The aim of this study was to develop an automatic system based on selected parameters collected from the biological process to control a fluidized-bed reactor. In the first part of this study, identification of parameters sensitive to overloads was carried out with vinasses as wastewater. From these results, three parameters, considered as the most realistic for the monitoring of the reactor, were selected: pH in the liquid phase, the biogas production and its concentration of dihydrogen. These were used to develop an algorithm based on expert system principle. This automatic control system calculated the flow rate of the feeding pump in order to adjust continuously the load applied to the reactor. The system was used to monitor and control several kinds of overload in an anaerobic fluidized bed reactor, of laboratory and pilot scales. The strategy used was able to operate automatically the digesters.

The start-up procedure of a laboratory fluidized-bed was monitored by an automatic control system. Twenty six days were necessary to increase the load from 1 to 35 kg COD/m3.d. The system took into account the pH of the liquid phase, the production of gas, and the concentration of hydrogen in the gas phase. These parameters were measured by on-line sensors. According to variations of these parameters, algorithm based on a principle very close to an expert system adjusted the flow-rate of the feeding pump. The automatic control system was tested in the following situations: perturbations in the process generated by large pH variations (± 0.2 to 0.7 pH unit) and organic overloads (from 50 to 100 kg COD/m3.d). After 44 hours of overloading, CH4 and CO2 concentrations in the gas phase were very useful to detect the deviation of the reactor.

This paper takes the automatic control system of controllable pitch propeller in a multipurpose ocean tug as an example to describe the application of the S7-200 series PLC in the control system of 4500 horse power controllable pitch propeller in detail. The principle of control system is addressed, as well as the hardware configuration, the design idea of the main software and control process. The system shows high reliability, accuracy and good control performance in practical in practical running.

In this paper, a method for unknown input estimation in stochastic system is presented. A key problem in bioprocess systems is the absence, in some cases, of reliable on-line measurements for real time monitoring applications. In this paper, a software sensor for an anaerobic digester is presented. Unmeasured components of the influent are estimated from available on-line measurements. Unknown input Kalman filter is discussed to estimate the state and unknown input of the process. First, the theory of unknown inputs optimal filtering in the stochastic case is exposed and a design procedure is proposed. The observer is applied to an anaerobic fluidized bed reactor to estimate the variations in Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) concentration and experimental results are presented.

By the design of the visualization system of the LPG shuttle kiln, the friendly man-machine interface is achieved, which is helpful for the change, expansion and upgrade of the system. It is studied that the general schemes of the visualization automatic control system of the LPG shuttle kiln in this article. The choice of the hardware devices, especially the system nucleus units including temperature transducer, A/D or D/A intelligent module, RS232/485 converter, relay, actuator, etc, and the connection and control strategy of the hardware of the control system, is analyzed emphatically. A/D or D/A intelligence module, RS232/485 converter, relay, actuator, the joint and control strategy of the hardware of the control system, etc. With the widely application of the intelligence control system, the foreground of the visualization system of the shuttle kiln will be better and better.

The paper provides a control system of the cascade of centrifugal extractors. This system is based on a conventional PID controller with elements of neuro-fuzzy logic for on-line tuning system. Neural networks used with fuzzy logic in an automatic control system allowed minimizing the negative impacts of human factor on the purification processes of uranium concentrates. The current system ensures the advanced control of a cascade and stabilization of the uranium concentration at the permissible industrial levels.
