To ensure the structural safety and reliability of coal mine rescue capsule in disastrous surroundings after gas explosion, in this paper, the thermomechanical coupling effect on a certain structure subjected to gas explosion was analyzed, and then a novel rescue capsule with a combination of radius and square features was designed according to the underground surroundings and relevant regulations on mine rescue devices. Foremost, the coupling mechanism of thermal-fluid-solid interaction between gas explosion shock wave and rescue capsule and the thermal dynamic response of the capsule subjected to explosion load of gas/air mixture was investigated and revealed by employing LS-DYNA. The variation laws and characteristics of stress field, displacement field, and temperature field of the capsule were analyzed based on the simulation results. Results show that the structural safety, tightness, and reliability of the capsule meet the requirements of the national safety regulations. The design method presented in this work provides a new thought for design of coal mine rescue capsule.

Chemical explosion may occur in urea reactor. The explosion load and the dynamic response of the multilayer structure are analyzed. Based on Russel model, the maximum explosion loads were calculated by thermodynamic methods. Dynamic response was simulated by Ls-dyna software. The result shows that the explosion pressure is smaller than the burst pressure; the stress distribution along the radial direction and the effective stress history are obtained and they both show some new features. The results may offer some reference significance for similar structure strength design and safe protection.

Most engineering structures are composed of basic components such as plates, shells, and beams, and their dynamic characteristics under explosion load determine the impact resistance of the structure. In this paper, a three-dimensional composite steel structure was designed using a beam, plate, and other basic elements to study its mechanical behavior under explosion load. Subsequently, experiments on the composite steel structure under explosion load were carried out to study its mechanical behavior, and the failure mode and deformation data of the composite steel structure were obtained, which provided important experimental data regarding the dynamic response and mechanical behavior of the composite steel structure under explosion load. Then, we independently developed a parallel program with the coupled calculation method to solve the numerical simulation of the dynamic response and failure process of the composite steel structure under explosion load. This program adopts the Euler method as a whole, and Lagrange particles are used for materials that need to be accurately tracked. The numerical calculation results are in good agreement with the experimental data, indicating that the developed parallel program can effectively deal with the large deformation problems of multi-medium materials and the numerical simulation of the complex engineering structure failures subjected to the strong impact load.

The gas is one of the most important factors which endanger the security of the mining production. Most of serious accidents are the gas explosion accidents in coal mine. By investigating the damage situations of the gas explosion accidents and the related material, finding out why these incidents happen is an important way to prevent or reduce the gas explosion accidents. Based on the occurred gas explosion accidents, the author use the FLUENT software to simulate the process of gas explosion and get the variation law of various air current parameters is obtained in gas explosion. The explosion causes and development course are discussed. Compared with the explosion parameters collected on scene of accident, it provides comprehensive scientific basis for the accident investigation. The conclusion is helpful to adopt suitable measures to prevent the gas explosion.

One of the main reasons for coal mine fire is spontaneous combustion of residual coal in gob. As the difference of compaction degree of coal and rock, the underground gob can be considered as a porous medium and divided into “three zones” in accordance with the criteria. The “three zones” are “heat dissipation zone”, “oxidation zone” and “choking zone”, respectively. Temperature programming experiments are taken and numerical simulation with obtained experimental data is utilized to analyze the distribution of “three zones” in this paper. Different width and depth of “oxidation zone” are obtained when the inlet air velocity is changed. As the nitrogen injection has inhibition effect on spontaneous combustion of residual coal in gob, nitrogen is injected into the gob. The widths of “oxidation zone” are compared before and after nitrogen injection. And ultimately the optimum location and volume of nitrogen injection are found out.

On February 4, 1970, in the Fouquières-lès-Lens coal mine in northern France, sixteen miners were killed in a gas explosion (“firedamp,” grisou in French). This was an accident like many others before it, yet with a relatively high number of fatalities. The public prosecutor concluded, as usual, that there was no case against the publicly owned mine. No investigation was to be carried out. The accident had been the work of fate, of bad luck.
