Abstract Waste is generated on daily basis through different activities of human beings, which leads to pollution of the environment, which may have serious implications on the health of the individual. Waste generation is also a big problem in schools and universities. To keep that problem in mind study has been conducted on the campus of CCSHAU, Hisar; with the objective to study the type and volume of waste generated in the girl’s hostels. The study estimated the daily waste generation from girl’s hostels and found waste generation rate was high but the waste collection rate was very low because of the improper ratio between the total number of students and sanitary worker. The waste management system in the university girl’s hostels requires not only an estimation of the solid waste but also an understanding of the students’ habits and behaviour towards managing solid waste.

Solid waste management in any large urban city like Lahore requires special disposal measures. In thisregard, Lakhodair landfill and Mehmood booti dump sites collect and handle major bulk of all the solid waste comingfrom ten towns of Lahore, with the city’s waste generation rate of being 0.84kg/capita per day. Spatial expanse of boththe sites was calculated in Arc GIS 10.3 system. The findings clearly showed that the extent of both these dump siteshad increased during 2006-2016 due to an enormous rise in solid waste generation. During 2006, the area of MehmoodBooti dump site and Lakhodair Landfill site was only 15 hectares and 17 hectares respectively. By 2016, this area hadincreased to 32 hectares and 52 hectares respectively. The mapping of these two sites can help in future researchesbased on investigating the disease patterns among people residing around these sites and by determining methaneemissions in the study area.

Bhaktapur Municipality has been performing better to keep the city clean. However, scarcity of space for the land filling of the solid waste and proper segregation of waste at the source has been a hurdle for the Municipality. This paper aims to determine solid waste generation rate and to analyze overall situation of solid waste management of Bhaktapur Municipality. However, the data will not represent the seasonal and occasional variations. Additionally, waste from street-sweeping and large-scale institutional and commercial components of the Municipality has not been assessed. Arkin and Colton (1963) was referred for the sample size determination. Sample of 376 households were taken accordingly. Twenty representative samples each for commercial and institutional establishments were selected, and one each for special cases such as hospital, slaughter house and poultry has been assessed. Municipal household waste generation was found to be 0.093kg per capita per day which was chiefly composed of 77% organic, 18% plastic and 3% paper. Organic waste has been a major waste for institutions such as schools whereas at governmental and public offices, paper is the predominantly generated waste. Among commercial establishments, shops and restaurants mostly generate organic waste and that for departmental stores has been paper. Though collection system was found to be satisfactory, treatment and final disposal have been unsustainable. Available treatment facilities have been shut down whereas other infrastructural components have been lacking.

Lae city is the capital of the Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea. It is the main land transport corridor, the country's main industrial hub and largest cargo port. As a result of the urbanization and industrialization process, more people had migrated to Lae city for better opportunities. These activities contributed to the generation of a considerable amount of solid waste that has become a real concern. The present research aims to understand the existing practices of Solid Waste Management, to estimate per capita waste generation rate and composition of waste, to identify the issues and challenges faced in this regard and suggest methods for improvement. All wastes from the city are discarded at the Second Seventh Landfill (SSL) open dump site, located about 10 to 12 kilometers drive away from the city, causing enormous pollution to the surrounding environment. The per capita waste generation rate witnessed was 0.312 kg per capita per day with a composition of 66% organic waste, 22% recyclable, and 12% non-recyclable materials. It was found that ineffective legislation, lack of law enforcement were the challenges faced by the Lae city council. Rehabilitation of SSL or the construction of a new sanitary land fill should be recommended for effective management.

This study try to investigate rates of generation, of municipal solid waste (MSW) in different constituencies of Jimeta-Yola, and examine the strategies use for solid waste management in the metropolis., Over the recent times Jimeta-Yola has witness an influx of population due to the increased in urbanisation and this had led to increase in consumption of goods and services with consequence increased in rate of generation (MSW) of municipal solid waste .The research used quantitative research techniques to evaluate data on solid waste generation rates in Jimeta. The findings revealed that the waste generation rate varies according to the constituencies ranging. Between, 0.42- 0.78/capita/days cutting across low, medium and high density wards. The analysis of waste management profile in the study area shows, there is inadequate management of municipal solid waste in the metropolis. This paper implies evaluation of the generation rates  of municipal solid wastes (MSW) as the basic tool in planning for improve management of solid waste in the Metropolis, with balancing the aim of privatizing of solid waste management,  sustainability in service coverage  and recycling the solid waste into energy generation.


Management of solid waste is a major challenge for most of the urban local bodies in developing countries primarily due to the rising urban population and per capita waste generation rate. Improper management of municipal solid waste leads to repulsive condition of streets and spreading of diseases. The present study is an attempt to evaluate the user satisfaction on the performance of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) with regard to solid waste management. The findings of the study are going to be useful to the urban local bodies and GVMC in particular to identify the performance gaps and to initiate measures for further improvement.

Abstract Solid waste management is one of the most environmentally challenging issues in Kosovo. Still there is not full coverage with waste collection service, there are a lot of illegal dumpsites, very few recycling initiatives and so on. In the study, we have investigated waste generation per day, solid waste characterization and recycling potential in two municipalities of Kosovo – Decan and Junik. The data were collected during 10 days in different locations in order to cover the whole territory of both municipalities. Both municipalities generate almost the same amount of waste per capita/kg/day, have very similar waste characterization when half of the waste is biodegradable. Only by selling recycling type of waste to waste treatment companies both of the municipalities generate incomes that can be used to improve waste management in their territory. So, as far as these municipalities start with waste separation, better waste management will be within their territory.

Solid Waste genartion is amount of wastes generated by a given source or category of. Sources per day in weight or volume. Data of waste generation is necessary in design of solid waste management system. For that purpose, a research about waste generation will be performed. The analysis is focused to office solid waste, base on SNI 19-3964-1994 for 8 days. Based on waste collection, the sourses of office solid waste are working place, Canteen, and yard. Effective solid waste management strategies are recognized as efforts to achieve campus sustainability. The university campus is currently considered the center of various activities involving students, lecturers, staff, and other parties contributing to the consumption pattern of energy, water, and other resources. This study aims to estimate the quantity and compositions of waste generated on the Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) campus, identify the causes of waste generation, evaluate the relationships between variables through statistical analysis, and recommend possible strategies to reduce solid waste generation. The results show that the simultaneous contribution of the student-gender ratio, student awareness level, administrative staff background, and green space amounted to 67.7% of the waste generation at UNDIP. Therefore, these four factors need to be a concern for campus authorities in their efforts to handle campus waste. Student awareness in particular was determined to be the only factor that significantly affects solid waste generation. UNDIP may implement proper environmental education through sustainability courses in each faculty to reduce solid waste in higher education institutions since it has the most significant impact. Outcomes of this study could be used as a reference to develop sustainable campus strategies, recycling plans, and comprehensive waste management in higher education.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui timbulan dan komposisi sampah kemudian merencanakan pengelolaan sampah terpadu berupa pewadahan dan pengumpulan sampah serta pengolahan sampah menggunakan Material Rocovery Facility (MRF) di Perumahan Kota Citra Graha. Untuk menentukan pengelolaan sampah terpadu yang tepat dilakukan pengambilan dan pengukuran contoh timbulan dan komposisi sampah berdasarkan Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 19-3964-1995. Dari hasil pengambilan dan pengukuran contoh ini diperoleh besarnya timbulan sampah yaitu 2,27 liter/orang/hari dan 0,361 kilogram/orang/hari yang terdiri dari 71,75 % sampah basah, 18,64 % sampah kering dan 9,61 % residu. Sistem pewadahan sampah yang direncanakan adalah pewadahan semi tetap sistem terpisah dengan pola pewadahan individual. Sedangkan desain alat pengumpulan sampah berupa gerobak motor dengan pemisahan antara sampah basah dan sampah kering.Material Recovery Facility(MRF) yang direncanakan terdiri dari lahan pemilahan, lahan penampungan sampah organik, lahan pencampuran sampah dengan inokulan (biostater), lahan pencacah organik, lahan pengomposan, lahan pematangan, lahan pengayakan dan pengemasan kompos, lahan penampungan lindi, gudang barang sortir, gudang kompos, kantor administrasi, area parkir gerobak motor dan area kontainer. Kata Kunci: Perumahan Kota Citra Graha, pewadahan sampah, pengumpulan sampah, Material Recovery FacilityThe objective of the research was to know solid waste generation and composition then to design integrated solid waste management in the form of solid waste lug, collection and treatment using Material Rocovery Facility (MRF) in Housing Kota Citra Graha. To determine the appropriate integrated solid waste management, conducted retrieval and measurement examples of solid waste generation and composition by Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 19-3964-1995. From the results of this sample taking and measuring the quantity of solid waste generated that is 2.27 liters / person / day and 0.361 kg / person / day consisting of 71.75% wet solid waste and dry solid waste 18.64% and 9.61% residue. The system is planned solid waste lug semi remain separate systems with individual lug pattern. While solid waste collection tool design in the form of motor carts with trash separation between wet and dry solid waste. Material Recovery Facility (MRF) which is planned to consist of area for sorting, organic waste collection, mixing solid waste with inoculant (biostater), organic solid waste enumerators, composting, maturation, sieving and compostable packaging, leacheate shelter, sorting goods warehouse, compost warehouse, office administration, motor carts parking and container. Key words: Housing Kota Citra Graha, solid waste lug, solid waste collection, Material Recovery Facility
