This study presents a method to determine power consumption pattern for several types of consumers in Sarawak, Malaysia. The power consumption data for consumers has been recorded using EDMI Mk.6 Genius polyphase electronic (E3) meters installed at their premises. The multistage cluster sampling is used to design the sample size to determine the sufficient amount of meters required. The data obtained from the meters has been analysed to obtain the pattern of power consumption for different types of consumers. This power consumption pattern has been applied to determine load factor, diversity factor for the calculation of After Diversity Maximum Demand (ADMD). ADMD is also used to determine the optimal amount of load, distribution transformer size and 11kV cable size. Temperature sensitivity analysis related to the demand has been investigated as well. It is found that power consumption pattern model is beneficial in finding the total electrical load, distribution transformer size and 11kV cable size needed by the consumers. Thus through this study the load characteristics had been determined to support utility operation and planning efficiently.

Power quality disturbance (PQD) is an important issue in electrical distribution systems that needs to be detected promptly and identified to prevent the degradation of system reliability. This work proposes a PQD classification using a novel algorithm, comprised of the artificial bee colony (ABC) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms, called “adaptive ABC-PSO” as the feature selection algorithm. The proposed adaptive technique is applied to a combination of ABC and PSO algorithms, and then used as the feature selection algorithm. A discrete wavelet transform is used as the feature extraction method, and a probabilistic neural network is used as the classifier. We found that the highest classification accuracy (99.31%) could be achieved through nine optimally selected features out of all 72 extracted features. Moreover, the proposed PQD classification system demonstrated high performance in a noisy environment, as well as the real distribution system. When comparing the presented PQD classification system’s performance to previous studies, PQD classification accuracy using adaptive ABC-PSO as the optimal feature selection algorithm is considered to be at a high-range scale; therefore, the adaptive ABC-PSO algorithm can be used to classify the PQD in a practical electrical distribution system.

Among the basic needs of life, food possesses ahead of everyone else as it nourishes us and able to stand which leads further activity. Tamil Nadu state is self-sufficient in food production and Nutrient availability assessment also shows the same but the consumption pattern shows inverse pattern to availability because consumption is directly related with income, education, taste and preference, cultural, ethical and etc. Food consumption patterns of rural Tamil Nadu shows that high demand of Public Distribution System (PDS) observed in earlier and gradually decreased over year. Vitamin Thiamine is coming under severe inequality category in rural areas of Tamil Nadu for both 61st and 68 rounds. Goal programming was effectively optimised the nutrient requirement with least cost and optimised to higher level of nutrient status.
