigates the issue of sampling clock offset ( SCO) in the fifth generation new radio systems. Due to the imperfect SCO estimation methods, the correction methods relying on the SCO estimation are not perfect, so the proposed method directly corrects the effect of SCO without using any kind of estimation method. Our method is designed to correct the signals in the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). The method uses reference signals as recommended by the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) standards. The results of the numerical simulation show that the use of the proposed method increases the efficiency of data transmission over the multipath radio channel by more than 15% in a wide range of signal-to-noise ratio values.

Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is always a hotspot research in the fields of radar, sonar, communication and so on. And uniform circular arrays (UCAs) are more attractive in the context of DOA estimation since their symmetrical structures have potential to provide two directions coverage. This paper proposed a new DOA estimation method for UCAs via virtual subarray beamforming technique. The method would provide an acceptable DOA estimate even if the number of sources is great than the number of array elements. Also, the performance of the proposed method would hold good when the snapshot length or the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is small. Simulations show that the proposed technique offers significantly improved estimation resolution, capacity, and accuracy relative to the existing techniques.

International audience OFDM based pilots channel estimation methods with processing into the transform domain appear attractive owing to their capacity to highly reduce the noise component effect. However, in current OFDM systems, null subcarriers are placed at the edge of the spectrum in order to assure isolation from interfering signals in neighboring frequency bands; and the presence of these null carriers may lead, if not taken into account, to serious degradation of the estimated channel responses due to the “border effect” phenomenon. In this paper an improved algorithm based on truncated SVD is proposed in order to correctly support the case of null carriers at border spectrum. A method for optimizing the truncation threshold whatever the system parameters is also proposed. To make the truncated SVD channel estimation method applicable to any SISO or MIMO OFDM system and whatever the system parameters, a complexity reduction algorithm based on the distribution of the power in the transfer matrix (based on DFT or DCT) is proposed.

In this paper, we present a metasurface-based Direction of Arrival (DoA) estimation method that exploits the properties of space-time modulated reflecting metasurfaces to estimate in real-time the impinging angle of an illuminating monochromatic plane wave. The approach makes use of the amplitude unbalance of the received fields at broadside at the frequencies of the two first-order harmonics generated by the interaction between the incident plane wave and the modulated metasurface. Here, we first describe analytically how to generate the desired higher-order harmonics in the reflected spectrum and how to realize the breaking of the spatial symmetry of each order harmonic scattering pattern. Then, the one dimensional (1D) omnidirectional incident angle can be analytically computed using +1st and -1st order harmonics. The approach is also extended to 2D DoA estimation by using two orthogonally arranged 1D DoA modulation arrays. The accuracy of 1D DoA estimation is verified through full-wave numerical simulations. Compared to conventional DoA estimation methods, the proposed approach simplifies the computation and hardware complexity, ensuring at the same time estimation accuracy. The proposed method may have potential applications in wireless communications, target recognition, and identification.

In this paper, Root-MUSIC algorithm for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of uncorrelated signals is explored both for uniform linear and uniform circular arrays. The basic problem in Uniform Linear Arrays (ULAs) is Mutual coupling between the individual elements of the antenna array. This problem is reduced in Uniform Circular Arrays (UCAs) because of its symmetric structure. The DOA estimation of uncorrelated signals that have different power levels is simulated on a MATLAB environment. And the noise consider is white across all the array elements. The factors considered for simulation are number of number of snapshots, array elements, radius of circular array, array length, and signal to noise ratio.

Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation in multipath environment is an important issue for passive bistatic radar (PBR) using frequency agile phased array VHF radar as illuminator of opportunity. Under such scenario, the main focus of this paper is to cope with the closely spaced uncorrelated and coherent signals in low signal-to-noise ratio and limited snapshots. Making full use of the characteristics of moduli of eigenvalues, the DOAs of the uncorrelated signals are firstly estimated. Afterwards, their contributions are eliminated by means of spatial difference technique. Finally, in order to improve resolution and accuracy DOA estimation of remaining coherent signals while avoiding the cross-terms effect, a new beamforming solution based iterative adaptive approach (IAA) is proposed to deal with a reconstructed covariance matrix. The proposed method combines the advantages of both spatial difference method and the IAA algorithm while avoiding their shortcomings. Simulation results validate its effectiveness; meanwhile, the good performances of the proposed method in terms of resolution probability, detection probability, and estimation accuracy are demonstrated by comparison with the existing methods.
