Dalam dunia pendidikan, orangtua merupakan partner guru di sekolah. Mereka memiliki peran untuk memfasilitasi learning dan berbagai aspek perkembangan siswa. Sebagian besar orangtua belum pernah belajar tentang bagaimana mereka dapat memfasilitasi anak-anaknya belajar. Belajar bukan sekedar belajar secara akademik, dengan mengajarkan Matematika, Biologi, Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial, dan sebagainya, namun terlebih penting lagi pagi anak-anak yang berada pada usia dini dan Sekolah dasar untuk mengetahui berbagai keterampilan dasar Learning yang akan menolong anak-anak mengembangkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan belajarnya pada usia yang lebih besar atau pada tingkat pendidikan yang lebih tinggi. Terdapat cukup banyak kasus mengindikasikan bahwa siswa PAUD, SD, SMP bahkan SMA mengalami hambatan dalam belajar. Bentuk-bentuk hambatan dalam belajar ini seperti rentang perhatian yang pendek, kesulitan konsentrasi, sulit mengingat materi yang disampaikan guru, bahkan sulit memahami instruksi guru dan orangtua. Pendekatan yang terbukti efektif untuk diterapkan dalam mengembangkan kemampuan belajar dasar (basic learning ability) siswa, yaitu menggunakan pendekatan aktivitas gerak. Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) dalam bentuk psikoedukasi ini diberikan kepada para orangtua siswa di Sekolah Klasikal Terang Nusantar dan PUSPA (Pusat Pengembangan Anak) Terang Nusantara di Bandung. Melalui topik bahasan yang diberikan berharap orangtua dapat mengajak anak-anaknya bergerak dan melakukan permainan edukatif yang dapat meletakkan dasar-dasar/ fondasi yang kuat bagi perkembangan kemampuan belajar anak-anak mereka. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan melalui metode survei menunjukkan respon yang positif dari orangtua, demikian pula dengan hasil evaluasi berdasarkan pengetahuan dan sikap orang tua untuk mengaplikasikan materi yang dipelajari. Psikoedukasi ini dapat dilakukan pada orangtua siswa di sekolah lainnya.

It has become increasingly clear that a larger brain can confer cognitive benefits. Yet not all of the numerous aspects of cognition seem to be affected by brain size. Recent evidence suggests that some more basic forms of cognition, for instance colour vision, are not influenced by brain size. We therefore hypothesize that a larger brain is especially beneficial for distinct and gradually more complex aspects of cognition. To test this hypothesis, we assessed the performance of brain size selected female guppies ( Poecilia reticulata ) in two distinct aspects of cognition that differ in cognitive complexity. In a standard reversal-learning test we first investigated basic learning ability with a colour discrimination test, then reversed the reward contingency to specifically test for cognitive flexibility. We found that large-brained females outperformed small-brained females in the reversed-learning part of the test but not in the colour discrimination part of the test. Large-brained individuals are hence cognitively more flexible, which probably yields fitness benefits, as they may adapt more quickly to social and/or ecological cognitive challenges. Our results also suggest that a larger brain becomes especially advantageous with increasing cognitive complexity. These findings corroborate the significance of brain size for cognitive evolution.

This study suggests practical measures to colleges and universities in plight of declining number of students. We collected and inquired into specific factors that affect learning persistence. The result of analysis on those factors affecting learning persistence proposes learning efficacy, academic major satisfaction, and school satisfaction as statistically significant ones.The measures to maintain attending ratio and reduce dropouts rates based on the result above can be suggested as follows. First, the precondition is to select students with basic learning ability to follow major courses.Second, to maintain learning, it is more important than any others that the enrolled students are given in each school customized approaches to majors that have stress on correlation with individuals’ grades for satisfaction found in major courses and motivation to focus on learning by highlighting strong points of the majors.Last, it will be helpful to carry out image-making or public promotion activities that may encourage pride in their schools. To add, expansion of welfare programs or amenities for students are considered to help increase students’ will to keep learning.
