The Aviation Group of the Ministry of Technology (formerly the Ministry of Aviation) is responsible for spending a large part of the country's defence budget, both in research and development on the one hand and production or procurement on the other. In addition, it has responsibilities in many non-defence fields, mainly, but not exclusively, in aerospace.Few developments have been carried out entirely within the Ministry's own Establishments; almost all have required continuous co-operation between the Ministry and Industry. In the past the methods of management and collaboration and the relative responsibilities of the Ministry and Industry have varied with time, with the type of equipment to be developed, with the size of the development project and so on. But over the past ten years there has been a growing awareness of the need to put some system into the complex business of translating a requirement into a specification and a specification into a product within reasonable bounds of time and cost.

Abstract A review of the literature and the state-of-the-art in research and development of miniature heat exchangers is presented in this paper. The authors provide a discussion of what makes the micro- and meso-scales important, highlight the design constraints and challenges that surface when miniaturizing a heat exchanger, and outline and discuss the outstanding practical and scientific issues in this area. Finally, the most recent advances in manufacturing processes and application of these miniature heat exchangers are covered in this article.

Currently, safety analyses mostly rely on codes which solve both the neutronics and the thermal-hydraulics with assembly-wise nodes resolution as multiphysics heterogeneous transport solvers are still too time and memory expensive. The pin-by-pin homogenized codes can be seen as a bridge between the heterogeneous codes and the traditional nodal assembly-wise calculations. In this work, the pin-by-pin simplified transport solver Tortin has been coupled with a sub-channel code COBRA-TF. The verification of the 3D solver of Tortin is presented at first, showing very good agreement in terms of axial and radial power profile with the Monte Carlo code SERPENT for a small minicore and with the state-of-the-art nodal code SIMULATE5 for a quarter core without feedback. Then the results of Tortin+COBRA-TF are compared with SIMULATE5 for one assembly problem with feedback. The axial profiles of power and moderator temperature show good agreement, while the fuel temperature differ by up to 40 K. This is caused mainly by different gap and fuel conductance parameters used in COBRA-TF and in SIMULATE5.

Efforts in Grid Computing, both in academia and industry, continue to grow rapidly worldwide for research, scientific and commercial purposes. Building a commanding position in Grid computing is crucial for India. The major Indian National Grid Computing initiative is GARUDA. Other major efforts include the BIOGRID and VISHWA. Several Indian IT companies too are investing a lot into the research and development of grid computing technology. Though grid computing is presently at a fairly nascent stage, it is seen as a cutting edge technology. This chapter presents the state-of-the-art of grid computing technology and the India’s efforts in developing this emerging technology.

The digital profile of a person has become one of the tradable digital commodities over the Internet. Identity management has gained increasing attention from both enterprises and government organisations, in terms of security, privacy, and trust. A considerable number of theories and techniques have been developed to deal with identity management issues using biometric multimodal approaches. In this chapter, the authors review, assess, and consolidate the research and development activities of contemporary biometric and non-biometric identity management in 21 privately and publicly funded organisations. Furthermore, they develop a taxonomy to characterise and classify these identity management frameworks into two categories: processes and technologies. The authors then study these frameworks by systematically reviewing the whole lifecycle of an identity management framework, including actors, roles, security, privacy, trust, interoperability, and federation. The goal is to provide readers with a comprehensive picture of the state of the art of the existing identity management frameworks that utilise biometric and non-biometric technologies with the aim to highlight the contemporary issues and progress in this area of identity management.

The general objective of this article is to establish "state of the art" on the Programa de Apoio à Pesquisa em Empresas (PAPPE) and TECNOVA. These programs are focused on financing innovation in the modality of Economic Subvention (ES), which means the provision of public resources directly to companies for the development of Research and Development (R&D) activities. For this reason, the Capes Dissertation and Thesis Bank was used. The main results showed that the theme is of interest to researchers from north to south of the country, with emphasis on the Southeast, Northeast and South regions. Applied Social Sciences, Engineering III and Multidisciplinary were the areas of Knowledge that most sought to study ES. The importance of this type of financing for the performance of the beneficiary companies, the business maturity for the success of the projects and the relevance of the program to expand the cooperation of companies with the university were observed in the selected studies. The analysis of the studies carried out makes it possible to recommend the continuity and strengthening of the financing policy for innovative activities in the ES modality in the Brazilian states.
