Aims and objective of the study is to find ABO blood group association with secretor status in peptic ulcer disease patients. ABO blood grouping by direct agglutination test and secretor status by agglutination inhibition test. 50 controls and 50 endoscopically diagnosed PUD patients were selected. Blood group O is associated with duodenal ulcer but no association with secretor status was found.

Aims and objective of the study is to find ABO and Rh blood groups association with secretor status in patients with hypertension. ABO and Rh blood grouping was done by direct agglutination test and secretor status by agglutination inhibition test. 50 controls and 50 hypertensive patients were selected. No association of ABO and Rh blood group with secretor status was found in patients with hypertension.

Background: Epidemiological studies on peptic ulcer disease (PUD) have shown a recent decrease in hospital admissions in Western countries. Objective: This paper aimed to study the current status and risk factors of PUD in a Nigerian metropolis. Methods: A cross-sectional study of symptomatic patients at upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy diagnosed with PUD from February 2014 to September 2019 at a referral endoscopy facility in Port Harcourt, Niger delta region of Nigeria. The variables studied included demographics, symptoms and duration, blood group, chronic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) use, smoking, endoscopic and histology findings. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 20. Results: A total of 434 upper GI endoscopies were performed during the study period with thirty-one diagnosis of PUD made. The mean age of gastric ulcer (GU) and duodenal ulcer (DU) cases were 54.4 ± 20.2yrs and 48.1 ± 14.5yrs respectively (p = 0.367). GU to DU ratio was 1.4:1. H. pylori infection, chronic NSAID use and blood group O were seen in 7(22.5%), 8(25.8%) and 18(72.0%) respectively. Major indication in 21(67.7%) cases was gastrointestinal bleeding. Conclusion: There is a low diagnostic rate of PUD (6.7%) with pre-pyloric antral gastric ulcers as most common type and multifactorial aetiology. Keywords: Gastric ulcer; duodenal ulcer; endoscopy.

The antigen gene of ABO blood group system, called ABO, is located on human chromosome 9, with a total length of 19.5 kb. It is the first blood group system found by human beings.[1] ABO blood group subtypes are formed by ABO genovariation, i.e., gene A variation for A subtype, gene B variation for B subtype and gene O variation for new O alleles. ABO subtypes contain A3, Ax, Ael, Aw, Am, B3, Bx, Bel, Bw, cis-AB, B (A). Generally, an individual with AB blood group has an A allele on one chromosome, with B allele on its paired chromosome. This phenomenon is called trans-AB. However, cis-AB is a unique ABO phenotype that A and B alleles are located on the same chromosome, so that it can be inherited by the next generation.[2] This special mode of inheritance often causes a discrepancy of ABO blood grouping and then reduces the effectiveness and safety of blood transfusion.Therefore, to accurately identify the blood group of cis-AB is a precondition for  the safety of blood transfusion.[3] The serological and genotyping analysis on a case of cis-AB patient in our hospital is reported as follows.
