The tracking of public spending on education has gradually become a fashionable practice because of the general view that public expenditure may not reach the publicly run schools due to leakages triggered by corruption, mismanagement and weak monitoring mechanisms. This has increased the fear that the expenditure on primary education might not translate into improved learning. Consequently, this research tracked the flow of instructional materials from the Federal Government Agency through the State Government Agency and the Local Government Agency to the primary school level, assessed the efficiency of public spending and determined the location and scale of anomaly by adopting Public Expenditure Tracking Survey (PETS) to address issues of public accountability in the management of the Universal Basic Education funds in Oyo state. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study using the quantitative and qualitative multi-angular data collection strategy which blended primary survey-based data with secondary information from documentary sources. The population of the study consisted of all seventy four (74) primary schools in Ibadan North Local Government area of Oyo State, Nigeria. The results indicated a significant evidence of resource leakage, existence of lobbying, hoarding of textbooks by some schools and lack of information to the stakeholders on funds released and allocation to schools. Based on the findings, the study recommended that necessary information on public allocations be made readily available to all stakeholders and that policy reforms be made to improve and enforce public accountability in the process of basic education delivery especially in Oyo State, Nigeria.

The purpose of the study is to find out the effects of school location and teachers’ quality on students performance in Business Studies Examination in public secondary schools in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State Nigeria. Four research questions guided the study, and the expost facto research design was used for the study. The population of the study was 2579 students that sat for Business Studies in the Basic Education Certificate Examination in public secondary schools in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State for 2016/2017 Academic Session. No sampling was done population was used as sample for the study, as well, no instrument was develop for data collection, data were collected on request from Ministry of Primary and Basic Education, Sapele Field Office. Data collected were analysed using simple frequency count and percentage for the research questions. The results show that location does not have significant effects on students’ performance. Also, the findings revealed that qualification of teacher has significant effects on students’ performance. Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that school location does not have significant effects on students’ performance in Business Studies examination in secondary schools in Delta State. As well, teachers’ qualification has significant effects on students’ performance in Business Studies examination in secondary schools in Delta State. Hence, it was recommended amongst others that Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education should employ qualified teachers to teach Business Studies in secondary schools in Delta State.

Background: The hawking of wares by children has been a serious issue confronting the Nigerian society. Children hawk in some of the most horrible conditions conceivable, where they face a serious risk of injury, chronic illness, kidnapping, rape or death. Objective: The focus of this study was to assess the perceived effects of street hawking on the well-being of children in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. Methods: The population of this study consists of parents of the street hawkers in Anyigba while cross-sectional survey design was used through the purposive sampling technique to choose the sample size of one hundred and sixty-two (162) respondents. The validated structured questionnaire and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) served as the instruments for the data collection respectively. The hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square at a predetermined 0.05 level of significance. The quantitative data were analysed with the aid of the SPSS (version 20). Results: The results indicated among others that street hawking had significant social implications and physical consequences on children's moral behaviour as well as health status in the study area. Conclusion: The study, therefore, concluded that the government of Kogi State should carry out an enlightenment campaign through the media and religious institutions on the negative consequences of street hawking are recommended as panacea. Also, the child right act instrument and its implementation should be strengthened in order to curb street hawking in the study area.

Background: Cervical cancer is the 2nd commonest cancer among women worldwide and the most common cancer among women in developing countries like Nigeria. Though preventable by screening for premalignant and early cervical lesions, this is predicated on the knowledge and practice of a cervical screening. Objective: To assess the knowledge and practice of cervical cancer screening among women in Orlu, Local Government Area(LGA) Imo State, Nigeria. Materials & Methods: A community based cross-sectional study with the use of 502 interviewer – administered questionnaires was conducted among women in Orlu LGA of Imo State. All the women in the communities attending the annual August Meeting who consented were recruited for this study. Results: The study showed that the mean age of the respondents was 42±2.8years. Furthermore, 82.3% of respondents attained postsecondary school educational level, 61.8% & 21.1% were multiparous and grand multiparous respectively. Also, 80.5% of respondents have heard about cervical cancer screening. Majority (67.5%) of these respondents heard it from health care providers. There was a positive statistically significant relationship between educational status and the likelihood of having knowledge of cervical cancer screening, (p< 0.01). The level of practice of cervical cancer screening was very low among the respondents(13.5%).Though majority of the respondents have high level of educational attainment this did not reflect their practice of cervical cancer screening. Conclusion: There was high knowledge of cervical cancer and cervical screening modalities among women in Orlu but their practice of cervical cancer screening was very low. There is an urgent need to educate and encourage women on the benefits of cervical cancer screening. Key words: cervical cancer, knowledge, Practice, Orlu women, Screening.
